Super relatable, my IRL friend group that I spent the most time with throughout COVID I slowly started distancing from as they played more League and I got hooked onto osu. Found myself feeling lonely until I met new friends that played osu! as well. Seriously, well done with the video though!! If your “friends” left you just because you stopped playing a certain game, then you weren’t friends to begin with. They were just mutuals with the games you guys played on.
Except for the content side of things, everything in this video relates to me aswell. My friends would play on consoles (PS4, XBOX, etc.) but i would be playing on my PC alone. Still, i found people i enjoy playing with through osu tournaments and such. I don't think quitting osu to play video games you don't like is a good idea, so i did just like you, and stayed on osu. imo, this video represents alot of us in the community, but we still enjoy the game in different ways! I was osu royalty back in the day, that's how good I was. Fast as lightning and with a never failing sense of rhythm. After 12yrs of not playing though, I tried it again and found myself such a slow and clumsy abomination that I almost threw myself through the window. Osu is the most addictive game I have ever played, because you have to maintain your skills coooonstantly. And you've got to clock in an insane amount of hours to get even a little good in the first place. It's video game crack and demands your full attention for you to get god-tier. And once you get there. Man, well you never want to come down. A social life is not an option with osu though. Not a chance.

You're right, it's not easy to find friends when you play non-mainstream games, i experienced this. But friendship can be formed out of alot of things/hobbies, the older you get the more irrelevant gaming in general affect your life. For me, friends who simply ignore or straight up kick you out of the group just because you no longer share similar interest is not your real friend, just "temporary for entertainment friend", i like to call them that. osu is not as popular and it's very rare to find someone really enjoys it in the public, but if you do, it's like you just hit a jackpot and they no doubt will be your great friend cuz they themself also is in your situation. They understand and appreciate this rare relationship more than others. That's all from me, stay safe and keep being yourself, good things will come eventually.

If you're only friends with someone because you play a game together it doesn't make you two very compatible. If you friend stopped playing osu! but talks to you and still invites you to play other games or hang out, then I'd say they're a good friend. had a simillar situation where i started playing the game with my friends but after few months nobody played osu except for me. Was tough not to have anyone to play with or even talk about the game and when i tried they just brushed it off or didnt even reply. Made me play less so i can play more mainstream games to socialize with others even tho i wanted to focus on osu and become tourney player at some point. Luckly things werent like that for long and after few years im here now happy as ever. Seeing how many people had the same experiences lets me know that this is how it be with niche games and what not. Goddamn great video not what I was expecting seeing the title lmao, i just wanna put my short story, idk why but just felt like it especially after watching the ending I went from 'yea this is relatable' at the start to 'yea and this vid is funny' and ultimately to 'I'm feeling really sad right now this is too relatable' at the very end of this vid I can resonate and relate with the many points you put out, I'm a mania player actually but I do dive into all other gamemodes (mainly taiko atm) and I do love many other rhythm games, back to mania though I did find out early on how special osu was and I could and I did make many good friends, something I couldn't really do for so long, I quickly found good friends due to constant multiplayer games and also being involved in tournaments all while improving in skill, slowly I became somewhat of a known and respectable player (well at least in tourney groups and locally). And I experience the exact same thoughts, what if I played a different game and was more sociable? What if I got a different hobby instead? Could I have gotten a part time job by now? How would my teenage life could have been? Despite that I'm glad I stumbled upon this rhythm game world and always wished I did sooner, 6y into my rhythm gaming journey now osumania being my main one, I've played with many people, had great meetups and also played in extremely high lvl tournaments like mwc. While I always do feel like I lost valueble time and things I could have experienced I'm still happy that I chose this path. Nobody will be playing a game forever but when you're playing it do remember to cherish every moment of it, because you'll miss it after you proceed to adulthood and that life. Once again amazing video, hopefully great things will come by for us rhythm gamers who has these similar experiences I used up 20 minutes writing this thing I hope someone reads it 💀

