Ive just had this and it is the most surreal thing ever. I was talking to my anaesthetist. Pain after is excruciating.

Knee surgery is very painful. It . 4 years since my right knee replacement and 18 months since my left replacement. Still have pain. It's better than it was, though

With my first knee replacement I was on Darvon, Morphine and Valium for at least 2 weeks. I stopped the Morphine first , but took the other 2 for the first month of physical therapy. The pain was horrible. I had my hip replacement and it was a walk in the park. I was given an epidural for the other knee and it messed my back up. The nerve pain from my back made the pain from my knee worse. I got Oxycodone and muscle relaxers, but I really missed the Darvon. I always laugh when I hear people say that they aren't going to take narcotic meds after their knee replacement. I tell them that they are lying and they will be crying for the drugs as soon as the nerve blockers wear off.

Yes, please listen to patients in pain. I'm of the 15% where tramadol doesn't do a thing. I can't remember how many arguments with interns that insist tramadol is enough, and I dont need opiods. With a history of 15 orthopedic surgeries and no sign of addiction, they still think they know my body better than I do. Dislocated/crushed elbow and ER sent me home with ibuprofen. Pain was so excruciating that I started taking aspirin and lost count. Ended up in ICU for 5 days with aspirin overdose, almost died from kidney failure. All could have been avoided with a 7 day script for hydrocodone to hold me until I could see my ortho surgeon.

My surgery was EXTREMELY painful and the doctor and nurses did not believe me. Immediately after surgery my leg looked like it would explode and they were stunned by the swelling. I was at a good weight and in good condition. I could not do the basic activities tests in the hospital and they were annoyed with me and discharged me. Pain remained horrible for months despite my doing everything correctly. Eight years later, after multiple doctors, my knee still hurts every day. The slightly older lady across the hall was up and moving with a smile on her face that day. As for being "routine surgery" , I told a doctor that it was routine for him, not me.

I recently had two knees replaced. The pain was not bad the first day. After the nerve block wore off I was able to walk but it did hurt.

Hurts a lot for at least the first 2 weeks. I'm on week 5 now, pain not bad during the day using just Tylenol, but sleeping at night is still difficult .

My question is do surgeons lie to their patients to make the surgery sound like it is not a big deal? If you have a patient who wants to know details about how the surgery is performed how will they be positioned on the bed or if you require a Foley and if are they completely naked. Do tell them the truth? As a surgeon, do you give less information? One they might not understand and two it might scare them and cause anxiety. Personally, I like to know the details I don't like going in blindly and then waking up later with part of my leg permanently numb. That is what happened when I had knee surgery in the late 90's I was never informed my knee on the right side would never have feeling again. The surgeon even tried to tell me it would go away and I would be fine and that was over 20 years ago and still have no feeling because he cut the nerves.

I had Tibial tubercle transfer and MPFL reconstruction. I didn’t need anything but Tylenol after! The pain was nuts but not worth taking narcotics.

Not had either, yet! But breaking my right femur was rather painful!!!

I broke my right femur in 2 places 50 years ago, motorcycle accident. Just had TNR on that leg. Very painful recovery. I'm at 5 weeks now and it's not too bad, still taking Tylenol regularly. .

I'm a Highscool sutdent, i have seen a couple of your videos in the last hour, i got to say, i was really interested about this tipes of surgery before, but you just told me that wile you are lowkey splitting open someone knee, THEY ARE CONCOUS??? I mean was always interested about medicine but this took it on a all another level

The pain post op was controlled and was never as bad as the pain pre op.

Hello i have two questions; i read somewhere that cardiac arrest is a big risk of spinal anesthesia. Is this true? How common is nerve damage? And how long of a procedure can spinal be utilized for? Thank you for your time
