i think the reason why you find more infjs even though they're the said most rarest type is bcz infj are also the type to be most likely to be interested in mbti and personality types which makes that people who talks about or tell you about their own mbti happens to be infj

Can people just accept that their type is common? there isn't anything wrong with it. You don't have to be quirky. Its just statistics. Don't let it decide how important you are.

INTP is low at 3.3%. No wonder every time I try to talk to people about physics, psychology, economics, or anything I'm interested in, most don't seem to get engaged. There are only three people I've met so far that I've managed to get along with very well so I had them take the test too, two were both INTPs like me, and the other was an INTJ.

Every time I see something about how rare each personality is, I remember the phrase "it's kind of nice that ENTJs correspond to a small percentage of the population". Well, it's hard to introduce yourself as ENTJ without people thinking you're some kind of villain or a rich person.

I remember when I was typed as an INFJ. Being a rare type doesn't really mean anything. You understand who you are more and why you are what you are but being an INFJ has been an isolating experience. I'm always at the fringes of everything, and I just mold myself to fit along with whatever "character" I have to play day by day.

Apparently INTJ females though are the rarest type overall when you account for gender. I feel alienated as an INTJ male so I can only imagine how a female INTJ feels

It can actually be so tiring being an ENFJ. I'm in a constant state of recharging my social battery because I'm just a natural people pleaser lol. On top of that, because empathy is massive with us, people are always coming to me for advice on their problems and man, absorbing all those feelings isn't fun :( PSA for anyone out there - If a friend ever says that they're more introverted than extroverted, PLEASE believe them. It sucks being misunderstood as a social butterfly all the time when in most cases, I just want to stay at home doing my own thing.

As an ENFP, I know that most % of our type are women, so as a male I feel quite rare, but would like to meet more male ENFP to make life more intresting

That's one of the problems with Myers-Briggs. "Everybody" wants to be: 1. the RAREST type (so they can feel "special") 2. an INTP or an INTJ (so they can feel "smart") or 3. an ENTJ (so they can be "in-charge" and give orders). No one!-- ever says: " Hi, I'm one of the 2 most common Types. I'm pretty-darn common and ordinary and I couldn't be happier about it." NO ONE!

As someone who is in the INFJ group (or even people from ENFJ/TJ), It might sounds special since you are in a very rare category but it just meant that less people would understand you and it is frikkin hard to socialize or make friends with people.

So, INFP here, and a math major. Stats........I don't trust. The math behind it is fine, but it's everything else about it I don't trust. The gathering of data and interpretation of it, not to mention the way it typically gets presented--which is usually in a technical sounding title meant to mislead the general population that doesn't understand math. It does seem very odd that INFJ would be the rarest, considering I-F-J were all more common in the letter stage. In fact, it seems even more strange that ISFJ be most common and then INFJ be least common. (The ISFJ did make sense as being most common considering every letter in the type was also more common) If anything, it would make more sense that ENTP be the least common. I would be a lot more interest in Frank showing the commonality of the cognitive functions rather than the letters, seeing as he did mention the NJs were least common. Also, I am curious how the data is gathered. Given we already know people mistype themselves on tests, makes me wonder if the data is skewed.

i'm so conflicted because on the one hand, i really enjoy quirky videos about mbti that make me laugh, but on the other hand i recognize in myself the urge to do something to mbti like people have done to astrology. i find these videos so funny but also need to use this tool to become a superhero. these videos are like a relief from the hard work of looking inward. i guess people want to put infj on a pedestal because they're so rare, but in actuality i think it's kind of just...being excited to be different. there's nothing wrong with it, but when i learned i was infp, i immediately started commiserating with other infps about how i 'just dont belong' and 'everyone is mean' but then i started thinking about it and i don't need advice from other infps. it's not enough to have an excuse for habits that don't help me. i need to do more research and stop aggrandizing personality types as if they're greek myths or something. being an infp doesn't elevate me. if you're reading this rambling comment i am so so sorry and thanks. have a nice day happy learning

An interesting thing to note is that all this data is at least 20 years old, which means most of the audience watching this video will have been too young to be in this dataset. I wonder how the latest generation differs, but it's hard to do general population tests (we could do a poll here, but it will only be people who watch personality type videos, which will skew the results massively).

When I was typed as an INFJ by my therapist and psychologist, It was like comforting and frustrating at the same time. Like, It's good that it helps me understand myself more and things appear to make more sense, but it's frustrating to realize that it's also part the reason why I really struggled. I also think that the rarity thing doesn't matter because the main purpose of mbti is to learn about the personalities and for self growth. To be a healthy INFJ is what's important to me.

As an ENTP I wish we could be less rare, 2.15625x times more common to be precise... not because there needs to be more ENTPs out in the world, but because I wish our percentage was 6.9% instead of 3.2%

As an INTJ, I'll let you know we aren't so rare anymore! Makes me glad because INTJ always try to break the mold of thinking and question the status quo and like moral ambiguity and difficult discussions, which means I've been finding more people like me who like having critical discussions instead of following indoctrinated ways of thinking, while also not being accusatory about it. Not to say other personalities aren't like this, but I find INTJ, INTP, ENFP and ENTP people to be more engaged in morally ambiguous discussion

I think the population of each type depends on where it is located. I mean, maybe country like USA will have more Se users and Ni users will be less, in artist comunity there will probably be fewer Si dom But when we talking about globally, I won't believe anything data until all people in the world take the test and learn about it I'm sorry for my bad english and great video like usual, Frank :) Edit : But just making theory about it seems fun too

