I wish they run all the emd more often. Even the large class emds. I'm a huge fan of emds!!!! I hate seen them sit and wasting away. And plz bring back the sd 45!!!!!!
Having grown up in Schenectady, ALCO locomotives were a part of my 1950s-1960s life at the northern end of Erie Boulevard. The massive GE plant was at the other end. I turned down an ALCO job (thankfully) and went to work and retired 42 years later from GE. What those huge engine shop grounds ended up as is not nice. Currently there is an office building replacing an interim hokey strip mall, an empty lot but was a hotel for a few years and *gasp* a large gambling casino and marina. I've only knowingly traveled on one train with a steam locomotive - Durango and Silverton narrow gauge sightseeing train in Colorado - but never a diesel.
The EMD SD40-2 is my favorite diesel-electric locomotive. I'm trying to learn as much about this amazing diesel-electric engine as I can. Can anyone enlighten me on the difference between the SD40-2 and the SD40T-2? Is the SD40T-2 a "special duty" version of the SD40-2? What does the "T" in SD40T-2 stand for? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide on the AWESOME SD40-2.
There's no comparison. EMD are far better units, in that they aren't prone to randomly catching on fire. No matter how 'good' or 'clever' your product is, if its on fire, when it shouldn't be, its of not much use.

It is funny watching all these railroaders complain incessantly about PSR when those same railroaders were calling me a “foamer” for saying PSR is going to ruin railroading in America more than the interstate system ever has.
Same mess as in my town. As far as I can tell for many of these folks, it's their choice to live this way. The rapidity with which they can discard trash is breathtaking. I saw an odd sight recently along the spur line right-of-way-a metal shopping cart rolled up into ball the size of a beach ball. Pretty darn spherical, too. It must have rolled along under the locomotive for some distance to become so round.
Jim that was my experience as well in Amsterdam. The construction companies pay artists to paint the scaffolding panels there to remove the ugly from construction sites

The design of the first bilevel coach dates back to the original manufacturer, Hawker Siddeley hence they were in the passenger car manufacturing business. When they entered into financial difficulties, they were purchased by the Province of Ontario and became UTDC - Urban Transit Development Corporation. This was necessary to guarantee the supply to GO Transit of high capacity coaches that didn’t require longer platforms to meet increasing ridership demand. The taper on the ends of the roofs were to accommodate future electrical pickup equipment. At some point Bombardier acquired UTDC and their brand was added to the newer versions of these bilevels. Older cars have Hawker Siddeley, Hawker Siddeley/UTDC or just UTDC builder plates on the inside wall or end doors.

Here in Australia we had 2 versions of the SD 40. In Western Australia, the L class, not sure how many, but a few, some are still around, but a lot have been scrapped, and in Victoria, the C class, only 10 were built, and all 10 are still working. They were built by Clyde Engineering. They were shorter and lighter, due to some weight and dimension problems. But a much revered locomotive here in Australia.
When people stop viewing graffiti as “art” and call it what it is - vandalism - maybe there will be some consequences for the perpetrators. Simple rule of thumb… if it’s not yours, hands off. I watch a fair amount of rail videos and I see a lot of graffiti on the sides of train cars. Why? There’s no reason for it.

When I was a kid in Detroit in the 60s-70s. My neighbor worked at Grand Trunk GTW, got to ride on Alco switcher. And when I’d go to the team track with my dad at Penn Centrals Livernois yard got ride on SW 9. Loved sitting there watch cars roll down the hump.

From WC, Graffiti is everywhere, even on the good looking passenger trains in “Law and Order” Germany that now has the highest crime rate in Europe thanks to more than 1,000,000 Illegal aliens in a 80,000,000 person country! People in to help them (to all the things we citizens of the USA worked so hard for since our country was founded 250 years ago! And yes we had millions come in to help build our country, my wife is one of them from Germany, that brought up 3 hard working kids to help build up our country even more! Nice to see: Passenger carriges being delivered, likely for commuter-rail and adveryising, by tag-alongs with freight train. As to grafitti and vandalism on rail cars: If recall well my older aunts & uncles mentioned they first saw graffiti, vandalism on rail cars on buses, urban subway, commuter, passenger, and freight cars in NYC, NY, NJ, PA in late 1960s on.
In the UK .. we call them : Bomm- barr - di - A ... ( @ their factory in Derby , England ) ... and ... as for ( street art , graffiti ) ... at least it helps stop some RUST on the cars ( ? ) ....................... DAVE™🛑
Graffiti has become prevalent now in a lawless society created by soft on crime idiot liberals and liberal DAs. Just one of many reasons I no longer photograph trains. I miss the days of no graffiti and consists with no damned widecab GE junk. Those things have the same appeal as a fresh dog turd.
