My nephew got his young family out of Russia just before the invasion. After waiting in Georgia forever, they've finally gotten permission to emigrate to Canada and are arriving in July.

He is wrecking the russian government narrative all by his lonesome self....highly recommend his videos (they're in russian, so you have to use subtitles, but it's worth it).
What a disservice to the future of the working population in Russia, not to neglect the profound psychological impact this could have on those young people as they age and interact with citizens from other nations. I can’t see how such a heavy emphasis on a militarized society keeps them competitive in critical areas, such as technology development/advancement or medical research, that every other country has prioritized tenfold; especially considering Russia is thought to be a step or two behind in many of these critical areas.

The "Z" was the designation given to the Russian Units that were tasked with taking Kherson. They were the only ones that achieved any success. Why "Z" was used only hit me a couple of weeks ago. The units attacking Kyiv were "A" I think in the East it was "O" and in the South East it was "V". I can't remember exactly where each one was, but they were the four designations "A" "Z" "O" "V". Put them all together and what have you got. Azov. Fitting in with the Russian narrative that they were on a so called Special military operation to rid Ukraine of nazis. That is the only relevance to anything of the "Z" symbol.
"A" and "O" symbols don't exist in Russian units. "Z" is the Russian word for west (Russian: запад, romanized: zapad), to designate the Western Military District or west-bound infantry, with the "V" symbol similarly standing for the word for east (Russian: восток, romanized: vostok). South in Russian is юг, romanized: yug, where's "your O" in that word?
