Oregairu, in the first look, feels like a generic rom-com, but is indeed a complex study of feelings and phycology. One of the best anime I have seen! Great essay man!
It's kinda funny actually, that a story that seems generic is actually so deep bellow that surface, while the story itself talks about how things are not what they seem in the surface.
Thank you for this video, the timing of it all is crazy. I’m still in the process of trying it love myself fully despite hiding behind a mask for most of my relationships in life, I pushed people away because I feared being hurt & not wanting to hurt others even though they’re gonna be hurt regardless of my actions. I really grew fond of hachiman & easily become one of my favorite MC’s. Oregairu will always have a special place in my heart, whoever is reading this, may we all find ways to find that genuine thing & achieve happiness.
Thank you so much for sharing your feelings, not only about the anime but yourself as well. I often found myself reflecting on my high school years while watching this anime, it left me with a bittersweet sense of self depreciation and regret. I never really fit into any groups so I isolated myself from everyone and minded my own business and would often times just sleep as soon as I finished my work which ended up getting me expelled two months before graduation even though I had good enough grades. I regret not ever trying to branch out or talk to anyone. I ostracized myself even though I had plenty of opportunities to get into groups but never had the confidence or will to even take the risk. I was always afraid of rejection even though I had never experienced it. I feel so foolish for it now but I guess that was all part of me growing as a person. I've always been a loner by choice and I can't really say that I would want it any other way but I can't be certain, I feel too anxious when in crowds and can only socialize with one or two people in a day without feeling exhausted. Isn't it ironic that I still want interactions but can't stand being around people weather it's online or in person? I feel like such a complicated person and don't want to burden others with my issues. This anime truly did help me to better understand myself and words will never express how grateful I am for it. I truly never expected this show to resonate so deeply with such an unassuming title but I'm glad that I found it
As someone who finds it hard to maintain relationships and feel empathy towards friends/family, I understand how it feels to failing to understand what my place in society is. Jumping from hobby to hobby and hyperfixating on them until i grow tired of it, just to make me feel like life is meaningful. I'm still in this stage and looking for a way to break out of this cycle. i really appreciate this video and the effort it took to turn your feelings into words. thanks for trying to put your own feelings onto paper.

I had trouble making friends for my entire life. Around 17, I started putting myself out there more and got friends, but over time these interactions got less satisfying for me. I don’t think I saw this as a problem, but instead that it just was the way it was. I first watched Oregairu a long time ago and enjoyed it but it didn’t stick with me, for whatever reason it didn’t click. When season 3 came out I rewatched the entire show, and that made me realize why I was dissatisfied with my social interactions. I could finally put the concept of genuineness into words. Since then I’ve been aware of that and make an effort to be more genuine with others, in the hope of forming intimate close relationships that I can enjoy with someone else. I have not figured out how exactly to go about doing this, but I now have a clear goal in mind thanks to Oregairu. It feels good to know someone else was impacted by this show as much as I was, it felt life changing for me. I wish you the best in opening up to others.
I love this anime , my heart felt heavy when it ended and its still hard for me to move on . I don't know when the OVA will be releasing but for now I am ready Oregairu Shin
there's so much i could write about this show and how it's made me felt, how it helped me get over how I used to be, it's an absolutely different experience than I've had watching any other show. Thanks for this video, it's helped put into words many of the feelings i've felt for this show which I've always struggled to do Self-worth is something that I'm still struggling with, and something I think I'll always struggle with, but this show is honestly incredible at depicting what about it is truly important when it comes to finding it and what isn't. I'm not sure if I've truly found that genuine something yet, I think after watching season 3 what I'm most scared about is that I never might. But I hope you find it in the future if you haven't found it yet, I truly believe there are enough people for everyone seeking it to find it.