In my opinion, this is why people say you shouldn't get too absorbed into gaming or more like trying to make virtual 'friends'. I know this is really hard for some, especially with the pandemic. I, myself have fallen into this trap because I moved out to another country and as such the only way to communicate with my 10-year friends is via Internet. None of them however even play osu! or share the same passion as I do. This made me feel quite lonely since I couldn't speak French at the time and I wasn't able to make friends, and I didn't really like csgo or val. However, more people have to realise that life is not just Discord and Leah Kate. There's much more to it, and it is your endeavour to find what you want to do. I just focused on getting extremely high grades at school and learning the language. And of course, I still play the game almost on a daily basis for that dopamine :). Just make sure you are on a happy medium, and remember that being alone is not always bad, but you can take advantage of it. Superb video, I liked the editing :p
As someone who had a strong interest in playing Osu, it was difficult to connect with my friend group who preferred to play popular games like Valorant. While I tried to play these games to fit in, I quickly realized that they weren't as enjoyable for me as playing Osu. As a result, I found myself slowly drifting apart from my friend group as we no longer had a shared interest. It was isolating not being able to talk about something I was passionate about and these experiences led me to become more reserved in real life. However, I learned that it's important to be true to yourself and not force yourself to do things that you don't enjoy just to fit in. Instead, I began to seek out like-minded individuals who shared my passion for playing Osu and was able to form new friendships based on our common interest.
This hits really close to home. Like you, I had a friend group that I would play with on a normal basis. We soon drifted apart after I got more into this circle clicker simulator game, while they hopped on the more trendier side of gaming. Even though I may not have the contact with my friends that I had back then, I found other friends with a similar taste and hobbies through osu. I do not regret it one bit. I rarely post in comments but I felt the “me missing out on things because of osu!” altho I put that on human nature seeing more of the bad than the good. As you said I also met same minded people, got to truly enjoy a game for what it is, grind, map (which helped me understanding what putting work into sth you like is) and much more which made me into the person I am today. Imma say it, players who enjoy music usually appreciate music alot more than the general player. It’s how I got into it. I personally played Cytus growing up, realized I loved the way songs are structured and created, and Osu became the next logical step in that journey. The beatmap creators are part of that community, and are huge on music appreciation. Hell, making a map for a song you like is like the pinnacle of appreciating music and expressing yourself artistically
You're right, I used to play osu and it helped me understand music more. I saw how maps were created and then started mapping and I had to listen for every part of the song separately, especially when hitsounding. Now I don't play osu anymore but I play the guitar, and I feel like it's osu on steroids. When I play the guitar I'm literally the one making the song, I've never been as close to music as now. Try playing an instrument I'm almost sure you'd like it

100% the music is definitely the part that made me like osu, as well as the way certain maps are done. Just the feeling of your fingers moving at a nice pace. Plus once you've played it enough you can just zone out to the music and the sounds of the tapping on the keyboard

So relatable. During quarantine my friend group mostly played Roblox games but for some reason one of us started playing osu! actively again and we all hopped ship. Fast forward a few months and now I'm the only one that plays actively but they're still playing Roblox games. I enjoy talking to them but a lot of the time I'm in a Discord call with them and I'm completely silent clicking away at circles. I don't think I regret choosing osu! as my main game but sometimes it is really frustrating trying to talk to people about what games I play. No one knows about osu! and most people who do don't think much of the game. Most of the time when people ask me what games I play I just respond with "rhythm games." I really hope I can one day find a group of friends who also enjoy osu! as much as I do because it's 100% the game I love the most.
i relate heavy to the distancing of friends based on the games we play, but mine started wayyy before i got into osu 2 years ago. i have odd tastes in almost everything, food, games, music, content creators i enjoy watching and even anime. so ive always found it hard to find a good group of friends that enjoy even 2 or 3 similar things to me, but i eventually found a group of friend that i just genuinely enjoy being around even if we arent playing anything. i mainly play osu and genshin and not a single one of them play but i still go into the chat and hangout because i enjoy their company and they dont care if im playing a different game. obviously it matters if you have at least 1 game that you can play together(for me its valorant) but finding a group of people that you dont even need to play games with to have a good time is very essential for us niche gamers. it also might help that im very very introverted and have gone months without interacting with any friends online or in person during covid.
This video is so relatable to most of the osu! community and even to myself as well, i stayed to osu because it was a game i enjoyed playing and i actually made friends and met friends irl from osu, but most of my irl friends while i was playing osu didnt really mind as well, some of my irls actually played osu cause of me and they’re hooked like all of us in the first time we got hooked as well. Im very happy i met alot of people in this community, if it was in tourneys and random discord servers.
Update (this video got recommended to me again): i got into maimai in mid-may this year, and i found a new community and i have been welcomed to a new perspective of rhythm games (only played osu and cytus), i really loved maimai and i still play it alot to this day, im already 14.5k starting from a beginner in may and never played osu alot since, i think this video just reminded me how i made my friends from osu and them transitioning to maimai, and me transitioning to maimai and the friends i made in the first place. maimai is a retirement home for osu players fr

