As a character Gobta acts exactly like a shonen protagonist. Sure he's lazy and flighty but he's reliable in a fight and he's intuitive when it comes to learning new techniques. Gobta placing 4th in the tournament was one of the most shonen-esque ass pulls I've ever seen.

It makes sense that Gobta doesn't have to use honoriffics with Rimuru: Gobta and Rimuru are friends, in a very casual, "hang out and get in trouble together" sort of way. If they weren't both adults when they met, Gobta would've been "prince Rimuru"'s one commoner friend who hangs out with him despite the social status difference. He's the friend Rimuru can do stuff with without having to worry about being the guy in charge of the place they're doing stuff.

This was so obvious in tensura nikki. It's not that they are equals and it's obvious that he respects rimuru but he doesn't worship him the same way the others do. He's a good character both as a support and a foil.

@@candycanenee Exactly! And Tensura Nikki did its job well in showcasing things like that in Rimuru's relationships with his friends and adopted family. In a sense, Gobta is also Rimuru's whipping boy. Which is fitting, because he's the narrative whipping boy of the good guy team: if comedic pain is to be inflicted, it's almost always landing on poor Gobta. If Rimuru is behaving like a mischievous ne'er-do-well for any reason, it's almost certainly with Gobta as his sidekick (or even as GOBTA's sidekick in the endeavor), and thus when both are caught, Rimuru gets some embarassment and a light smack (because they know better), and Gobta gets the real physical punishment. I wonder if the traditional whipping boy was also a close personal friend to the noble kid he was the whipping boy for, or if he more typically was a bullied victim of said noble kid. I would think the concept works better if they're real friends and the noble cares about his friend's pain, but....

Amen to this. Tensura's creator excels in both world making and character creation. This is also the reason why watching tensura Nikki is a great thing, no matter how much hate I've seen being thrown to it for being boring.

He has survived: Shion's "cooking", Milim's punch, multiple hits from hakuro, getting launched into the air by Rimuru and Souka, literally have a tree grow right under him and many other things. He is basically invincible.

@@AnimeRumpai Yeah Rimuru said that in Vol.16. According to the LN Author's statement, the last volume will be Vol.22. So Gobta still has time to gain a Demon Lord seed... There will be lots of fighting left, giving Gobta time to fight and defeat powerful oponents and gain the Demon Lord seed, then the required amount of souls to evolve. You never know what might happen up till the end of the LN.

Man I can’t wait for the light novel to follow up as someone who knows that after this point in the cannon story won’t follow the webnovels story I feel confident to say that the ability sage isn’t weak it’s just the weaker version of what rimiru has great sage. Gobta also has a resistance of a god because: 1. He got kicked by rimuru 2. Got poisoned by shions cooking 3. Got punched by milim 4. He always get beaten up by hakurou everytime they train 5. Got caught by Shuna in the elves bar 😏 (he probably got beaten up by shuna and shion...) (he also loss a lot of blood because of his unending nosebleeds 😂) There are probably a lot more scenes when gobata got beaten up but i have already forgotten them...

So my theory is that at some point during the next volume of the LN, Gobta will have a huge arc and will become even stronger after. Then we will get another side story from the red haired goblina point of view visiting Tempest for the first time. There she will run into Gobta and fall in love with him. The end. Would be such a nice way to end his story :) Also Gobta has been one of my favorite characters in the story from the beginning. He's made me lol more times then anyone else. Highlight moment is when he was rewarded by Rimuru to be able to call him Rimuru without honorifics.

with a few exceptions unique skills are unique to the acquirer, once the soul passes on the skill is lost. It may be reborn as a different skill that is incredibly similar but the exact skill can never be recreated. If Gobta evolves Sage it wouldn't become the great sage but something else like stratigest

3:33 On rewatch, I realised that Gobta gained Poison Resistance on his first eating of Shion's food. Whereas Benimaru, who had been the Shion food tester for many years, have only gained Poison Resistance recently at time of Rimuru becoming a Demon Lord. Gobta is indeed a prodigy.

I think a fact that makes this anime/manga/novel nice is even that despite Rimuru still the peak of power in the whole story, The other characters evolves and don't stay at the same level when they are introduced , like most of those "OP main character" stories

Basically Gobta is discount Rimuru. Rimuru has mimic while Gobta has unity, Rimuru has Raphael while Gobta has False Genius. Hell he even has ultimate skill Uriel later on.

I haven't read the LN but one of the Goblin Riders I wonder about is Gobchi, (the one with the Eye patch). Cause if the eye was lost and he had received healing from on of the potions it would grow back. So either he hasn't used a healing potion which means he hasn't even gotten hurt or the eye has been healed but needs to cover it. Is it a birth defect or is it special??

if youre including things from the light novel then gobta doesnt have the first gun in that world. theres quite a few of them floating around, theyre just not common. also im pretty sure gobta was stronger than gabiru when they first met. not only did he instantly beat gabiru but he also seemed to deflect the orc (either general or commander, cant remember the rank off the top of my head) much easier than gabiru had
