I do really love this game, and it's improved a lot over all the updates. It's definitely a love/hate relationship, though. The game is great, almost solely due to the free aiming and limb damage system, but there are a lot of things that could be improved, in my opinion. I honestly wish there were more mods available, because theres a few changes id really like to see. Mainly, I preferred the levelling skillpoint gain from launch, and id like to see less glass cannon-y units. Nowadays, the limb mechanics dont really affect your soldiers much, because they generally get oneshotted by everything. Anyway, I could write an entire essay on why i love and hate this game at the same time, but this is the youtube comment section xD

@@PhoenixPointGame Once i finish my campaign (half way through it i believe) i will certainly give you a huge feedback too). I believe the game can be HUGELY improved by some minor tweaks. The game definitely have potential to be incredibly awesome, it just need some polishing here and there. Also, opening it more to mods will help a lot to improve the game, if it's not intended uet. People will play it longer, having more fun with it and it will just grow on popularity. The sooner, the better. Anyway, good luck to the team !

I love this game. However, I really wish the developer's improve the blood animation when you hit a target. Also wish there were blood pools lying around when you kill a target. Looks much cooler like it was in Xcom 2. Currently, the blood on the ground just disappears when a target bleeds making it look unreal.

With temptation getting the better of me - when I realized the release of the Year One edition on Steam came with a good discount - I've been starting my very first game this December. First impression playing (and not only watching RU-vid videos of the game) is positive. I've had a lot of fun this far. I've only played on the easiest difficulty, obviously. I want to get to know the game-mechanics before sentencing the planet to destruction by playing the hardest level. Don't know if it is possible on the hardest difficulty level, but on the easiest I'm able to run a profit just by trading resources around. Somehow I feel this is now a combination of UFO: Enemy Unknown and Ports of Call... aaahh... good memories there. The game is mostly enjoyable as it is. The only complaint I have at the moment (that is warranted a mention) is Training Facilities. You can recruit a soldier; put him at a base; take him on his first mission as a level seven rookie. Not my cup of tea. Even though it is part of the game, it feels like cheating to do so. Needless to say: I've never built one. And if one shows up at a base, I'm demolishing the facility. Soldiers should only get experience from being on the battlefield. Not hanging around the barracks playing poker...
@oleksaderzybis9052
@oleksaderzybis9052 3 года назад
Training Facilities don't give enough skill points, so 6-th level soldiers will have OR good stats, OR nice skills. That was my failure when of normal difficulty I thought good skills mean good kills and came out with 7 high-level retards with 10 will points only each. ":D On the other hand I have a priest that made his way from the very beginning of the game and now he has 60 free skill points, but can't take last two perks, 'cause he is still level 6, for he nevel learned nothing as, you know... gaining knowlege. Only experience.
@Kjotleik
@Kjotleik 3 года назад
@@oleksaderzybis9052 Yes, I agree that the lack of SP from passive XP gains is something to consider. But this game does have a generic SP pool that can be used on any soldier at any time. If you plan ahead, a level seven rookie can enter the battlefield with max stats and all the necessary skills. Of course, this is easiest on the easier difficulty level, and hard on the hardest. But it is still possible. While I don't consider Training Facilities gamebreaking, I think it is very overpowered to use them. If I lose the game three times in a row on the hardest difficulty level, I may use Training Facilities on the fourth. Just to experience the difference. But if I win the first game on the hardest difficulty... I'll soon lose interest in the game. Then it is too easy.

@brajuhani

You can make profit with trading, but it is not mandatory to do. I would say putting that plane exploring gives better income anyway. You can raise level of soldiers with training (which is nice, if someone dies, you don't have to take a total rookie on the field as replacement, they still kinda suck compared to field experienced soldier, but hey it's something), but you don't get much SP for them, which is way more important. You gat that only by doing missions with them. On easy you will be swimming in SP tough, on harder difficulties you get way less of them, you can't just abuse common pool, and actually have to go and earn those points.

