Looking forward to this because I have NO IDEA who this woman is, so YOU, this video, is my primary source on... Rachel Hollis. I'm not out of the loop because I am young. I am the mom of adult children.
I was a housekeeper for several years. If one of my clients referred to me as “the lady who cleans my toilets” I would quit. Its degrading and she meant for it to be.
I live in South Africa, and have someone that work in my house 4 times a week. I have health issues so she is a heaven sent. I have never thought, thank you she cleans my toilets. Sometime's the toilets get dirty and she is not here and I clean it, it's about your attitude.
I’m a house cleaner and my client would never even talk this way about me. She views me as a beautiful angel who makes her life easier…. Not a servant who she earned through her greatness to do menial tasks for her. Gross
She stopped apologizing so hard she wrote a book about it. Her fans had to read it when she spat in their faces about her divorce and nEvEr WaS rElAtAbLe, NeVeR tRiEd tO bE
Not the point but I kept thinking "what are you doing to your toilets that you consider it such an onerous task?" She made it sound like the pinnacle of success to pay someone else to do it. If I had four kids, I'd rather have a nanny.
I've never heard of this woman in my entire life and here I am watching a 50 minute commentary video about her downfall at 3 am and going "yeah! She had it coming"
Funny how the most famous motivational speakers always talk about "coming from the bottom", and their bottom is literally a middle/middle-high class family from the suburbs.
Exactly. And if we just WORK HARD, we can be just like just them! But wait, don't compare yourself to them, because "comparison is the killer of joy"! So if you never achieve even a fraction of their success by just "working hard" then... um... uh... GO WASH YOUR FACE! or something? 🤷🏽♀️
I am a nurse, work hard to save lives but you know who is working just as hard??: The housekeeper on my trauma unit who keeps the rooms turning so we can keep the patients moving in/out. Without them, the whole thing would crash to a stop. I thank mine every day!! Interesting video, thanks for sharing!
My older friend works as a housekeeper on the trauma unit in our local hospital and does some private jobs alongside. It really is a very important job. I also thank her as much as I can, even If I dont work there. Also thank YOU for your service ❤️ nurses need more love and representation, it always seems like doctors take all of the spotlight, but without nurses like you hospitals wouldnt work either
Thank you for saying that! ❤ I was in the ER a few years ago for what turned out to be a kidney stone. I vomited with no warning. I kept apologizing to the gentleman that had to clean it up. He smiled and said “ma’am, this is my job. You worry about yourself right now, but I thank you for your concern.” They have a hard job.
OT7 ! Or high school teenagers waking up at 3:30-4 so they can have morning practice before school 😂😂. Waking up early isn’t respectable, it’s expected
The other awful thing is shes implying that the women who clean her toilets or service workers in general, do not work hard enough to deserve getting to the top. 🤦♀️
Did you expect anything else from a conservative? They simultaneously need a poor working class and to abuse that class on a constant basis for existing.
Yeah, it probably didn’t mean anything. It was something that her and her husband a while back had brought up in their steps of marriage or whatever. They referred to it as cleaning toilets so I think it’s more of a run on joke than anything else.
I was a janitor. The place I worked at was incredibly awful. Horrible management and they still didn’t call me the toilet cleaner. They at least “you’re a housekeeper and we appreciate you.” Smh
@@mrsmobsluvzbooks8558 I also have a chronic illness, somethings are out of our control and could be made to feel shame or guilt trying to “control” the illness to be positive when we don’t feel so. Actually I tried to pretend the illness wasn’t there for years and brushed it aside, this made me get about 10 times worse/ when I finally accepted it I got 10x better. Still I work hard to be just semi ok on a daily basis, and it’s still not all rainbows and butterflies. Chronic illness just isn’t that way. I am not a housekeeper but I was insulted by the way she described having a housekeeper… it’s more than “ cleaning toilets”. She meant to be condescending.
I used to work at the drybar in Austin and she would come in often. She was extremely rude every time and treated us like her servents the entire time she was in the salon. She also likes to insult women based off their appearances. She is not an inspiration, she is a nightmare.