By the time I was 17 I started my own business, won miss Washington jr teen, was Sargent of my police explorer platoon (also only girl) and took home 7 first place medals in figure skating ( and had professional skates within a few years) so you could say I care about success and goals. I have always been a natural born leader, organized, good at communicating, and very analytical. I’ve been manager at sales jobs. And I have jumped in and saved people’s lives more than once, I take the fight in flight or fight. And I’m very in tune with my body

Bruh, ENTP being among the 5 "rarest" types of personalities makes so much sense to me, because all my life I've felt that nobody really understood me, and that I had to go to great lengths to explain my way of thinking in an attempt to make myself understood. I think a lot of the people who have a dominant intuition might struggle with feeling misunderstood, since S dominates the top and N dominates the bottom. *I definitely thought my personality type would be a lot more common though!*

The NJ paradigm seems to be pretty interesting. I'm an INFJ and wish very much I could flip that I to and E. With considerable effort I can display some extroverted qualities, but it's exhausting. It's not a mode I can just relax in or keep up. One of the reasons why I try to overcome it is is my attempts to take concepts I feel out in physics and apply them to the standards of communication in that science. But it's also difficult. I can visualize in my mind how electromagnetic fields interact with any common object by projecting what I know about the shape and material properties, but my ability to express that mathematically is difficult, but I do my best to put it in terms that are congruent with Maxwell's equations, but from what I've seen that trying to express what invisible fields do in any format is difficult for most of the population to understand.

Wait a second.... I did the MBTI test about a half year ago and the result was ISFJ. Yesterday I did it again and now it is INFJ. This means that I have moved from the most common one to the one with 1.5% in the population. Wow.. that‘s weird.

I feel like the problem with this kind of data is that it's incredibly difficult to prove it correct. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing these statistics are either based on the results of tests or from polls directly asking people. The results of either are dubious at best, as personality tests are infamous for being an inaccurate way of typing yourself, and the overwhelming majority of people use these to find their type. I wouldn't put too much stock into the supposed rarity of your type, as it's unlikely there's an accurate way to measure it.

Those statistics may be interesting but, as it's pointed out in some comments, they belong to the previous generation. I also have some questions about the "general population" as I find hard to believe that countries that barely have been introduced to MBTI lately would be able to give proper data...And each culture has different customs and that affects their personality. So, it may differ around the world. For example, I live in a country almost everyone around is an Extrovert, apparently Sensing is nothing they have to do with and they definitely Perceiving. I am an ISFJ and in my place I feel like an actually rare type, surrounded by ENFPs and ENTPs.

although some personalities may be more rare than others and you may feel special being one of it. It can actually be incredibly lonely and isolated 90% of the time. for many people, they never grow out of that and can become stuck and depressed. be fluid and adaptable to your environment and change with time. dont let your personality test dictate your entire life and stop you from doing things you desire. speaking from personal experience :)

Yea, I know ISTP females are horrifyingly rare. I'd guess it's possibly the rarest female personality type because I don't think i've ever met one. If I have met one, they don't know that's what they are. S types in general are probably pretty lopsided in terms of percentages among females. If I had to guess NF types would probably be the most common for females. I don't know about guys though because we tend to go all over the place.

I noticed a lot of people in the comments talking about different cultures and how certain types may be more common or preferred there and I can totally see that. Curious to hear about other people's observations and assumptions, these are mine. USA (I live here)- SJ's are the most common and preferred. The least favorite type is probably like an ISFP. Si and Te seem to be preferred functions. I think the American workplace is very Te and judging, but family dynamics give off an Si kind of vibe. People that are overly sensitive, not fast or innovative, perceived as lazy, or too much of a pushover seem not to be liked too much. Common saying, "Work smart, not hard!" or "Be a leader, not a follower." Mexico (More than half the population in my city is from here or has parents from here)- ESxPs are the most common and preferred. INTPs and INTJs the least. Se and living in the moment seems very appreciated and simply having fun with family and friends is valued. Music, dancing, physical affection, cooking and eating are all big parts of life as much as working with practicality. The flexibility of Ti also seems appreciated. A common saying I find that summarizes the social culture, "La vida es demasiado corta!" (Life is too short) People that are overly stoic, stuffy, unsociable or arrogant don't seem to be liked that much. Japan (Half of my family is from here)- ISFJs are common and preferred. In general SJ and NJ types are liked. The least favorite is probably like an ENTP. Japanese culture enjoys being generic and fitting in. Fe is very valued as well as intuition in general because these skills helps you to 'read the atmosphere'. Being blunt, combative or grandiose is frowned upon. People take time to understand and study each others inner feelings/desires and the intense admiration of 'crafstmen' seems very Si to me. Common saying,” 空気を読む” (read the atmosphere) In general, I believe though that some types are rarer than others. Like for example, while an INTJ may have it a bit easier in Japan than the US, they would still be considered 'different'.

Hey. INTJ here. I've been interested in these tests for a bit just due to natural interest. Although the data could very possibly be false or skewed, I find it very interesting nonetheless. I don't have much else to say, really...although, it seems as if when my mood changes(AKA whenever I get nervous or scared) my personality can flip to a hyperactive, nervous wreck! So, that's fun to think about.

The issue with these tests is certain data will be skewed from so many dishonest people.

I feel like they need to attempt to re-survey with new and bigger studies, because most sites have been using the same statistics for years and it can’t be the same at all times.

I saw in the comments that someone would like to know what personality type is interested in MBTI. Considering that ENFJ's are only 2 percent of the population, I have seen a much larger percent of ENFJ's commenting to this article. Being an ENFJ myself, I am intensely interested in how people react to situations. My favorite books and movies are based more on character development than action or plot development.
