Thank you for this video. It brought back many memories to an old man. Please allow me to reminisce a bit. The DL&W viaducts are 'classic'. Nicolson, Delaware River crossing, and the Vale valley, NJ. I got a kick out of seeing the Erie mile posts. I grew up, 500 feet from mile post18. River St. station(no longer exists), Erie Main line. North end of Paterson, NJ. Approx. 2 blocks from the Susquehanna. We kids called it the 'Squeeky Anna'. I remember the strings of Alco RS1s. And the new Budd RDCs. A couple of last thoughts of an almost 80 yr old. I remember the 1905 K1 Pacifics on Erie commuter trains. Rode behind them often to Jersey city. And, lastly, it seems funny now, late in my life, that the New York, Susquehanna and Western RR, has it long lasting second name, and I think all of the rest of the major RRs of the NE are gone. Along with their well know historic corporate names. Thank you all for putting up with an old man.

Very entertaining video Trains21. Loved all of the locations and all of the info you put into the video. Very interesting how the NYSW units are numbered. I didn't know that! Pretty cool. Also that SU-100 lashup was outstanding...living close to the origin point for the SU-99, I've railfanned it many times (only have gotten the 100 once) and even I have never seen that many units on the train. Unfortunately this time of year it's difficult to railfan the 99, even if they depart on time, it's still dark out. In time I'll be watching more of these How Railroad Work videos, I'm very impressed.

Thanks, Scott.. I'm glad you liked it.. I saw that you have some new stuff up that I have to check out tonight or tomorrow but in regards to what you said, catching that train was an accident!.. Here's the story.. We were actually on our way OUT of Bingo when my friend spotted it in a trench.. I completely missed it but that's as far as it went, we had no intention of catching it.. About a mile or so down the road, I noticed a cab and two men at a crossing and immediately new that a crew change was taking place there.. Since I didn't see the train prior to its arrival at the crossing I was completely blown away by that 7-unit lashup.. Even more so when I heard those big 60s takeoff! To this day, it's one of my luckiest (surprise) catches ever!! As you pointed out, those trains are hard enough to catch at all, much less with a lash up like that one had!

Thanks Darrell!.. I'm impressed.. All 7 episodes!.. That's about 5 hours worth of video.. I'm honored that I could hold your attention that long (lol!).. The Williamsport area is one of my favorite areas.. As I'm sure you know, the 10A and 11A now go up and down the Sunbury.. I'm planning another video video exclusive to the Williamsport/Lock Haven area.. Maybe you could help me with that.. Give it some thought.. I could use some help with the industries and culture of the area.

Thanks for this! I tried to railfan in Binghamton last year (November 2021), but I didn't see much movement. I did check out a few areas that were in your video (from afar, the former CP yard, now NS, along the river on the south side of Bingo & areas in "downtown" Bingo by the baseball park) and got to see parked auto racks up close for the first time (I didn't realize how tall they were). I think I need to drive up to Bingo from Scranton on the local routes next. Oh, and every time I see a CROWLEY container anywhere else in the world, I think of that old factory along Conklin Ave (timestamp 49:53 in this video)! Good times.

Awhile back a 78 car train broke down on the hill out of Scranton. There was no power at Binghamton or Taylor to replace it with because a SD70 shut down and was having serious issues. NS made the call to DL stating not to shut down the alcos because if they can’t get that unit back up in 30 minutes they would back up past the interchange and put 3 alcos leading since they have NS radio and full tanks. They were gonna take the alcos to Binghamton and back

I know its a little bit of a ride, but if you get the chance, would you consider doing one of these for the NS Harrisburg line from Harrisburg to Reading? It's the line I live on and I still have no idea what train is what and how to identify the symbols (except H33). Its an ex Reading line and there's lots of old stuff on the line, especially near Lebanon. The old Reading Lebanon Station and the Cornwall and Lebanon Station are literally a few hundred feet apart here. Hell, my local bank has a bunch of pictures on their wall from the Reading railroad's heyday. They even have an old coal scoop hung on the wall!

Usually the engine and/or body type but there are sometimes smaller differences (e.g.) SD40/SDP40/SD40-2/SD40T-2 The SD40 was the standard (Special Duty) locomotive EMD introduced around 1966 The SDP40 was for passenger service The SD40-2 improved on the origianl SD40 with better trucks and electronics The SD40T-2 (Tunnel Motor) had a modified cooling system for use in the western states with long tunnels

I'm from Kansas and basically only get to railfan the UP which sucks so seeing some of what you guys have out East, especially the short lines, is really awesome. But I do have to say this is more of a railfan adventure, a very good one to be sure, but it doesn't explain much about how railroads actually operate.