It’s been a while since a video has resonated with me in such a personal way. I have some friends/acquaintances that I could become closer with/become friends with if I played Overwatch, but I really don’t have any interest in it. I love osu, but I started realizing how unhealthy the addiction was for my wellbeing and my grades, so I slowly dropped it. I’ll probably end up going back to it eventually, like I always do, but for now I don’t have a game I can escape into and I feel like part of me is missing. Maybe I should just made friends that play osu, but I struggle a lot with making and keeping online friends, so I don’t even bother anymore.

Genuinely have felt the same way, main friend group all plays tarkov, Warzone and League and I am the only one who plays osu! I found getting to know your local / countries community on osu to be allot better and have been fortunate enough to meet many of the UK players and friends I have made on multiple occasions at Lan Events, but other than that, with how big of a community osu has it does feel like you kind of have no one around and no one to enjoy the game with. I played apex for 2 years after 'giving up' on osu, played that daily and enjoyed it but then once I got back into osu after apex getting so dry and boring on content I haven't touched that game properly in like 6+ months. One of the main things that has kept me connected with my main friend group tho is doing stuff that isn't gaming related like some TV nights, just chatting on call for hours about random stuff and just more so enjoying sports like NFL, NHL and F1, it's kinda weird how a friend group has adapted from gaming only to doing everything but I have just had to accept that osu! is completly seperate from my friend group, not hidden but just my own little thing even though it takes up allot of space in my own life. Also have had to get used to hearing the group all playing one game and just doing my own thing but listening out to keep up with the convos, I normally don't even bother to play osu in call as it's distracting + i used push to talk so it's hard to keep up with the convo. ANYWAYS Long Story Short, You kinda learn who your main group of friends in as you grow older (i say that as I turn 20 next month -_-) and even if you don't enjoy the same games you can still enjoy a convo :)

when the pandemic started i was playing valorant and i meet a lot of people, but then i discoverd osu and i felt the exact same way that you felt in the video, but at the time i just didin't care that my real life friend group started to move on and played other games, but then i meet incredible people in the osu comunnity and then they become my new irl friends. I used to thougth that osu ruined my life, but actually made me a better person and made me meet people that i actually relate to. i hope u get the same way as the time pass and don't keep it like a life ruining moment. hope u the best!.
i know the feeling you have. i have it too, you at least still enjoy one game. i dont really enjoy gaming anymore, i became more invested in music production, but from time to time i enjoy a few games of Overwatch, CoD and recently heartstone. id like to find a game where i can meet new people again but sadly in most games there are too many toxic people and before i could even meet cool people i get frustrated and continue working on music. why did multiplayer gaming change so much in the last few years? idk, maybe i just changed.

What will I be doing outside of OSU! 1.Continue doing youtube 2.Just go outside more, climb a mountain, drive in places you didn't visit 3.Gym, this is my best "time killer" 4.Watch podcasts (like huberman's) 5.Try out some random skills like doing a wheelie on a bike, ice skating, card throwing 6.Spend time with people that you like 7.Meditate (this lowers the baseline to dopamine, so you need less to fill fulfilled by a task) 8.Read After you finish your daily tasks (that you put in) you can play games, and you will enjoy them more. Games numb us. For most of us they make us feel empty.

