I have a 2014 base with 160k plus on the clock. Runs great, daily driver always in sport mode. Still a lot of fun to drive and still turns heads. Dealer maintained at about $5k per year average. 10k oil change interval at about $200 per. Very happy, is worth it for me.
@@vandshome My estimate gas tires and similar consumables. I have to admit that I didn't keep accurate records. I will think about doing that for my new 2022 S delivered in late March.
I have a Porsche cayenne 2016 with the premium package as well and I’m beyond obssesed , it handles itself so great & you can’t even feel the speed, it’s unbelievable! I love it so much and it is very reliable 😃.
Exactly lol you can’t even feel speed, I just bought it and got pull over lol , officer was so nice , I told him I know it was my fault , this car so smooth and fast even you don’t feel speed, he let me go this time, because of my honesty and I will be more careful.
I just bought a 2016 Cayenne V6 with around 114K miles. I was looking for a daily driver but have been surprised at the performance of this vehicle. Can certainly tell the difference between this and a BMW or a Benz. The quality is beyond obvious.
These are awesome buys in the used market, and we've had a huge increase in traffic on this episode, seems like a lot of people are looking at these right now. I enjoyed my week with it!
I'm looking to buy the same car, 3.6 v6 (300 hp) Cayenne 2016 with GTS body kit (from factory) Not sure if I'm doing the right decision between X5 or Range Rover (same year) My main concern is maintenance cost. I'm buying that car 28k € in Europe. The car has 75k miles on it and looks new. Note: If maintenance is around 1k per year including oil change I'm definitely down for it.
I got the S model (2015) last year and I totally love it! It’s very true what you said, the value for money is incredible, reliable sporty and a workhorse I even may say! Thanks
Thanks for sharing! We've had a lot of views on this recently, it seems to have hit that sweet spot where people are starting to pick these up in the used market. Enjoy yours!
I have 2 x cayenne S 4.2 liter V8 biturbodiesels, both are from 2014 and are super reliable. I have them 3 years now. No major costs till this day. And i do a lot of km. Both do about 28-30mpg in variable driving situation
I tell ya one thing, I love the 3.6L VR6 in my 08 Passat 4Motion wagon thats for sure... it can be reasonable on fuel if you can manage to hypermile some which isn't easy because that engine sounds sooo good when you drive it hard.
I think doing a lot more highway driving would have been good for me, unfortunately I end up doing a lot of in-town stuff now. The plug-in would be great!
I literally just bought my 2015 Cayenne sport today in white. Drives like a dream! It has 72,000 miles on it. You can even have the air conditioner blow through the seats!
I recall back in the day when my boss (one of my bosses I should say) got the 2004 V8 (S) & I had the pleasure of having to take it in for service, all I can remember (besides it always going into the shop for something) was how powerful & tight it felt, I was really impressed with it's performance! Great review & that puppy you were sportn' is awesome even though it's got a VW V6 engine. Gotta love the pano- roof & the seats look very supportive & comfy! My only complaint is all them switches (and of course as you mentioned the tiny infotainment screen)!...CHEERS!
Thanks for sharing! 2004 was the model year I first drove also. I don't think I'd want to buy one of those today, but I'd definitely want to try one out again just for nostalgia sake.
I had a 2011 Cayenne S. Traded it at 120k miles. NEVER had an issue. EVER. Most reliable vehicle i ever had. Now i have a 2017 Cayenne Platinum. I'm not worried a bit.
Glad to hear it! These seem to be a lot more reliable than the first generation, and clearly there's a lot of interest in it since this video has exploded in views over the past few months.

You'd likely be better off with the Porsche, the Range Rover will definitely explode, and the X5 would be ok but I'm sure it would need more work than the Cayenne.
Enjoy it! We've had a lot of views on this video recently, lots of others have been looking at picking up one of these in the used market. Hope it works out well for you!
You can scoop one of these up for mid to high $30ks USD. Not a bad deal. However, even though it’s a Porsche, I still would’ve opted for the mid grade engine the “S”, to get 420 hp. Great video Nile!
I hear ya, I think that’s the engine most people ultimately went with. I was surprised how many newer Cayenne and Macans I saw out here during my week with this, and pretty much all of them were the ‘S’.
The engine in the S/GTS is an absolute beast and not that anybody buying it really cares but its surprisingly good on gas. This turbo V6 is also reliable and easier to work on than the older V8’s.