Tbh this anime has made me think about my possible superficial friendships but the main problem for me is to have more self worth and self acceptance as well as finding it difficult to overcome and deal with these superficial relationships and to find something genuine. I dont even know if I will ever find something genuine but hopefully I do someday, whatever it means and whatever it may be.
Oregairu made me think a lot about how I live my life and view myself. I think at the end of the day, “something genuine” doesn’t mean anything specific. It differs from person to person and between relationships as well. I also think that the harder you look for it, the less likely you are to find it. The genuine things/people/experiences in life will find you.

I’m sure you could tell from the video (thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed) that I found Hachiman one of the most relatable characters in anime. And I think it’s very resonant how he finds his genuine thing - the whole time he is searching, he isolates himself and sees nothing but falsities. Once he found somewhere he felt comfortable, he came to realize his genuine thing was there in front of his eyes and got there without him noticing.

In Hachiman’s case, I believe that in scrutinizing the world while searching for something genuine and keeping himself isolated, he blinded himself to any opportunity to find his genuine thing. It’s true that his perspective of the world is very interesting, raw, and at least somewhat correct - when you’re focused on seeing the negatives in life you can’t see the positives.
@@9LivesDeepDives wow, just wow... So I probably should’ve mentioned that when I first watched this video I hadn’t actually watched Oregairu, and yet it still hit all the way to my core. But coming back to your video after watching season 1&2 this video just hit so much harder, through watching Hachiman and seeing how he lived i can see so much of myself in him it’s scary. He’s like a mirror that I’m scared to face and yet I can’t look away, and hearing your personal view and experiences, man it’s just something else. I am still trying to figure out why exactly I feel/act the way I do and I don’t quite know if it stems from self loathing or something else, but what I do know for sure is that your words and Hachiman’s story will leave a lasting impact on me and are definitely helping me figure it all out. So from the bottom of my heart and with the utmost respect, thank you.

It's heartwarming to hear about the steps we take to think, struggle and agonize over our flaws in order to overcome them. I learned that much and took it to heart watching the series. I haven't paralyzed myself in my youth with anxiety, or at least, whatever facade I put up might have been effective enough to fool even myself. I've grown and with this story and all the meditations by others, I've learned. Regrettably, the knowledge is a little wasted on me because I've already past my youth and have just started as an adult concerning myself with a job and such, but not interpersonal relations. But I'll still take it to heart and can walk a little more confident than before. I'll be a little more prepared for when the time comes. You're words are honest, and I admire that.
In order to truly overcome our flaws, it is important to recognize the ways in which we’ve outwardly struggled to conceal them. Regrettably, most only truly accept this as a fact when they reach adulthood. One’s facade is perhaps the greatest indicator of his most deeply rooted insecurities. All we can do as people as is agonize over them in an attempt to assimilate those feelings, and the greatest hardship is working yourself to the bone to overcome them. I can’t say that I’ve truly become the person I want to be, but trusting the steps I’ve made this far is comforting in its own right. Only now, at 25, can I admit with authenticity that honesty is truly the best policy and the best route to self-acceptance, and eventually to self-love. Growing up I've often tried to take on the lovable idiot personality. I hated who I was for so long and to such a degree that I ended up losing whoever I even was before that. I made friends, sure, but none of them had a single idea who I was. I didn't know who I was. I often felt like a stranger looking at things around me through a one way window mirror and interacted with others using a puppet To some extent I still feel that way, but before I had no idea anyone felt the same way I did. I thought I was the most worthless weird pointless piece of trash on earth. Its not like it was a simple thought though. I've had so many breakdowns in the past where all my bottled up frustrations poured out of me, reminding me of what I was running from. Who I was trying to suppress. It's videos like yours that show me that perhaps I'm not so bad. Maybe it is all in my head. Gives me the hope that maybe someday I'm not the nothingness that my brain tells me I am. And best of all that I'm not alone and some people out there do understand. Thank you for this video. I can tell by your voice it was a bit hard to make. But just talking about things does more than you could ever know