Basically everything you said relates to me. I've played with my friends on CoD, then Fortnite, then Rocket League, etc. But now, with osu!, I don't really know anyone who plays it around me, so I don't really have anyone to talk about osu!. I already was a person struggling to make friends, but now I have even less. But since I was used to it already, it didn't affected me. osu! made me discover so many songs, genres, artists (I fell in love with Camellia songs) etc. and I just love the osu! community and the other ones close to it so much that I consider osu! as the best game I've ever played. I have so much fun playing the songs I like (especially since music really means something to me). I've never had so much fun playing a game. Really good video. I find it pretty relatable but for me the case is a little different. In highschool i would barely find any people that actually played video games so sometimes i had to fit in with different topics that were pretty meh. And even after highschool the friends i have rn all play osu but they are slowly drifting away from the game. Im probably gonna be the last one standing since i make content for it 😅. This is exactly how I felt about video games in general. I didn’t understand why I even played some games anymore, except that my friends played it. Then came osu! and although only 1 person I knew played it, it was fun. They don’t really play anymore, but I still enjoy the game.
I found this video kind of relatable. I'm still in touch with my friends, but I don't play games like Cs:Go, Apex, Rainbow Six: Siege as much as they do. I only play with them if they invite me, otherwise I'd rather play the rhythm game similar to osu!, called Project Sekai. No one else in my friend group likes it and that's why I sometimes feel lonely. By the way, that's why I'm the only person I know that loves J-pop so much. Thanks for your video a lot. This video resonates with me so much, but the good aspect about playing osu is the pure amount of people that I met from other countries from around the world, and I'm still getting more of them. All the people I met in this game have similar traits or hobbies, as in my other friend group the only thing that connected me to them was the same games we played and the fact we speak the same language. Different cultures affected me as a person a lot and I learned to speak English more fluently as a result of needing it to communicate with others. If it wasn't for osu! I would've probably still sat in a vc with your typical raging, racist and homophobic Polish people and not even speak English at all. unironically the aspect of meeting people around the world from osu made me more interested in geography and different cultures. I wouldn't even known about some countries existence if it wasn't for meeting people around the world

Also with different people, you have different viewpoints on the world and you can learn a lot from each one of them. I can't really relate to the last sentence tho, cuz I was forced to learn every countries geographic location for my geography classes at school lol
honestly i relate to this a lot, every secondary schooler on this planet either wants to play a fps game, fortnite, or some bumass football videogame, and so its very hard for me to find games in common with them (except for very specific stuff, like minecraft (everyone in this planet knows what that is!!)), so yeah, while my friends were playing cyberpunk i was beating demons on geometry dash 💀
this is so relatable. At some point I played just osu for pretty much the whole day and would get constantly made fun of for playing a clicking circle game and not some mainstream one like Valorant as you mentioned. It got to the point where I had to pretty much learn how to play valorant and thank god I was into it else I would genuinely have no friends lol. now whenever people ask me what games I play I just say valorant or some other game and hope they don't catch me playing osu.
I used to slave at a bunch of games with my friends that I didn’t enjoy or had lost the joy of playing them just so I can fit into a group and feel like a normal kid. Siege was getting stale, Minecraft wasn’t as fun as it used to be, forza got boring after a while, convincing people to play battlefield was like telling a rock to do a flip, etc. Once I began playing osu I stopped playing other games just because I enjoyed osu more. My friends either didn’t have a pc or weren’t interested in the game at all and at times even teased me for playing, but I just ignored it and played alone. Yes it’d get frustrating at times and yes I did feel like quitting on a few occasions, but that’s a cycle I’ve gone through almost every game. The thing about osu is no matter how many times I put down the pen, I’d find myself playing shortly after just because I genuinely do enjoy the game. And it’s thanks to this that I’ve found a community that I can be a part of. I’ve met people and interacted with them without feeling like I have to fake wanting to be there. Yes it seems childish to say I click circles all day outside of school and yes the weird looks are warranted, but at the end of the day it’s what I enjoy doing and to me that’s all that matters and that’s all that that should matter.

