Transcript:
If you have an assessment, the health professional will assess you on all the activities in both the daily living part and the mobility part. The two parts are scored separately.
To get PIP you need to score a minimum of 8 points on either part. Depending on your score, you may get one part of PIP, or you may get both parts, or neither.
For the daily living part, you will not be awarded PIP if you score below 8 points.
If you score between 8 and 11 points you will get the standard rate, and if you score 12 points or more, you will get the enhanced rate.
For the mobility part, you will not be awarded PIP if you score below 8 points.
If you score between 8 and 11 points you will get the Standard rate, and if you score 12 points or more, you will get the Enhanced rate.
After an assessment, the health professional will send their report to the DWP. A PIP decision maker will then consider all the information in your ‘How your disability affects you’ form, your supporting evidence and the health professional’s report.
The PIP decision maker will then write to you to explain their decision on your PIP claim. The letter will also tell you how many points you got for each activity at the assessment.
If you get PIP, it is usually paid every four weeks. PIP awards are usually for a set period of time.
We review PIP awards to make sure you are still getting the right amount of PIP before the end of the award period, or at any time you tell us your disability or health condition improves or gets worse. You may need to have an assessment as part of the award review.
The PIP award letter tells you when your award will end and if it will be reviewed. PIP awards may be reviewed after 12 months, or any time up to 10 years.
If your disability or health condition changes in any way, the amount of PIP you get could go up, go down, stay the same or stop.
Before a PIP review, you will get a letter and the form ‘Award review - how your disability affects you’. You must fill in the review form and return it within one month.
Your PIP payments will continue during the review process. If you do not understand our decision on your PIP claim, or your PIP review, then you, or someone who has the authority to act on your behalf, can ask us to explain the decision we have made.
If you do not agree with our decision on your PIP claim or award review, you can ask us to look at the decision again. This is called a Mandatory Reconsideration.
You usually have one month from the date on your decision letter to ask for Mandatory Reconsideration. You can provide more information if you think it may not have been considered.
When we have looked at our decision again, you will get a letter with our Mandatory Reconsideration decision. We will tell you what we have decided and why.
Sometimes we change our decision and sometimes it stays the same. If you still do not agree with the Mandatory Reconsideration decision, even if it has changed partially, you can appeal it.
If you appeal the PIP decision, an independent tribunal will look at the decision again. Sometimes they change the decision, and sometimes it stays the same.

You can also get help and advice from organisations such as Citizens Advice or your local support organisations.
