How reading The Way of Kings for the first time feels... (skit) 

I have had depression and suicidal attempts and I think Kaladin is mopey and whiney. I just don't go to epic fantasy for 700 pages of depression and then some action at the very end

@@Garmesispeople who are depressed can be pretty mopey and whiney- dosent mean every depressed person is but it def happens

@@pippaschroeder9660 i have had major depression and attempted s*icide 4 times. I have lost friends over being mopey. I probably understandably Kaladin at the edge of that cliff better than most. It still was annoying to spend all those pages on that. But in reality it is more a matter of taste. I don’t go to Epic Fantasy for existential and identity problems with a bit of magic sprinkled here and there. If I want to feel identified I watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Watchmen. Heck, the Gray Heavens of LotR is way more cathartic than anything in Stormlight. I also think it is hilarious how Sanderson had to jump through hoops and make all kind of convoluted tragedies to give his character mental issues. A 1 year old sister dying of cancer will do the trick. Is he really that good or is he just “hot right now”?

@@Garmesis I get that it isn’t peoples taste and not everybody wants to read a characters extensive mental health issues. I have dealt with some depression and from what I remember as a child it feels like the whole world as a gray film or is always raining, and they want people who experience the world like that to be what? Cheerful? People who are constantly sad are gonna show it in how they act

@@pippaschroeder9660 well. I was just falsifying that particular comment that implied that only people who have been depressed can appreciate the story. There is nothing wrong with the people who find that story annoying regardless of their life experiences.