Sorry to hear that; to be fair most celebrities you will meet in real life are either surprisingly incompetent or massive douchebags; oh and boy are some of them cheap
@@caleighivanhoe478 True I don’t lookup to celebrities anymore; instead I try to appreciate hard work that we see everyday but never acknowledge like the mailman, the cleaning lady, waiters , salon employees etc. A positive comment or nice behaviour can really brighten someone’s day
My favorite thing about these self-help people is they never actually really tell you how to do the thing they say. "Stop comparing yourself to others"... okay how? "Stop sitting on the couch and get motivated"... okay how? Like in therapy, they give you the tools and the steps to do these things maybe with medication help. But these self-help people don't give you any tools, they just... say things we already know in a motivational and hyped way. It's like therapy without any of the tools, exercises, or workbooks.
Good point..in theory we know how Thinking negatively is counterproductive, we know we need to stop being hard on ourselves, but youre absolutely right its a lot do this without any steps/guidance..

I grew up with a single mother who spent a couple of years devoted to trying to make a living off MLMs. She wholeheartedly believed she could in order to spend as much time with me as possible. We were poor to begin with and this is just not a good business model for people who don't have enough capital. But these "empowering" self-starters go around making it seem like it's achievable for everyone when it's a mix of dumb luck, actual work, and LOTS of investing. I spent a whole blazing summer under the sun handing out flyers and sticking them to car windshields and nothing paid off. Now my mother's gone and I'm a 23-year-old hoping to have a shot at some disposable income while renting an apartment and saving up for a car. I'm trying to build credit and do everything right all on my own. My mom had nothing she could leave me in terms of wealth, just plenty of life lessons and for that I'm grateful. That's real starting from the bottom.
These MLM schemes are pure scams and there are tonnes of videos on RU-vid made on this subject P.S. Yes you are starting from the very bottom which makes me respect you more buddy I hope things work out for you really well and we finally have a true self made person people can relate to
@@stephen7497 hey buddy take your fraud Ponzi scheme and leave ; crypto is and will remain a scam for ripping off people until it is regulated ; btw how’s the dogecoin investment going ?
i hope things work out for you, these MLMs are made to prey on low income people and mothers with young children as a way to get easy money, its a very disgusting practice where no one but the 1% of the company make profit
I can't say I understand what you had to go through because I was lucky that I never had to start where you're starting. But, I can guarantee you will be successful - the grit and determination you're probably developing now will produce the results that will lead to a better life
Exactly. It's like people either ignore the more problematic parts of someone or they find it out and then completely dismiss them even if they actually do some good. No one is perfect we all have blindspots and we need to be responsible for them, but idolisation doesn't allow that.
Amen! The only person we should be stans of, should be our own selves! Others - well, respect them, be inspired by them, love, like them - but this whole "make them god" thing, sucks.
As someone who lives in Utah, the kingdom of cults, Mormons and MLMs, just seeing Hollis' face is triggering. The sheer number of times the Wash Your Face book has been recommended to me here is just💀 One thing I've noticed is how many of the tactics MLMs and motivational speakers use are the same as charismatic cult leaders. It's absolutely fascinating, but also makes me sad. I've seen so many people get sucked in and swindled by the messages the people espouse and it's heartbreaking. Truly an excellent video, 10/10 would recommend.
Mormons are supremely susceptible to cults- they're in a very large one, and so these things that nonMormons find disquieting are par for the course. Its why MLMs are SO rampant here (were family! We're this support, We're here to help) all of which send my skin crawling are these super amazing promises to Mormons.
Can you imagine a place where you have the trifecta of MLMs, Mormons, and Jehovah's Wittnesses ... ... that would be the stuff of the worst possible nightmares, and almost apocalyptic ...
The minute I heard Rachel Hollis, I said "the Mormons are gonna love her." She absolutely personifies that culture. I couldn't live in it. I don't know how you do it. ~hugs
The trying to get you to cut people out of your life that aren't supportive of the MLM, religion, whatever is a gigantic red flag and cult 101. They want to remove all dissenting opinions from your life and make sure they are the only source of truth.
Mormons aren't a cult though. I used to go to church as an active Mormon. The church follows none of the usual patterns that you would see in a cult. For starters, when I decided to leave, I was not "shunned" or hounded. I was just left alone. Same thing when I decided not to pay tithing. Really odd behavior for a cult... try that with scientology. Several times people have stood up in opposition against the current prophet. No excommunications resulted in that or retaliations. Again, odd behavior for a cult.