If i'm being frankly honest, I can't relate too much to this video because I never had any friends to play games with in the first place when I started osu! so osu taking up potential time I could be spending with friends was never an issue for me but despite that I can understand your points of views and perspectives! And the editing of this video is extremely engaging, please, if you were to switch to another game like valorant, keep your editing style or have it similar to this editing style, because I really do think its that good!

This is pretty relatable for me. Except instead of osu, I just play a lot of genshin. People don't really like genshin that much since it's the 'pedo' game and a lot of my friends just play valorant a lot. I find it hard to join in with them even though they totally would be fine with me joining them, it's just that I'm not very good at shooter games and whenever I play everything in the game just seems very hard. As a result, I just play a lot of genshin by myself and have begun to get more distance from my friends.
I relate to the part where I reject the norm, but I do not lose social interaction, because I am able to talk to friends easily just due to me knowing stuff and usually being the one who asks questions. When I get asked the question, I say what I want, osu, I love the game (along with GD of all games) and will not lie about this stuff, cuz it's worthless, even then I usually divert convos to things both parties can understand and all is well. So all in all, I don't lose social interaction, more gain actually because I'm forced to think on the spot about what the person likes.

I relate to this on a personal level.I'm a huge persona,dj max(specifically the portable series),Lumines and beatmania iidx fan and bc of this it's hard for me to make friends.When I come across people that play video games(which is quite uncommon here in Romania) they usually play generic popular games and it sucks bc I just want to make friends that like the same stuff that I do. Every time I finally get some one to play persona they quit saying they don't have enough time and every time I try to talk to someone about beatmania they just brush me off.
Been playing Osu! Mania for almost a decade now (2014) as well as other rhythm games (love live, enstars, guitar hero series, adofai, o2jam, deemo, blackstar theater, hypnosis mic, cytus, many other rhythm games) and a lot of what you talked about really resonated with me. It's hard fitting in when you play games like this bc rarely anyone plays it irl. Then when you do get someone into it, they get frustrated due to the learning curve, or get bored fast. Also the comment at the beginning about not knowing a woman's touch if you play certain games is always so funny when you're a woman yourself

So many people relate to this video, me included. I dont regret my decisions though. I enjoy playing league of legends with my highschool friends from time, and I actually actively enjoy playing rocket league now, so thats an easy conversation starter. I wouldn't replace my online friends I met through the game for anything in the world though
i play osu mania... sometimes, a lot of games fell off to me, i played fps shooters a lot, altho rhythm games really are my favorite type of games, i have a good friendgroup, we all play different games but still meet up in the middle a lot of times throughout, playing whole new games to all of us every once in a while, these are the type of friends to help you with relationships and get you through tough times. this is the type of friend group everyone needs but not everyone has.
ive been playing osu! for close to 5 years now and i do not regret any part of it! 50% of that i used to be very ashamed about talking about this circle clicking game but i somehow after a while got used to it and don't feel embarassed anymore since i'm proud of the game i play, i respect btmc when he advertises/talks about osu! outside of the circle i used to feel cringe when he does it but now i just really respect him.