I used to own a white one in 2016 and kept it for 4 years but sold it for personal reasons, I'm not sure if I will afford one in the future, but truely miss the days with her. Super realiable and comfortable, I drove it to cities like NYC, Chicago, Toronto and as far as Ottawa, Canada. Its such a great pal for road trips not only its driving experience but fuel economy, a full tank of gas will get you 500 miles free way...Things never break down even with lots of miles put on, the only thing I need to repair are tires... Always always recommend friends and people this vehicle.
I hear a lot of controversy over reliability and maintenance since it’s a Porsche. I really want a 2nd Gen (11-18) cayenne but I’m scared of repair costs or breaking down. I drive a lot and I’d wanna maybe use it on more than just some easy highways. Could you describe more on how you treated the car that got you good reliability? Or how you think mine would hold up?
@@ariahs9428 Yes, try to find 17 or later models cuz it has carplay. My friend had a 12 model and I didn't like its steeling, buttons started to wearing off and hard to press. I lived in northern Michigan, the center screen only broked once due to extreme low temperature, then the next day it's ok. Repairs can be costly, I rear ended a CRV on a snowy night, half of its trunk recessed but my cayenne only got few plastic grills apart. I still need a new bumper anyway cost over 3k(1.5 on for the parts). Yes repairs can be a pain in the ass but definitely great quality. If the road condition in your area is bad I recommend smaller wheels(18'or 19'), admitted that 21' was cool but fragile. A single 21' performance tire can be $600. Service the vehicle on time and ask them to check all engine, transmissions, breaks anything that related to safty.
I’m glad to hear that yours is working out well for you. I’ve always been worried about the overall reliability of these, but it seems these are pretty decent overall.
Glad you liked it, we've had a lot of interest in this car over the past few months, seems like it's right in the sweet spot of when people want to pick them up in the used market.
I had a friend buy one of these new. She’s exactly who you’d expect to own one, successful woman lol. The steering although direct is super dumb, but that’s all cars now a days. Just would’ve like more feed back like their sports cars. The Cayenne is great for road trips, super comfortable for all the passengers. They’re great but I’d certainly worry about out of warranty repairs
I have a 2015 base model diesel and could not agree more with your video. Mine has 130,000 km and it looks almost brand new. Not one squeak or rattle. The engine is a perfect mix of performance and economy. The infotainment is starting to date a little though.
I’m looking to buy a 2015 cayenne diesel! You’ve had no problems? How is the acceleration? I only got to test drive one for a short period on the streets without really getting a feel for the engine. I feel like it’d be fast if pushed but wasn’t sure. How base model is yours btw? I’m debating some features and if they’ll be worth it . Would love to hear more about your ownership experience
@@prabeeshsidhu go for the Diesel. Almost 580 newton/m torque at 2,500rpm you will enjoy it. It definitely push harder than the 3,6 engine due to the turbo. Fuel economy is awesome ! Reliable and robust. I couldn’t be happier
Very interesting vehicle, I am scared of getting a used Porsche because of maintenance costs. At least get an extended warranty. I also go for base V8.
@@vandshome also all shops charge 100%+ markup for parts. Source your own parts online and pay a pro to install. But if one is too ignorant to do some work on their own then they’re too rich or too dumb.
V6 is the best engine in these - from a reliability perspective. Its the mentality of an immature lad without the means to purchase a Cayenne that will whine about the V6
I mean, reliable as any other 9 year old Porsche will be. It'll cost more to service this vehicle than even the Audi or VW equivalent, so you need to budget in for that.
I guarantee if backup cameras hadn't been legally mandated as standard tech, the luxury brands like Porsche would still be charing customers for it today.
Warranties are always good as long as you understand what is and isn't covered. We've had a huge surge of people watching this video over the past 6 months, it seems a lot of people are looking at these Cayenne's in today's market. We've heard from a lot of recent buyers who love them, and appreciate our review of a used one. Hope you find one that works out for you !
It does have sports-car like handling. Early reviews of the first Cayenne said it had the characteristics of their cars. Porsche was really the first exotic to go SUV, now we've got Lambos, Jags, Alfas, Bentleys, and Rolls Royces. Porsche was ahead of the game.
If you do a lot of highway driving the diesel will be the most economical in terms of fuel efficiency. However it depends on the price of diesel versus gas wherever you are. For example regular fuel here in Ontario is about $1.32/L, whereas diesel is about $2.04/L. I would have bought a diesel about 4 years ago, but not anymore due to the cost of fuel.
