When a movie or TV show wants to film an action that it never could with a real animal, special effects artists have to come up with a convincing fake version.
Thanks to the special effects artists at MastersFX, “The Boys” season three created several infamous scenes involving octopi and hamsters. Many instances, like in “Nightmare Alley” (2021) and “The Love Guru” (2008), involve scenes that switch between a real animal and a fake version for moments that wouldn’t be safe for a real animal to do.
To make sure the switch is seamless, the artists need to focus on skin texture and blotchy skin tones while adding hair and feathers by hand. This all gets more complicated when the animals need to move on-screen. With creative thinking, an animatronic chicken can flap its wings while pieces of fishing line can stand in for CG tentacles.

I'm so glad to see how there's a blend between real and computer-generated effects. CGI is incredibly useful for things that we can't reliably represent in real life but the real models like these make them feel that much realer

Yeah because they’re gonna put a real octopus in an actors mouth, right? Makes total sense 😒
@MukulVyas5
@MukulVyas5 Год назад
@@Lvcius It's not just about octopuses mate but other animals, their skin, fur and other body parts too. Those things need not be replaced by such props but they still ensure that no animal is hurt for those things as far as practicable which is why I appreciate their efforts. But still, method actors might even prefer to do it with real animals and may even ACTUALLY use a real octopus too so I appreciate that these artists bring such precision to their props that it eliminates the need to hurt animals. Chill brother. Understand the context. No need to be apprehensive about it.

Definitely. I was about to make a joke about CGI seafood in Asian cinema, but let that be... Now, I still think animal actors mixed with practical effect shots is the best way to go. 4 come to mind that have stuck with me (mostly S. King adaptations): * more recently the zombie cat in "Pet Sematary" * the mouse in "Green Mile" * the rabid Saint Bernard in "Cujo" * the tiger in "Burning Bright" I know I know, once you learn about the sweet sauce the animals licked away after the shot it becomes funny, but still...

So where did the PELTS come from? Lol I am First Nations, and years ago, we had a group of rich kids doing volunteer work in our neck of the woods, my aunt invited them to have Indian tacos and since we were already drying some deer meat. The kids were all really eager to try dry meat. They were largely vegetarian or strict vegans. But some, not all we’re willing to put aside their belief, understanding the meat they were eating was wild, and not raised in a cage. They were all for it, then I brought out a hind quarter that still had the lower leg attached with the hooves. Some were unable to stick around during the drying process because of that. Thing is nothing is supposed to be wasted, so we also utilize the hooves, and or dew claws. The idea of the feet being attached to the meat they were going to eat somehow disrupted their idea it being a fairytale I guess.

Of course its "easy to see" its a flying rodent. Its amazing how many geniuses say that when they know it is CGI. Take those same super observant wanna be pantomath's, sit them down with CGI animals without informing them, they say oh look at the pretty animals, and at the end, once told it was CGI and not real they go " Of course I knew it all along!" As kids we called them know it all's, as adults the term is usually "Wind bag!" 😂😂

Sure, "easy to see". Except for all those times there's been CGI right in front of you, but you were completely clueless and assumed it was a practical effect. Because you are not the discerning film-buff, one who is above the riff-raff that are so easily fooled, that you think you are.

Ignore the negative bozos in the comments...they're just trolling because they're probably kids that found out that CGI is used way more than they realize; and got their little "cinema magic" bubbles burst. Seriously though, it's a pet peeve of mine how cheap a lot of CGI looks, even in today's world of technology (one of the main reasons I dislike all these Disney live-action reboots ). CGI animals in particular always have a 'soulless' look and feel about them, compared to the real deal. I agree, the amount of effort they take to try and make practical effects look real (before plastering over it with CGI) is pretty impressive.