I’ve found it’s really easy to convince yourself that you’re the only person who feels the way you do, and in doing so you dehumanize & devalue yourself. Most people you see, whether happy or sad, successful or just going with the flow, are suffering in their own way and dealing with their own demons. Confronting them instead of running is the difficult choice to make, rather than bottling them up and letting them consume you. I hope you find peace brother!!
randomly popped up on my recommendation, and i had to say good video man, things about becoming an empty husk of a person for the last couple of years is just too relatable, but instead of constantly trying to inject myself to a bunch of friends group, I can only befriend to those who have the same hobby as mine, like anime and games and similar stuff, because thats the only thing i know. I can't talk about sports, arts, academics, etc since i have zero interest in those, and let alone talking about shit like how's your day, If you have a problem sure tell it to me but if its just as usual, i dont care. sounds egoistic as hell but thats just how I am, taking everything for granted. Now that i said that, As for the anime itself, watched it till the end of season 3 after I graduated high school, didnt feel anything, kinda shit honestly. To me how hachiman got that one supportive teacher and the existence of the service club is already a godsend for him, I can totally relate to him being socially awkward and bullying since elementary and going through that phase till high school (atleast no female ever dare to speak to me and i can save myself the pain of them mocking me, until today), but nothing else, maybe its just because i never take those bullying today as a horrifying memory, sure its horrifying as hell at the time it happened and sure enough in the future someone can brought it up again, but at the time that happened, its not relevant anymore, its just happened. Or maybe im just jealous to a fictional character that got laid after his hardwork of accepting his self worth and whatnot since this show is still a romance anime first and foremost, I had never befriend a woman in my life, i do had some memory of me talking to them back at elementary (this is just me coping of the possibility of having childhood friends if i hadnt take everything for granted because they never specifically said that we're friends and i assume that they're just being nice to everyone), but my memory of elementary school mostly fills with me being a crybaby, and at highschool I can remember all of the male from the same year as me but i can't even remember most of the female of my own class since they dont give a shit about me and i dont give a shit about them, I had thought of them hating me but asking my classmate, thats basically the case. That's also the thing about this anime, never in my life i saw someone to be as emotional as the characters in oregairu, i keep screaming at the screen of how unrealistic these people act sometime according to my environment. idk man, i have no hostile motive writing this, im just tired of seeing praising oregairu to godhood or something, sure it is a lot better than most romance comedy out there, but its still romance comedy in the end. I WANT to be depressed and weighted by my shitty decision i make at high school but nope, i wake up in the morning not giving shit about it

I definitely agree that it can seem dramatized at points, but I would also say that romance anime in general tend to oversell the reactions to situations. Personally I view the extreme emotions as a beautiful dichotomy to the way Hachiman pretends to be, and for that reason it meshes beautifully with the theme of facades. People who show less emotion might be feeling them the most. And as a 25 year old anime fan, it definitely makes me remember how it felt to be in high school. Maybe it wasn’t quite as dramatic as anime, but high schoolers and kids in general tend to view everything as bigger than it is. Anyway, thanks for watching!

Hey, just want to say I absolutely love your take, or just takeaway from Oregairu. I'm really small and make bullshit to keep myself off boredom, and Oregairu was a show I picked up on a real whim that hit me on a lot of levels self-isolationism. It won't mean enough, but knowing it's an analogue in even small ways or knowing only a few things struck you in a hurtful but insightful ways, I'm sorry to see. (Using Lost My Pieces to talk about mental health is like my version of reliving the beaches of Normandy, how so very dareth, good sir)

After watching OreGairu, i realized for the first time that I've been neglecting what i really wanted, i was always feeling like i know everything in the world(like a typical cynical teenager) and that i knew everything in reality but i was only blind to the truth, unaccepting of the fact that i can learn towards opening up, ive always been so afraid, i found a part of myself in hikigaya, the part that was always looking for something genuine.
