Vary good video! I've been waiting a long time for this! I also heard that Sigurd is stated to be the strongest human in his mythology. "Everyone said that no man now living or ever after would be born who would be equal to him in strenght, courage, and in all sorts of courtesy," Which would make him stronger than Grettir and likely Beowulf who both have small building - building level feats.
See, unfortunately in these sagas and such, they say that of almost every single dude. In Thidreksaga they basically refer to multiple individuals (including Sigurd) as the strongest of men. Hogni, Sigurd, Thetleif, Studas, Nordian, etc., they all get that sort of treatment. Just saying "he's the strongest of all men" doesn't mean anything in these sagas, it's better to refer to their feats or at least narration detailing their feats/potential feats, rather than just a narration that says "he's the absolute strongest" while also giving that to multiple other characters.
@@melancholicwriter56 Well those other characters can technically just all be equal. + i don’t think Grettir is ever refered to as being the strongest so Sigurd being above him should still stand.
@@cherechesalexdaniel811 Grettir is. He's referred as such in chapter 58 and 95 of his saga. Not that I think Grettir is stronger than Sigurd/Siegfried. Grettir's biggest feat iirc was fighting Glam. Meanwhile, Sigurd makes the own armour he's wearing explode just by breathing heavily in volsung saga, one shots Starkad (this gigantic part-jotunn dude) in Norna-Gests þáttr, and in thidreksaga kills Fafnir by beating him with a log. Meanwhile Siegfried in the Nibegunlied kills 12 giants, kills an army of 700 in one sitting, and so on. Hell, in the volsung saga it's stated that Sigurd is stronger than Hogni. My point is that myths will absolutely throw out "this guy is the strongest, this weapon is the greatest" at any chance they'll get with no regard to their actual feats and how they compare with other individuals. Hell, Heimir's sword (Blutgang or something) is referred as the "finest of all swords" and it shatters against Thidrek's helmet (Hildegrim), and Vidga's sword (Mimung) is ALSO referred as such but splits Hildgrim in half. Simply saying "this guy is the strongest" means absolute jack. It's much better to compare their feats and judge them by that, rather than extremely unreliable narration.
Another amazing video! I hope you keep doing these! As a request, I'd like to learn about the stats of the original Robin Hood, and if you're bored with European myths, Pecos Bill would be a cool powerscale topic.
Love when Nemesis talk about Mythology/History character, his voice feels like a Story teller from ancient time but in modern time Wish he did the part 2 of "Fate Servant vs their original part". Also,Plans for talking about Kintoki or Momotaro?
Loving these mythology figures. It's so fascinating to learn more about these figures. Looking forward to seeing more of these type of videos. It's obvious that you had a blast explaining the intricacies of these myths, and I'm all for it.
Honestly, as a mythology fan I feel in the need of asking for a similar video for Fafnir, as far as I know he was known for being the strongest and bravest of the three dwarf brothers and had a really strong right arm... Yeah... Just the right one...
Right after norse/germanic mythology west African is quickly becoming my second favorite to learn about , I’m still kinda new to it so my spelling is probably off lol but the orisha esu-alegba I think is the name of the trickster, him against Anansi I think would be a good one , btw if you haven’t seen the show American Gods it’s awsome and Anansi steals the show his portrayal is well done
Wow Nemesis, ackshually my family is Germanic/Norse and as such I find this video subject HIGHLY OFFENSIVE to them because it's about a hero from their CULTURE. How dare you.