I don't have an extra life to waste on this game, there is any simple version of this game that I can actually play and enjoy and not get frustrated by the overcomplexity of the game ? There is a word of wisdom that is ignored in this time by game producers : " Sometime less mean more " dont just complicate a game to justify the work you done on a game, insted just try to make it more simple and funn.

I've had waited a year to play this game and it was a good thing too. I see that there are major improvements from when it first came out on Epic games. Although there are still many improvements that could are still needed. Like the interface of the personnel tab. It is hard to know which aircraft is for which base when all the aircraft are listed at the top portion of the list and all the bases are listed under after the aircrafts. It would have been nice if the aircrafts where listed with their respective bases in tabs instead of one long scroll down list. I also notice the snipers are no different when it comes to firing, the closer you are the more accurate, although the sniper has a slightly higher accuracy it isn't by much. I just felt the snipers should have higher accuracy when farther away. When manufacturing things I just wish there was a slide bar or have the ability to enter the amount we want to make instead of just clicking away repeatedly with the mouse. On the world map, it be easier to ID which aircraft goes with which base if there was something like a color coding or something that makes it easier to keep track.

I have never spent 300 hours on a game with worse quality of life and UI than Phoenix Point. There are SO MANY things that need to be improved. Friendly fire on overwatches, not being able to see recruits' hidden perks when recruiting from havens, endlessly loooooooong enemy turns, especially during missions against synedrion with lots of infiltrators, Chirons blowing worms into unreachable positions where they cannot be seen or hit yet still explode on their next turn... I could continue for hours. Love the game concept, but the actual gameplay is lackluster. You need to be a hardcore fan of the genre to enjoy this, but if you are - well, Phoenix Point is for you. But beware, the quality of life is terrible and the game, more than a year after release, is not polished at all. You will not be able to play Ironman, since unavoidable bugs will happen and end your campaign. Still, there is quite a bit of fun to be had in this game. If only it was polished or at least somewhat finished - it could set the new standard for the genre. As of right now though, it ranks below even the old titles of Firaxis. Also: not having a true borderless windowed option is inexcusable in 2021. TLDR: Great concept, game very unpolished, quality of life is terrible. The user interface is more akin to what you would expect from an early 2000s indie game.

Oooh Phoenix Point differences? let's see... Um, sold it's backers down the swannee when it went to Epic and also released totally unfinished, without all the DLC it's like half a game, it's playable but there really isn't much interest after the first few fights. Maps are to small, vehicles make them seem even smaller, fights that should be memorable come and go without you even noticing, I didn't even realise I was at the final fight with the Pure, nothing to indicate it was a "boss fight" for instance. Game had good ideas and could have been great but really you're still better off with the X-Com games if you have to choose, get this if you have all those but don't expect it to be as much fun long term.
@brajuhani

Nah, game is really good now. Didn't back the game, but bought the year one version at Steam. Also Firaxis X-Coms are barely in the same genre, these games are very different. I say that having over 1k hours in Firaxis X-Com2 with Long war.
@popuptoaster
@popuptoaster 3 года назад
@@brajuhani You're entitled to your (wrong) opinion, but lets not base it on hours played in games, I have a lot of hours on X-Com 1&2 and am old enough to have played all the originals for many many hours back in the nineties, I also gave Phoenix Point a chance with over 200 hours played in it's various iterations over the last year and it just doesn't have the same feel to it, you don't care about your soldiers as much, none of the battles feel as vital or important, none of the factions feel relevant or like there is any difference no matter what they or the player does. PP would play just as well as it does if it was just a bunch of skirmish missions, without any story at all, there's no depth but to much going on at once, you end up with a whole bunch of squads all flying battle to battle constantly so may as well just drop the story and make it a skirmish game.