@@khanf101 why have you been commenting on any comment relating to woc or oprah-? or just to comment on privilege or to call it "not narcissism" when it is, you can't compare some people's actions to zero self awareness
I got sucked into an MLM and paid a lot of money out of pocket, I had a bad feeling in my gut the whole time I was a part of it and finally got out. Something that I notice that just rubs me the wrong way is the specific attention to the toilet cleaning, she is not saying that she hires someone to clean her kitchen or bedroom, she states multiple times it's specifically the toilet, its like, "yeah I pay someone to specifically clean the place where I take a sh*t on every day, that's how superior and un-relatable I am".
The other motivational speaker guy was talking about having someone else clean your toilet too. It reminds me of medieval times when the royals would have peasants clean their bed pans.
That's EXACTLY it; to diminish them to only the worst aspect of their job is just fucking gross. Her money and success has completely gone to her head.
True. I wish I could afford a cleaner. Someone to scrub my shower and clean my fridge. My toilet would be far from the priority that's not that hard to clean 🤔

as someone with clinical depression the whole toxic positivity and “you choose your happiness and you control your mindset” type thing always just made me feel like it was my fault i was sick. idk it just feels extremely invalidating to hear that they think happiness is a choice cause then what, am i making the choice to be unhappy/depressed?
I admit, I'm a believer of being responsible for my own happiness and to be aware of my mindset. I have encouraged others not to fall passive... But thank you for pointing out clinical depression is far different than circumstantial depression.

I used to work at a secondhand book store and I was wondering why we had BOXES of her books stored in the back and why everyone was selling her books. This made a lot of sense now.
Why exactly is "I pay someone else to clean my toilets, are you JEALOUS" a thing? It takes like 10 seconds to clean a toilet. It's the only household cleaning task I volunteer for. It's quick. It's easy. It's not like you're in there scooping poop out barehanded. Why are we supposed to be like "Oh I want someone else to clean my toilet!" Having someone else to vacuum is what I want.
I really do hate the "you have control over your life no matter what" BS. There are some situations we have ZERO control over. I cannot control being chronically ill. I cannot control having PTSD. I cannot control the fact that other people did things to me to cause my PTSD. I cannot help being kicked out of the country because my ex husband left me and is making me homeless. I cannot control a lot of things, and claiming that the onus is on all of us to be happy and successful in the face of such overwhelming hardship, is victim blaming of the highest order.
I'm so sorry you had to go through such a tough time. I hope things get better and better for you honey. And I agree with you. The thing with that quote is that people believe it just because they're in that hyped up mindspace, usually away from home and desperate to get something out of what they paid for when they were struggling. But as soon as they get home, reality hits them again. Life is never under our complete control and toxic positivity fucks people's mind so bad that they would feel guilty in every situation even for the scars other people have left them with... I went through a phase in which I had no control over my life, I was depressed, stuck in a position I didn't ask to be in and this toxic positivity stuff fucked me up real bad because I was getting obsessed over the little meaningless things I was allowed to control and life was much more intolerable with that mindset. I was sad even when I was successful.
@Killingdance 100%, it's more of an excuse to be an asshole to others and then say "it's not my fault you're upset, you are the only person responsible for your own happiness"
She pretty good at passing on all the blame onto others She takes no responsibility at all. I'm sorry you went through all that. I hope things have improved for you.🌻
So she thinks that she's different and better because she gets up at four am? My father gets up at four am, he's a welder. Half my coworkers are up at four am to work, and I work at Walmart. I seriously can't stand this holier than thou attitude.
Srslly. Different workers sleep differently. Some People already WORK at 4am. When I was a nurseintern I had to stand up around 3am to go to work around 5 am. Now I stand up around 10 because my (currently not doable) job goes far into the night.. Her point is complete moot.
Her celebrating getting up at 4 a.m. is so insane. Many people do just that. Off the top of my head there is an actor who actually gets up at 3 a.m and stays behind long after shooting has ended at 2 a.m., he didn’t even tell anyone one of his co-stars did.
