Due to the low profile of those Barbbary ships, they are quite hard to hit from a close distance (as shown above). You barely tickled the guy. If he was farther away, that would have probably torn him in half.
Depending on how you see it, had that ship used actual people and not ghosts to row the ship (Empire Total War logic) it would be rendered imobile as the rowers would be reduced to red paste. Plus the early game canister spreads on all directions as soon as it exits the cannon (Unrealistic ETW moment) so its best (in my experience) to use it close range rather than mid-max range of the canister. Somehow the same thing does not happen to land based canister. (Again Empire Total War logic) Annyway thx for the comment! 😉
The removal of naval battles from the Total War series was primarily due to several factors: 1. **Resource Allocation**: Developing and maintaining naval battles required significant resources. Creative Assembly (CA) decided to focus their efforts on improving land battles, which are more central to the gameplay experience¹. 2. **Player Feedback**: Many players found naval battles challenging and less enjoyable compared to land battles. This led to a high rate of auto-resolving naval engagements, indicating that players preferred to skip them². 3. **Complexity and Variety**: In historical titles, ships were relatively similar across factions, making it easier to design naval battles. However, in games like Total War: Warhammer, the factions are highly diverse, requiring unique ship models and mechanics for each faction. This would have been a massive undertaking¹². 4. **Gameplay Balance**: Balancing naval battles alongside land battles and ensuring they were both engaging and functional proved difficult. The complexity of managing two distinct types of battles was a significant challenge². These reasons combined led to the decision to remove naval battles from recent Total War titles. Do you miss the naval battles, or do you prefer the focus on land engagements?
