Why and how did Palpatine become a dark lord of the Sith? In this video we explain why Palpatine joined the Sith order and explore how he was fascinated and enamored with it even before meeting his dark side master Darth Plagueis. We also explain what dark deed Palpatine committed in order to be accepted by Plagueis as his apprentice.

Well, prequels are basically a trilogy about a grand plan of the Sith, it's just shown from Skywalker's perspective. And we get a lot of Palpatine's perspective in ROTS, that movie basically belongs to him as much as it belongs to Anakin who becomes a Sith by the second half of the movie. So it's a pretty Sithly movie.

I've seen a video explaining that perhaps - just perhaps - he loved Maul...in his own way. When speaking to Vader about all that had come to pass, he spoke of Count Dooku's fate as a detail, whereas Maul was a definite loss. I wonder what made him do it. What made Palpatine feel so distinct and different from everyone? Was it that he subconsciously knew his father felt the same and got it from him? Treachery is the Sith way. Palpatine betrays Count Dooku aboard the Invisible Hand above Coruscant in Revenge of The Sith. Darth Vader betrays and murders Palpatine, since he sacrificed his life to save Luke from his evil master and dies, after Luke takes off his mask and look into his son's eyes. This is the first and last time that Anakin look into Luke's eyes.

Well, from a pure technical standpoint murdering your Emperor is a form of treason, however from a human perspective, Emperor betrayed Vader and not the other way around. Emperor's behavior at that point was certainly unworthy, and what Vader did to Emperor was certainly Emperor's own design, willingly or not.

I see palpatine as a natural born sith spawn. A human sith spawn can be trained and made to think and act like palpatine. But palpatine had these traits and genetic deviations without alterations. I think this is supported by the fact that palpatine probably changed extremely little when he became a Sith Lord, minus the strength in the force of course. If we didn’t get his backstory, I would think someone gave him these traits intentionally.

Now I understand more about Palpatine's history the only thing that he was uncontrolled over was how Anakin was meant to become Darth Vader how Plagueis before his death got a force vision of a boy wasn't sure who he was when you saw him at the time he coming machine enclosed in dark armor and Palpatine not being trivia to this that is why he was greatly disappointed that Vader didn't become what he expected.

Being that Naboo was in the Republic. Why didn't the Jedi Order identify him at a young age, as Qui-Gon Jinn conveyed to Shmi about Skywalker in Ep. I? Bryce Collins Naboo wasn't a Republic planet when Palpatine was a child. The Jedi didn't have any reason to go looking for him. Plus it's possible that Palpatine's father wouldn't have let the Jedi take him.

killing the family would make sense but Sith at this time would use secrecy. Killing a noble family and hiding it I would think it would be hard to do. Especially if he did it at that moment and not plan it

I personally love this explanation for Palpatine's backstory - you can read the details online, but this really delves into the backstory of the character who was once described by his actor as "more evil than the Devil" and "a character of solid blackness" - you can see how he was pure evil and has truly never felt, as you say. I think this backstory is wholly appropriate for a character like Palpatine who is "evil incarnate," and your explanation of it is excellent - entertaining, doesn't make one want to turn off the video halfway through, really communicates the story and the character's development over his past well. :)

Palpatine was born a sociopath. No amount of love would fix that. His father's hatred just pushed his inevitable desire to join the Sith.

AJ Rice you can only be born as a psychopath. Also psychopaths are known for contingency plans and patience. Sociopaths are molded by society, erratic and aggressive - Darth Maul would be a typical sociopath

Finally. Thank you for Palpatine 's story. Always wondered how and why he became a Sith. Wish there was more info on the Sith and their return to the galaxy. Return from where? The religion must have gone underground at sometime and kept alive.

Read the Darth Bane Trilogy (Path of Destruction, Rule of Two, Dynasty of Evil) by Drew Karpyshyn, and then the novel Darth Plagueis by James Luceno if you want that story.

A slight correction Palpatine's father Casinga did want power however Palpatine saw him as unworthy for even that little power that his father did desire. Maybe what you are saying comes from other media, but Palpatine was also goaded by Plagueis in other ways to murder his family, by his sudden arrival on the legislative youth program on Chandrilla, and his embellished story of Plagueis subtly murdering his own family to encourage him. In the book Palpatine certainly was no complete sociopath he had tendencies towards the dark but he wasn't a cold-blooded murder, it took Plagueis to fully unleash his demons to their fullest extent.

Jake Gray Basically the new trilogy is a huge mess. Snoke’s explanation was a single sentence, the knights of ren were never explained (and only had like 5 minutes of screentime total), and Rey’s origin did a complete 180 under JJ Abrams. It’s not really worth investigating further lol.