Happy you reminded that it's very hard to be happy when society isn't made for you. As a neurodivergent person myself, I can say that it's very hard and I struggle a lot with motivation since I'm not able to have a job that gives me a fair amount of money and since I have to go to school longer than others my age which also kills my motivation. I feel like I can never do what I want to in life because it'll be very hard for me to earn a fair amount of money. It's also sometimes hard to be happy when you have such sleeping problems and mental health issues that can come with autism. Trust me I am trying to be happier in life but it's also hard when it's so hard to get a therapist after you turn 18 Not saying it's impossible to be happy but it's just harder when society isn't made for you at all. It can give you lots of self hate, depression, anxiety and stress etc
I just want to say that my cleaning people do work that greatly improves my mental health. Because of the work that they do, I am less stressed, better able to work, and happier to see an organized and sanitized living space when I wake up. I can't imagine degrading people who help me so much.

I work at a nursing home where one of the main things I do is clean toilets for a living. My family is poor AF. HOWEVER, I earn $20+ an hour and I'd be making $50,000 a year in retirement if I quit today. Not to mention I'm going back to college and I make a bunch of money on the side. So as far as I'm concerned, not wanting to clean their own toilet is just more money in my pocket.

I think that is what Rachel is trying to say. It looks like luck. Or marrying the right man. Or having the right name. But it takes hard, hard hard work. If you don't want to do the work, don't expect the glory. Yes, sometimes , you might just fall into the honeypot. But, real success takes genuine work. An athlete knows. An academic knows. Only a slater thinks differently.
Love your content been binging you on my breaks and spare time for days now. I have 3 small kids im going through a divorce from a abusive husband. Im currently raising my kids alone with help from my mom. And your videos give me a little break from life. Thankyou.
Rachel Hollis : "What is it about me that made you think, I want to be relatable?" Also, Rachel Hollis : overexaggerates a Southern accent that didn't seem to come out in her earlier videos to appeal to Southern women.
I think Rachel Hollis's downfall is rooted in the fact that she believed in her own hype. She really did think she built everything herself so it didn't matter what she then said or did. But the wisest business people *never* believe their own hype and remain grounded in the story that they have woven. It's why Elon Musk is becoming more and more despised because people are seeing the cracks in who he are vs. what he says he is.
I believe this to be true. One of the wealthiest men in the world is from my city and he has put an incredible amount of time and money into charitable efforts here. He has said he only got where he did by pure circumstance and luck. He's a very humble man by all accounts and despite him having more personal wealth (even after giving a majority of it away) than most people could ever even dream about, I can't imagine him being so self absorbed and so far up his own ass as this woman is. I also can't imagine him saying this kind of degrading shit about the people who help him keep his life running smoothly (mostly because I know his personal assistant and she wouldn't have put up with it, she was a spitfire haha).
Also, something that really bugs me - why repeating again and again that the cleaning lady scrubs her toilet?! I mean, I bet that lady cleans everything, from kitchen to basement to the kids' rooms... so why repeatedly using that specific part of the house? It leaves a bad taste, she must really find that kind of work incredibly beneath herself - it's so off putting.
As a housekeeper if someobody talked about me and my work like that I would drop them. It's so degrading when in the cleaning industry we get crapped on enough
Exactly! She views it as degrading and gets off on that. "See, look at the power I have now! I can make someone do a degrading task so I don't have to." It's such a gross attitude in so many ways and house keepers deserve SO much more respect.
Her “Toilet” video is disturbing on multiple fronts. The content itself is bad enough, but the tone of voice and the look in her eyes really gives you a glimpse into her dark soul.
Honestly, I read about the controversy and what she said before I saw the actual video and kind of thought people were overreacting a little. And then I saw the video and was like girl bye.
This is literally one of the best examples of ‘pride before the fall’! In what universe did she believe that claiming the purposeful ‘unrelateability’ of what she’s selling would in any way be good for business. ‘Cause let’s be real - these people only ever sell ‘if I can do it, you can do it’.
She says shes unrelatable yet whenever she’s telling a story during a motivational speech she literally waits for the audience to give auditory feedback for her to know that what she’s saying IS relatable
Con artists tend to go after people they have little to no respect for. They see them as easy marks and they usually end up being correct. We need to stop falling for these cons and expose these vermin.
The way she claims her wins as all her and blames her fails all on her "team" really grinds my gears. Like, just own your shit like a proper human being
And I'm confused how it's the team's fault that she went on TikTok to make an ass of herself because she couldn't handle being called out by some random person
Having a housekeeper is a privilege that allows you to have a sense of calm in your home, your life, and allows greater time with your friends and family. They absolutely deserve respect.
