I love him saying Ringo would obviously be Sam… because Ringo was such a patient and true friend to everyone during everything. When watching the footage, It’s clear he was struggling with his own depression (around the loss of Brian), but instead of letting that out, he cares more about those around him. It’s easy to go into your own sadness but instead he lifts everyone’s spirits and is there for everyone the entire time. Even Yoko and Linda are seen saying “Ringo is the best”, “I agree. I just feel the most calm around Ringo”. He is definitely the Sam of the group

Watching this Beatles-footage is like watching into an impossible past that was forever lost. Like if someone came up to me with footage of my grandparents (which doesn´t exist). I´m stunned and I can´t really comprehend it. To see the group in their prime. Young again and making the music I´ve listening to since I was a kid (I´m 40 now). Thank you so much, Peter Jackson :) Greetings from Norway ;)

I can remember when The Beatles first performed in America. I went to the debut of "A Hard Day's Night" at my local movie theater, and I was a true Beatlemaniac, as their fans were called. This movie takes me back in time: I forget half a century has passed, and I'm once again in a world where The Beatles are alive and well and making the music I will always love them for. I miss that world, and I miss them so much it hurts....but at least we had them for a little while, and their music continues to bring us real joy and keep our hearts open.

Damnit. I was smiling while crying just watching that clip with Billy Preston. I am going to be a mess when I get the courage to watch it (needing courage because I will cry throughout). Been loving The Beatles since I was two years old (in 1966) when my Mom would play the Meet The Beatles album all the time at home. She told me I was a about two months old when they came to City Park Stadium in City Park in New Orleans, so she couldn't go to the concert, but she sat on the swing set in our backyard and swang with me while listening, because we lived very near City Park. Also, Yellow Submarine was the first film she took me to when it came out in theatres (I was around 4), so The Beatles have influenced my ENTIRE life. I am so happy for that. Blessed Angels!!

Paul having a hand in writing Gimme Some Truth is a huge revelation. That is considered such a typical John song. The type of song only John's solo career could produce, with its biting, edgy political cynicism. The fact Paul was part of that definitely changes the narrative a bit. He was obviously much more than his old timey "granny sh*t" (Johns actual words).

that clip showing Billy Preston "lifting" the band up shows the moment when and how The Beatles got their SOUL back. in the beginning, The Beatles were highly influenced by soul music and artists...then they started experimenting with other stuff...this right here, when Billy came, the boys got BACK to what made them in the first place..they got back to their beginning...rock n roll with a SOUL.

@johnp515
@johnp515 2 года назад
@@michelesmith2620 absolutely ludicrous to call their first albums horrid. No it wasn’t skiffle. They never played skiffle , they played rock and roll and wrote songs that from the beginning transcended rock and Roll, that’s why The Times of London called them “the greatest composers since Schubert” before they’d even set foot on American soil. Bob Dylan said of their early songs: “Their chords were just outrageous but the harmonies made them valid” Ronnie Spector said of their first record in The States “It sounded like it came from the moon, it was so different”

@@michelesmith2620 That’s hilarious! “Google is your friend” friend at what? Giving basic information that idiots misunderstand? Have you ever heard skiffle? I bet you’ve never heard Lonnie Donegan in your life. Do any Beatles recordings sound like it? Lonnie Donegan became famous for country type pop music whose feature was that it could be performed with just guitars and things like washboards and a homemade bass and such-like. This inspired a generation of teenagers in Britain in the 50s to go out and do it for themselves, this was one of the original things that inspired John Lennon to form a band, but from the beginning what all The Beatles loved was Rock and Roll. Therefore it’s laughably stupid or maybe just a lack of comprehension skills to do a quick Google search and take from that that The Beatles were performing skiffle at the beginning of their recording career in 1962. In fact, you haven’t even heard The Beatles early albums have you? So come back when you know what you’re talking about.

When you think about the length of time that took place where they went from being in Hamburg as young boys cutting their teeth at musical boot camp to the Let It Be Era where they were clearly masters of their craft and had become the biggest band of the time perhaps even in history... It is hard not to be completely blown away. It is absolutely astonishing! They did so much in what was essentially just a blink of an eye. Less than 6 years. Incredible! I got to see Paul at Dodger Stadium in 18 and saw Ringo join him for a few songs. Ringo told the ladies in the audience to show us all how a Beatles scream was done. My ears are still ringing from that sound. Wow! Never heard anything like it. I think it says a lot about how great they were. R.I.P. John and George. At first I hated it, but gradually I started to see its appeal... Soon I was up and about singing and dancing with everyone.... My health improved more and more that I eventually had the strength to go see them in concert... They were amazing... I will never forget it..... It’s a shame that they didn’t film Billy more but, given that he wasn’t considered an oficial member of the band, it seems normal that they were mainly focusing on the official band members. If I remember correctly he visibly joins the stage only for Brian’s guitar solo in Hammer to Fall and maybe another song (I should have to rewatch the whole show to be sure, anyway).

