In that scene I was in the theater l literally calculating how long would it take. After more than 1 minute I started to think it wouldn’t (I had estimated 30 sec) and then it hit me so hard.
In "American Promethius", the novel Nolan based the movie on, its described that Feynman (Jack Quaid's character) heard the boom from the blast a full minute and a half after the detonation. He was the furthest away from the site. This is where he got the timing from. I highly recommend reading that novel though
I saw it in V-Max (which is just i-Max in Australia) and even though I knew the explosion sound was coming and that it was gonna be loud.... but HOLY CRAP i jumped outta my skin when it hit. Incredible sound design
They did the sound so good that they forgot to do the same for the explosion, looks like a Michael bay explosion with sparks and all of that, really sad
0:40 was waiting for the shockwave to pass Did feel it, and it was happy. Then you think about it being used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki Regardless of your opinion on the bombings, I think we can all agree that it was a world changing event
Yes, I think the scene went over some people’s heads. The whole IMAX marketing kinda subverts just how dark that scene really is and people just go in for the spectacle of a big boom.
Barbie was a great movie but in terms of sound design it was pretty standard. I was trying to find an angle for it but aside from a good soundtrack, not much to go on!