I think it's okay to ignore haters, you just have to identify the REAL haters in your life. People who are looking out for you hate the MLM, not you. Your upline on the other hand...
@@defundhollywood3259 the people you don't want in your life aren't called "haters." thats what children call their mommy when she makes them do homework.
I think it is the "I am so much better than most people" vibe that makes her unrelatable. She is not terribly reflective, but she thinks herself qualified to give others advice. I don't think Tubman or Marie Currie rhapsodized over having someone cleaning their toilets for them. Currie lost the man she was going to marry in a tragic accident. Those who have suffered such a loss will find her relatable. I do. Tubman threw herself into the abolitionist movement. She endured the singed social conscience of her day. That makes her relatable. It appears that Hollis works hard to be rich. How nice for her. I worked hard as a teacher and loved helping my students learn. That did not make me rich, but I am proud of the work I did. Yet, I am glad for Hollis, and I don't envy her. I have had a successful career and a successful marriage. I wish her the best, but I can get along quite nicely without her advice.
Maybe because you have a brain of your own, can listen and know what you take in and don't. And I mean haha come on you are relating her to some old school women who are on a whole other level... I get it but I kinda had to laugh a little thinking that was the comparison you went for. Props!
You know it's fascinating. I spent so much on therapy that I didn't realize I could stop being depressed by willpower. Imagine that you can just choose not to be depressed. I wish I had known that before self-admitting myself to a mental health hospital. It would have saved me so much money.
"if u cant get thru the front door, go in thru window" = If you cant be bothered earning a living by providing something to society, become a con artist
"What made you think I want to be relatable?" If that wasn't bad enough, I can't get over the look in her eyes. Just pure entitlement and malice. Hollis was really stuck on herself and at the end it showed who she truly was. She's not a relatable girl like you who rose to the top. She's a wealthy woman who was wealthy in the beginning and had the right privileges to make a very profitable career. The truth is ugly and now her stuff can't be sold. Edit: Americans like the whole land of opportunity idea that anyone here can pull themselves up by the bootstraps when they have no money and be a millionaire some day. The "I did it, you can do it too" sells so well and this is what made Hollis famous, she seemed so relatable to her niche market. But when you betray your fans and show them you were selling a lie and profiting off of it, it destroyed what she was trying to get other people to believe. That they too can achieve this much success but instead she showed I'm wealthy I've been wealthy I can't be relatable to you but buy my bandaid solutions books.
I'm glad you mentioned her eyes, I can't recall ever looking into someone's eyes and feeling that talked down to and belittled. She literally exudes evil
The funniest part is that "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps!" was a phrase invented to mock the idea that you can just work your way out of poverty. It's impossible to lift your body's weight by pulling on your bootstrapes, they've literally given you an impossible task. But the rich people who the phrase was made for didn't work in heavy boots, so the metaphor flew over their head and they started saying it unironically
To those confused in the comments there is nothing wrong with having a housekeeper, the problem lies in viewing someone that helps your life be easier- as less then, because they are doing the things you dont want to do/cant do. Its not about having one, its about seeing/treating them as less.
I use to work grave yard and got off at 4am my then 3 yr old would wake up from the sitters walk .5 a mile in San Bernardino at yes at 4am so we could get the bus home if it's not hard for a 3 yr old to wake up at 4ami assume an adult could no problem
I was in the Army for 5 years and don't think I ever woke up at 4 am lol. I pulled 24-hour duty so I was up at 4 am sometimes, but I woke up at 6, the guys that lived off post usually woke up between 5-5:30.
Her bookshelf also contains only red, white, or blue books all in similar shades. That's all I needed to know to know she never was an everyday, relatable, or sane person
As a non American, this is hilarious. I can't even imagine curating a bookshelf in my country's flag colors. It's tacky. Is this how its like to be Midwestern or Southern? That sounds tiring.
I don’t think its a southern thing either I think its a “look at me im patriotic and relatable like you” thing. Since she seems to have so grip on reality.
I love this video. This is like the 10th time I’ve watched it. Watching companies and influencers/grifters fuck around and find out that the audience is Heisenberg; We are the one who knocks.
don’t feel bad about talking about her divorce. it’s not really her private/personal life anyone. she made it public by selling her perfect marriage as a motivational tour.