Phoenix Point miss a proper game balance compare to other similar turn-based games
@dontanton7775
@dontanton7775 3 года назад
"There are no random chances or die rolls in phoenix point" he said. That's just straight wrong. The randomness of where exactly a bullet hits (inside these two circles provided for aiming) is basically nothing else than a die roll aka random chance.
@Bruno-pw2mp
@Bruno-pw2mp 3 года назад
Not really. Its common sense that theres no way to make a combat where you aways know when you are hitting or not as this would brake almost any strategy game. Its on you to decide which chance to take, as even in real life shoots can and will miss, having a way to aways know if it will hit or not would be completely unrealistic. Also, you can aways completely remove the "die roll" out of your game by aways making good positionig and getting close enough to enemies. While there are strategy games that can show less than 100% to hit even when you are adjacent to the enemy, in this game this doesn’t exist, you can focus more on the positioning strategy and be immune to it. Sometimes the shooting part of the combat is not the most important part. Sometimes just the movement and positioning matters much more. The only die roll on this game is optional. (English not first language)
@dontanton7775
@dontanton7775 3 года назад
@@Bruno-pw2mp "Not really" on what? What is your point? I see many words, but I have no clue what you're trying to say. I merely stated that there is a random function in where a bullet hits within the aiming circle. Are you disputing this? Are you saying, the bullet spread is not randomly determined?
@zaviewilkerson6597
@zaviewilkerson6597 3 года назад
@@dontanton7775 When people say PP has no random dice or chance they're talking about the fact that unlike NuXcom, Phoenix Point doesnt simulate an invisible 100 sided die to determine whether or not your bullets hit a target. This is why in XCOM it's possible to miss a target point blank because that soldier failed his dice roll thus its a total miss without a single bullet hitting its target. Each bullets in Phoenic Point are real objects propelled in the environment that doesnt stop until it hits something.
@dontanton7775
@dontanton7775 3 года назад
@@zaviewilkerson6597 Not what has been said. And nothing that's related to what I said. Any more strawmans? XCOM doesn't roll a die. It uses a 1 dimensional random function. Phoenix Point doesn't roll a die. It uses a 2 dimensional random function. When people say what they say, without meaning what they say, that's there problem with language, not mine. Point stands: PP uses a random function to determine where the bullets hit within the circle. A sniper that shoots at a distant target can miss with a certain percentage, that percentage being the amount of on-target area vs the amount of non-target area proportional to each other, modified by the 50% chance of hitting the inner or outer circle. There is only one situation where that randomness is eliminated, and that's when the whole circle is filled entirely by the target. No amount of strawmanning or "moving the goal-post" blabbering will negate this fact.

@reginald allouchery The kind of friends you seem to prefer, given that you deduct this from my reasoning, are the kind of friends I can really live without. True friends deal with differing opinions by discussion, honesty, confrontation and in the ultimate end, loyalty. Because true friends are not telling each other what they want to hear, to reinforce their weak friendship. It you prefer that kind of dishonest social relationships over your own convictions of what is true and right, then you have already lost at life, as the people you call friends are nothing more than a part time amusement company. The truth doesn't care if you like it. And real friends can find the truth together by conflict, yet without undermining their loyalty. Something the plebs rarely understand, as they live in a world of submission and complacency, where the relationships are just an extension to compensate their weak ego. But hey, count your likes on facebook, and look at the amount of views of your internet posts, and have the serotonin fill your brain. That's worth living for, right? Because you need that recognition to quench the self-doubt and find re-affirmation.

Disagree. Yeah, XCOM has better storytelling for it has bigger budget to create cut-scenes and so-on. Still, lore in XCOM is kind-a "we'll mix everything stereotipical 'bout the aliens and make them all a parts of one big empire!" Pretty… common. While Phoenix Point shows much more interesting set-up, where humanity is losing not only their planet as territory, though as a biosphere that makes it possible to live at all. They see biosphere turning against them, so they are in need to evolve in at least one of the possible ways. And where they are coming at the end nobody actually knows.
