I agree with the psychologist.... kids need to venture out and learn about the world.

The US Navy initiated my adulthood during bootcamp, but it really forced me to face reality when we pulled into Tangier, Morocco during the reign of King Hassan II in 1978. Tangier is the toughest port in North Africa and Morocco had basic Sharia Law. That was my harsh awakening to reality. I'm glad the USN exposed me to a reality I could never have imagined.

Is it me or could there be some correlation with the increasingly polarised political, news and social media landscape over the last twenty years? I haven’t read the book so this is not a rhetorical question.

Kid's are having arrested development because we are always there for them. But the world is not safe these days. That's the dilemma for parents. I guess the answer is balance.

@jumbeaux1 News flash, the world was NEVER safe ever since humans existed. Previous generations weren't overly protective and most kids turned out fine. Watch how lions and tigers raise their offspring, they let them out in the world so they learn to survive. Not saying kids under 12 should be unsupervised, but young teens definitely can go out and learn things instead of being addicted to RU-vid, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I think this problem is not as prevalent as he makes it seem. Many kids are coddled and still grow up to be well adjusted individuals.