This was me and then osu gave me trigger finger in all of my possible tapping fingers. Now every game that I am capable of playing just doesn't fulfill me as much as it used to.
Hey man this video really hit close All my friends are playing valorant and whatever else is mainstream and while I loved it in lockdown I found osu and never looked back. I’m still yet to talk to any people who enjoy osu but I just wanna say this video really showed me why should I care, I enjoy what I enjoy and that’s not gonna change. Honestly, this is just relatable as fuck man, even my friends don't care about me cuz i don't like watching animie and just... play some video games and even hell! The game I like, most of the people wouldn't even know cuz it's a more popular in japan and the game is brawler/beat 'em up/ an open "hub" world game. I mean the game is popular in western as well... but for my country which is bangladesh/west bengali, like not even a single "gamer" played it, like I showed an clip of Akirya Nishkiyama boss fight from yakuza kiwami without spoiling anything and he thought it was apperantly a "GTA clone" even tho it was a fucking beat em up and showed him the goffyness of yakuza kiwami 2 street fight's and he thought it was even more gta clone cuz you face off gangster's and yakuza's and other types of crime related people, and then he just gave up. One day i showed an street fight on convinence store yakuza kiwami 2 clip and he had the most potential to understad that it's a hidden gem, and even played Yakuza 0 and completed most of the early substories, mini games, sidestories. When everything looked good, he got carried away by one piece and yah, this is where i am at, hell most of the people dont even know me irl but as just some dude without life.
can relate. The saddest thing for me is to have noone to talk about osu!. The scores i set, my improvement, talk about cool underrated maps or songs. I can't talk about this with noone because they will understand shit. Like you i have a game too but it's Genshin Impact. Ironically, since i play osu i should like FPS but i don't like FPS at all :) cool video xx
TLDR - osu has caused me pain, and I used it to improve my life. I don't relate to this video too much, but I see where it's coming from. My experience has been a little different, and it overall made me realize my nature and change my perspective in life into something positive for the most part. To start, I personally experienced that disinterest in playing other games with my irl friends and it made me struggle a lot with what I should do. When getting into the osu community, it taught me the difference between something real and fake, what kind of environment to be in or not, and the good and bad side of people online. There were times where I would cry due to the problems I battled within myself when talking to people on osu. The game itself has been a problem at times as well. I loved gaining ranks and just going full mode on maps. But when I start to struggle throughout multiple days, it takes a toll and makes me think if its worth it to continue playing. Throughout time though, I think I reached epiphanies and saw the repeating cycle of both my social life and mental life because of osu. I have since then tried to just stay passive and neutral, really distancing myself from the community and trying not to be involved in specific groups for too long. On the mental side, I slowly changed my mindset to something more positive and it helped me cope when I struggle. Now, I'm in a good spot when it comes to relations with school, friends, family, and my physical and mental health, and I dedicate part of it to osu.
As an avid player of the video game geometry dash which I have found has similar effects on its players as osu my trick to having a social life is to hide the fact I play this game from everyone I know
I get your point, I was in the same situation. But in the other side, you realize by yourself how it was time spender on those things, not other people, you. That's why I don't feel it was wasting your time, because you found out yourself. You don't have to change for a friend group, there will always be people who have the same interests like you. My friends were super cool about my osu addiction. We are all very busy so by the time we started getting together again to hop in discord I was already getting FCs on some 5 star maps. There were some nights where I just straight up didn't feel like playing whatever game they were, or was unusually skilled on that day, and I'd say something along the lines of, "I'm good for tonight, probably just gonna hop in the call and play osu." Not only were they cool with it, they would ask me to stream without being prompted so they could watch, and be amazed the entire time since none of them played themselves or even heard of it before. It probably helped that I would always ask if there was any maps they wanted me to find, but it also helped me immensely with gaining consistency as our sessions would last up to 8 hours at times, with me sitting there blindly hitting circles not really paying attention to the fact that I was becoming better because of it. If your friends don't support your crippling rhythm game addictions can you really call them friends?
Damn bro. I gotta admit the games you dont enjoy part hit me. All the friend groups" i joined had one thing going for them and that is simply playing the same games as them and you wouldn't know it spending less time with those games the more distanced you feel with them until its just gone. I always accepted the fact that its just how it is, we are just simply "different" I enjoy strategy games and sci-fi related games but i cant say the same with my friends when i usually see them with fantasy games that doesnt interest me much. We all seek connections with each other, sometimes 1 is enough but in reality it is superficial, they just simply wanted hang out with someone and maybe that is really what you need to keep going. If you have cool memories, keep it. maybe one of the days you could use it to really connect more with them in future.... maybe.
