Marvel fans, it's been a few days since RDJ was announced to return to the MCU as Doctor Doom, and now we must start asking the hard questions. I think the scenario I would like the best is Doom taking over the body of Tony Stark. It has a lot of room for fun and movie magic, while still being actual Victor and not just an evil iron man

Well... Tony Stark in the MCU has done most of the things that Dr Doom has done in the comics (i.e. wearing an "armor", create an army of robots, invent "time travels") so it would be straightforward to simply say "hey, this is an evil variant of Tony Stark". And it can easily work: let Howard Stark, his wife and his infant Tony fly over Europe on an airplane and let that airplane crashland in an isolated town of East Europe and Tony be the only survivor, be adopted by a Romani family and grow up in Latveria with the new name "Victor Von Doom". There you have your origin story that still sticks with the comics! 😀

Plus, they can definitely do what they did in the "Doomsday" storyline from the Ultimate universe (not a case they might have chosen that title for the movie): in that storyline, the Ultimate universe is menaced by the Maker (that is indeed some kind of Ultimate version of Dr Doom) but then it is revealed that the Maker is no other than a "scarred" Reed Richards. Well, Marvel can do pretty much the same thing, replacing the Maker with Dr Doom indeed and making him a scarred version of Tony Stark (maybe from another universe and called Victor Von Doom).

I can see him being a victor von doom that arrives with the f4 but loses them once he arrives in our universe. He learns of Tony stark and learns he looks just like him. Manipulates our heroes into thinking he is him. Gains access to Starks technology then it goes from there. It’ll kinda work in a way like in invincible when the audience knows that Omni man is not a hero but the characters in the movie have to discover it. They just need to do it right. It’ll probably be the F4 that’ll raise suspicion as they know what Doom is like.

With that Demon in the Armor storyline they could make an interesting Armor Wars movie. Have Doom stealing Stark Tech and Rhodey dies trying to stop him.

hypothetically if after Tony snapped in endgame he got so much scaring on his face and body damage he couldn't live with himself being so weak or show his new face to his daughter so he runs and hides in latveria to start a new life and through his pain physically and mentally he unleashes his anger determined to erase all things Tony Stark so he can finally in his corrupted mind create "peace in our time" which leads to the eventual rise of the doctor doom we are more familiar with. but note that im not saying this will happen in the movies all this just a creative fan fiction.

I was thinking this right when I walked out of a movie theatre after watching Endgame. I also thought that the contact with the Stones expands his mind to understand magic. Victor Von Doom will be the name that he creates, like Rabum Alal in comics Secret Wars. To create almost a religious masked figure. We will probably think that this is just Victor played by RDJ, or a variant who calls himself Victor. But the truth in the end with shatter everyone - this is our 616 Iron Man!

Ooo.... Great theory! After all, Dr Doom is a mix of magic and tech. They could use that in a way where the real physical DD is the actor that will be him after Secret Wars. He's just using Tony's body until he's ready to make his debut (next saga) as our next big bad.

I think they'll go with the body swap explanation. I think Doom shows up and everyone is shocked when he looks like Tony. Doom explains that as his universe was being destroyed, him and Tony were fighting and Doom was fatally wounded. He then explains how he took over Tony's body and was able to leave that timeline.

I've got it! The best option is number 3. They'll do a body swap and yes, it may be weird for the audience, but check this out; Imagine seeing Cillian Murphy portray Tony! Imagine him trying to convince people (in a new universe, mind you) that he is Tony Stark trapped in the body of a villain. This way, we will still get Cillian Murphy. We will still get Doom's full back story (bc eventually every villain monologues). And we will still get the interaction between Tony's face and the people who know it. Boom!

You’re missing the simplest option. RDJ is Victor Von Doom from another universe, he just looks exactly like Tony Stark. That way you don’t leave any “flavor on the table” and we still get pure Victor Von Doom. See, not that complicated.

Pretty obvious marketing tactic and not even a good one imo, just makes things feel convoluted. @@deletdelet6532 I honestly thought that Dr. doom was going to be the main bad all along. I thought he would defeat king in King dynasty back when that was still a movie for the avengers and then in secret wars, he would have a team of bad guys that the avengers would beat just to have to face a bad team of the original avengers. I thought at some point Loki would find a way to pull the original avengers in the third act and to help the new team win. What I didn’t expect is for them to take the actor who essentially made the MCU famous and say he’s a completely different bad guy that has nothing to do with the character he played before. Even if it’s a variant, then that means they’re not doing Dr doom right. I was also excited to see the new X-Men team with younger vibrant actors and it looks like I’m not gonna get that either. Someone will have to explain to me what the point of buying fox was if they’re not gonna ever have the original avengers with, an X-Men team that we all know

It just all seems so quick! I don’t mind RDJ being Doom but we still haven’t seen Strange again or Shang Chi or the scarlet witch. Wouldn’t their projects connect to phase 6 as well? I just hope they can keep the MCU Connected as it once was. I feel there should also be a scene where Doom obliterates the council of Kangs to show that they never were the main big bad. Ignoring that post credit scene of Ant Man just doesn’t work for me.