@@hernan_guitar Yep that's a really good point, he wasn't an official member of the band. He was just another 'Fifth Beatle.' Possibly the most likely to have become a member if anyone extra had been required. He seemed to fit really well creatively and temperamentally. George Martin really was part of the band creatively. Then there was Eric Clapton who was a serious contender to join when George walked out. But not such a good fit temperamentally - the guy who in 1976 was screaming from a stage for immigrants to go home. Not such a good fit for the Beatles who were parodying these attitudes in the earlier version of 'the song 'Get Back'!

@@jimbojam65 I agree. Billy would have been an amazing addition to the group. It’s beautiful how as soon as he joins them at the studio he lifts their spirits up. The whole atmosphere changes for the better. Too bad it didn’t last, but at least there was enough time for him to contribute some of his great talent to the making of Let It Be, Abbey Road and Get Back/Don't Let Me Down (credited as "The Beatles with Billy Preston"; only musician to be given credit on a Beatles recording).

I've listened to the Beatles for 30 years, I took a rock and roll class where we did a deep dive into the Beatles, and only after watching this tear jerking series did I learn this. What an amazing group of people the Beatles were. Thank you Peter Jackson for putting this together. Thank you to Yoko, John, Ringo, and the rest for producing all of this.

Damn well said. Paul is Frodo, the one entrusted with the ring of power, the reluctant leader on a necessary mission who is not above corruption. John Lennon is Gollum---A talented ring bearer himself however one often misunderstood, who is corrupted by vices and darker thoughts including acts of violence, none the less an absolutely vital companion of Frodo who led the way to Mt. Doom. George is Gandalf, the wisest and most spiritual of the band who is aware of the talent of John and Paul and will contribute in the fellowship's progress but who ultimately must walk his own path towards enlightenment and self resurrection as his own man and solo artist. And Ringo as Samwise Gamgee---The ever reliable ever dependent companion that was as much the "Beat" in the "Beatles" as the "Fellow" in "Fellowship". The rock, the base, the glue, the leveling force, the one that will carry the group when they cannot carry themselves, and without Ringo/Sam, none of the success of the fellowship would have been possible. Very apt. Well done Peter Jackson.

As I’ve seen all three episodes now,the one takeaway is Paul was doing all the heavy lifting . You would have to awfully biased not to understand that. The first episode said it all. Paul was on the verge of tears when George,and John didn’t show up. Through the series you see Paul sussing out “Let It Be” no one was paying attention in reality. They moved to the basement of Apple,and Billy stopped by to say hi. They needed that, it opened up the scope of what was possible with the songs in their embryonic stages. This film is a time capsule of over fifty years ago. I of course am not a soothsayer hence don’t know what the technology will be in ten years,let alone a hundred. But ! The Beatles will be dissected forever . Technology will also use the other approx forty five hours of tape into an hour a day look behind the veil of the most profound group of musicians since Bach, and Schubert . - I mention those two composers as they greatly influence Paul in particular …
@kimnorris8301
@kimnorris8301 2 года назад
Really - didn’t know this about Bach and Schubert, but it makes sense.
@jacquescousteau217
@jacquescousteau217 2 года назад
@@kimnorris8301 Hi Kim. The reason I mentioned Schubert,and Bach is the idea that both wrote great chamber music, string quartets ,or quintets ( Schubert double cellos D 956 in C major. The best in Schubert’s oeuvre in many critics,and musicians . In my opinion it bests Mozart,and Beethoven in the genre albeit two violas ) I personally have already stolen the third movement Presto ( trio ) . Both composers wrote well defined melodies in small chamber ensemble’s. Listening to a hundred or more piece symphony generally gets technical to the degree of being hard to define melodies,and harmonies, hence small group of strings is IN MY OPINION easier to relate to. It’s pop music of the era, and if you’re a musician you can borrow a lot of great melodies,and harmonies. Paul Simon,and Paul McCartney are the two that come to mind. You sound learned musically ,so I assume you can relate to what I’m writing. George Martin sussed out parts with Paul’s help as early as “ Yesterday “ . I’ve heard both worked together on the cello parts for yesterday,and Rigby ( Hitchcock’s “Psycho” cello exactly ) … Cheers, JG
