His staff can change its size if there is someone strong enough to wield it. Not even the previous owner, a dragon king, that he defeated, was able to hold or carry it. It was there that Wukong gets his gears. His golden garb and ringed crown included. But over time, people forgot where they came from and just make stories of him already having them without telling us where they came from.
I love that this video calls it as it is. "Oh, this book? It's propaganda. Become Buddhist because of our cool monkey." Ironically, most people read this book because of just Wukong himself. He's the prime source of entertainment throughout the book, so it's not surprising when that's the main take away at the end

@The Charred One Wukong is literally immortal, a cauldron specifically used to remove immortality only made him more powerful and it also removed his remaining mortality. The Chinese novel also goes out of its way to tell you that these items he consumed granted him immortality each. On top of that by the end of the epic he achieves nirvana, which is boundlessness in Buddhism.

When I was a kid, I always watched these Sun Wukong live actions on my TV in China and I absolutely loved the character, it’s a funny character that’s op but gets limited by his own team.
Did you see Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons? Thats a pretty good movie,its technically a prequel and it uses some pretty divergent character interpretations. Sun Wukong is the primary villain. Its a lot of fun.

Sun Wukong is one of the Strongest Constellations in the story and his modifiers are “Prisoner of the Golden Headband, Most Ancient Liberator and The Great Sage of Heaven’s Equal”. Well, i don’t know if I would include Thor in that list since he is himself a god, and the strongest among them, the one person selected to be Asgards primary defender. Its much less impressive than when its done by a monkey.
There is some inconsistency with regards to his strength. At the beginning of the novel, he was strong enough to cause some damage in Heaven and even when caught, they couldn't execute him. When he joined the pilgrimage, he was somewhat much weaker (maybe 600 years buried under the five fingered mountain have atrophied his strength) and had to rely on the help of other deities when confronted with certain demons during the journey.
Is because in the journey he is not allowed to kill, he must restrain his strength and defeat his enemies without killing them, because Tang Sanzang as his master has turned him into buddhism and so they do not kill

Sun wukong is lvl 8, the jade emperor, buddha and guanying is lvl 9, and fuwa, fuxi, nuwa, and pangu are at least lvl 10 if not breaking the limit to lvl11. Plus remember that wukong was born out of a rock from nuwa.

I grew up on the story of 'Journey to the west' and I've read a lot of fiction and comics and Sun Wukong is by far the most powerful being ever created besides Tathakata himself.
I fell in love in this book. Netflix series is good, yet effects are not extra good... yet seeing Actor of Sun Wukong as he is proud and is still learning alot of stuff its hilarious.

I’m by no means an expert on Buddhism, so correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Buddhahood is becoming one with the Buddha, basically getting all of his powers.
Yes, it just splits into the 3 bodies at the end, but all buddhas keep their characteristics of their life since that's why they became buddhas in the first place.
Buddahood is essentially achieving oneness with the universe as a whole. It's the breaking of the cycle of immortality which Buddhisms states to be fundamentally painful. Once you are a Buddha (enlightened one) you are no longer reincarnated but eternal and beyond life. You are the universe and the universe is you.
Sun Wukong can clone himself and expand his yaoei to the size of a mountain and it weighs hundreds of tons, no more like millions also he has gold armor which he harassed a golden dragon and his family of smiths to get it, he made death erase his name from deathnote or something that marks when you die. Sun Wukong vs Pecos Bill would be a cool fight, especially my family's version of Pecos, Pecos in the normal mainstream folklore is actually the strongest of American folkloric figures being casually star level but my family's version of him ridiculously higher levels Like straight up has slapped the ever-loving crap out of a certain squid-faced God in a blind rage and in the process broke chains made from space and time in the process So my family's version of Bill is built different, and I just recently started properly writing down these stories for the first time to my knowledge which has been quite the task cuz it seems like every day I'm writing these down I am either reminded of one I forgot, or told a new story by a family member who has heard that I'm trying to do this