In ENDGAME when Tony meets his father in the past, he asked Howard when his child is due. When Howard mentioned the approximate due date, Tony looks a little confused. What if, Howard's baby dies and the Starks, to keep up appearances, adopt ( under the table) a newborn from Latveria who is in fact Victor Von Doom. Somehow Tony learns of his parents deceit, and feeling betrayed, denounces being a Stark and takes back his real name and becomes the opposite of EVERYTHING his father stood for. The hatred for his father ( who may of done the swap without his wife even knowing) would be the spark that would eventually light the fire of DOOM. Seems about as logical/creative solution as any.

I think they should take inspiration from phantom of the opera. Make Dr Doom a torn villain similar to the phantom. A variant of iron man but instead iron man accidentally snaps away some of his closest avengers that failed him in saving a character like say “spider man, spiderman died and he has to live with it” so spiderman being the anchor being changes all of iron man’s future path and iron man can have prosthetic from being fried by the infinity gauntlet. he then goes on a revenge arc and becomes dr doom after meeting up with scarlet witch as a different unrecognizable person. but towards the end of secret wars he reveals his identity and becomes more like a loki type character

I got bets on, Tom's Spider Man sees the villain Dr. Doom somewhere in the final act. Doom takes the mask off and reveals it's Tony's face, that confuses the crap out of Spider Man, even activates his spider sense on 1000 then Doom decks him a suplex clear into the void to wait till Secret Wars and we get a to be continued kinda ending before the post credit scene.

What I'd want to see personally (and i don't know much about comics or the character of Doom, only a marvel movie fan) Pedro Pascal's Reed in the F4 movie next year, well he and a Tony Stark variant from that F4 movie universe were buddies, eventually having Stark Industries finance the F4's mission but with time it's revealed that this Tony Stark is much different from 616, he starts showing manipulative tendencies, he starts looking for more and more ways to improve his tech to the point where he becomes insane... he gains a lot of power but he loses everything and hides behind an iron mask, creating a new identity for himself and now looking for ways to have revenge on other timelines. That's what I'm picturing. And as for the potential conflicts with Tom Holland Spidey seeing him. I'd LOVE to have a scene where maybe Spider-Man has the chance to kill Doom but seeing how it's Stark he gets weak and doesn't have the strength to kill someone with the face of his mentor. Maybe that moment of weakness from Spider-Man is what makes the Avengers lose in Doomsday... And when Spider-Man gets the symbiote in the next movie, in SECRET WARS like the comics debut of the suit, the symbiote takes over and he's MUUUCH more aggressive.

They said on stage he was going to be Victor Von Doom, and that's who he should be. Making him evil Iron Man would do what people are complaining about and ruin the ark our Tony had, because even if you make him the most evil version of Iron Man, people will say "well they brought back RDJ Tony but made him bad because the MCU cant exist with out him and Iron Man😠" He needs to be Victor Von Doom so RDJ can be sewn as his own entity away from Iron Man, and that is simultaneously the only way to give us the best version of Doom. Not bringing the real Victor to the screen would be an injustice to both characters.

Tony in the comics was adopted by Howard and Maria, and they could bring that to the movies. In the MCU, perhaps he is the son of Werner and Cynthia Doom (Dr Doom's parents in the comics) Maybe they died when he was a baby and Doctor Doom comes from a universe where his parents didn't die when he was a baby and was never adopted by the Starks. And he grew up as Viktor von Doom and became Doctor Doom just like in the comics

I think the best way to go about it with Dr doom and Peter Parker is have Dr Doom know that Peter Parker’s mentor Tony stark looks like him in that universe. So he uses that to his advantage and gets Peter Parker by himself and makes him think that he’s Tony stark and manipulates him into helping him with his plan. Then later Peter finds out it’s not Tony stark and it’s just a crazy F***ing moment.

I think they will adapt the demon in an armour storyline. Because in one universe Tony was so successful that he created the time machine and all. That universe victor has seen tony's potential and decided to switch his body and later kill him . After that doom destroyed his family and their universe avengers. After that he discovered the multiverse and its potential and went on to become god emperor doom . And who knows he might have an army of ultron bots to conquer the multiverse .

Disney needs the lead up movies to be awesome for the Avenger movies to work. Confidence is low at this point for them to do this. If they were good the past few years they wouldn't have needed RDJ.

There's an option 4 that already ties in with not just the early info on the new F4 movie but ALSO Captain America: Brave New World. Earth-5012 and Iron Maniac. In that universe, Reed makes a mistake that causes the death of a bunch of heroes during a fight against Titannus. Tony becomes disillusioned with Reed, fights him, and eventually gets banished to Earth-616 by Reed-5012. Tony is then captured by SHIELD where he is in prison with a robot decoy clone of the villain Diamondback whooooooooo is a member of the Serpent Society. And who did Giancarlo Esposito just reveal is coming to New World Order? Yep - Serpent Society. So the Tony in this story breaks down this decoy robot and turns it into a suit of armor. So all that being said, I think Tony-5012 will appear in the F4 movie, and Reed will make some mistake that causes a bunch of people to die to Galactus - perhaps Pepper and Happy? So Tony doesn't end up as a Von Doom varient, and he doesn't get body swapped. He's a Tony Stark that becomes Dr. Doom, or specifically Iron Maniac. This gets you your evil Tony AND Dr. Doom in the MCU.

Iron-Man was good because of the story and character. RDJ is a good actor, and he magnified that. If the film's plot and characters is not good, even a good actor can only help so much. Hopefully Marvel improves on the most important parts as well.

I think he's going to be a version of tony stark that ends up with the name victor von doom (probably from the fantastic 4 movie) and ends up in the main mcu universe. But after secret wars (or maybe even during) there will be a different actor that plays a traditional dr doom going forward

What if Dr. Doom escaped the 1960s F4 reality to end up in the 616 universe only to have been the MAIN villain pulling ALL the strings with magic this whole time? MAYBE He also plays a part in all the Incursions going on. Perhaps he seeks out Tony's body as a host because of his intelligence aka his Brain. How cruel...That's the villainy of Dr.Doom for ya! It's hinted that in these MCU movies, their reality can be tweaked and messed with. Especially at the end of the Loki show. Perhaps Doom also wants to use magic to alter reality and wants Tony's brain to try to one-up Reed Richards? His motivation could be to save someone...If any of you read 'Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom Triumph and Torment' Him and Dr.Strange have a lot in common with their motivations. I don't know if they tie in story arcs to make it all make sense. But if they pull it off this way I would be mindblown.

I think it will be a combination of options 1 and 2. It will be a mostly true to comics Victor Von Doom, but it will be stated that he is a variant of Stark. If you look back at how different variants are in the MCU you will see that it’s possible. Victor Timely for example is a Variant of Kang, that looks just like him, but has a different name (Victor lol), is born in a completely different era in a completely different environment. The body swap thing would need to be shown, if it’s just a comment that states this, that won’t work in terms of a story. And showing someone else being Doom before he changes to RDJ is kind of weird and defeats the whole reason for having RDJ.

Feige is not going to let Tom Holland's Spider-Man be the anchor being of anything. Sony only allows the MCU to leverage Spider-Man in a few/select appearances outside of his own movies. They're not going to go through all that trouble for a character they can't use as much as they want to.

Doom is heavily scarred and wears a mask, RDJ is a great actor and completely capable of playing two different characters in the same universe like cable/thanos. They have already confirmed he is just playing doom, not Tony from alt reality.

Option 3 makes sense with changes of course but in the end the switch back would allow Robert to end secret wars by returning as Ironman for final show down, after soft reboot we get new iron man Doom cap widow and move on into new mcu

My theory: They will use the What If storyline where Doom takes over Tony Stark's body. Then at the end of Doomsday the heroes will get Tony's mind back in his own body and RDJ will be Tony Stark again.

There is no more tired trope than that of the evil doppelganger, and there is ZERO chance of avoiding that trope as everyone's first thought thanks to this casting. At best, they're starting at a creative deficit, with lots of baggage to overcome, but might make it work. At worst, they're leaning into Multiverse shenanigans, and will only end up staining the legacy of both characters.

I have a theory that it's not Robert Downey Jr. and it's actually Cillian Murphy. Ryan Reynolds originally had the idea to make Deadpool and Wolverine advertised as a fake buddy cop movie. It was about two cops who share a brain. but then five minutes into the movie they would have Deadpool wolverine just start playing. Ryan Reynolds didn’t go with that idea because he felt that if people found out about it even a day before it was released, it would be devastating to him. They made posters, and he was thinking about having fake film, shoots all around cities across the US with Hugh Jackman. I wonder if #Marvel loved that idea, and they are going the long game with the fake out. The only reason that this would work is because the buzz for Robert Downey Jr. is so big that no one would think it was fake.