LOL - OK. So I have an option to trade my 2015 Jaguar F-Type S for a 2016 Cayenne. So the whole mystique is something I am already aware of - having complements shouted across cars at red lights & so on. I have a sports car. But for a daily driver, it gets a bit old to have a 180mph car driving city streets and having sky high bills - and it won't tow or run dirt roads. so I do like the Cayenne. But to me it's not an emotional choice so much as a practical one. I'm about ready for early retirement, a travel trailer would be nice with the right tow vehicle and this could be it. Thx for the warning about model years :) The only sad thing, there is no car in the world, with an exhaust sound as good as a Jaguar F-Type - I will miss this, when it goes - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_J1m3oOqtqc.html
I have a 2016 base and yes it drives great but always little problems that end up costing thousands and if you’re thinking of buying one get the highest trim possible it really is slow
Does the base engine provide enough power? I feel like it wouldn’t be the quickest to overtake or speed up on the highway. I’m debating if the S engine with 420hp is worth the fuel mileage. I think the diesel is the best of both worlds but the hardest to find in the used market!
I didn't have any issues getting onto the highway or passing slower traffic, I'd probably go with the S though, I just finished filming a 2018 Macan S and the difference in the engine to weight ratio performance was noticeable.
@@gilgonzalez5902 I would be going for the S if I do buy the petrol version. I still am looking for a diesel. Do you know anything about the reliability of the cayenne s ?
@@prabeeshsidhu the Cayenne S is very reliable as long as it is properly maintained. It also helps that since its a 6 cylinder now its also cheaper and easier to work on since there is a bit more space in the engine bay. The diesel engine will give you only slightly better fuel mileage but you will completely miss out on the true performance Porsche experience so at that point as far as im concerned you can save the money and buy something much cheaper.
I’m seeing conflicting info online does anyone know what the towing capacity is for this exact year and spec? Is it really 7,700lbs in the non turbo? Wow.
Unfortunately I can’t say for certain, typically I find that towing ratings are slightly higher for European-spec vehicles versus US/North American ones.
Not reliable at all. Cayenne gts 2016. 9000 for transfer case if out of warranty. 6000 for valve cover gasket leak. 500 plus for oil change every year. Window switches and louvre on vent broken and I take care of my vehicles. Yes it drives amazing but you also need spark plugs every 40000km and each tire is 800 dollars for my 21’s. Brake job easy 2000 to 3000 dollars. Too many automotive journalists are clueless when it comes to reliability. I wish i never sold my Lexus Gx. Of course it half price of new when you have to spend an arm and a leg to keep it on the road in good condition! Regardless of how good the vehicle is you will not be happy if you care about value for your money!
9000 for a transfer case. Also every single Cayenne 958 and 958.2 will have this issue if driven long enough and in the right conditions( rain etc. ). It is a known design flaw that Porsche will only fix if it breaks. It starts with a skipping feeling in reverse and then progresses to a weird feeling between 2nd and 3rd gear while turning. I believe only the diesel is the only model not affected.
The two things that make a Cayenne such a good choice for me are that A, my aunt has had them my whole life and so my dad and I have done a lot of the general repair work for her and because of that I'm comfortable doing all the general maintenance myself. And B, arguably more important, I live in LA and my family has driven german cars since 1952, volkswagens, bmw's, audi's, porche's. This means that our favorite family mechanic is naturally a german specialist and as such any more intensive repairs the car may need, ie those I have neither the skill nor patience to perform, will be easily seen to.
You’ll be spending a few grand a year on preventative maintenance, if you go with one of these entry-trims there’s less to break so less overall costs. We’ve had an influx of views on this Cayenne over the last 6 months, people are really interested in them right now. Seems like it’s a great choice.
0:42 do I have one? I have several new Porsche cars but this was a very demeaning comment to viewers. Just because someone has one or not doesn’t mean you are better or not.
I bought one in 2004 it was junk, I bought another one, 20k miles, several problems. I usually just park it and drive my Tahoe. I can’t figure out most of the buttons
Porsche is Porsche don't thing is hard to have ...my comments is to buy and you will see if it's ok for your life or not ...more people drive bike and dream Porsche Cayenne to have ....have nice day 👏👍
I was looking for problems online for these, most of the time I ended up on forums complaining about 2011s or some of the first generations. If we think about the Jag I drove with less than 1/3rd of the mileage it had quite a few problems. This one was/is seriously clean.
@@PRNTestDrive these are notorious for bad transfer cases. Because if this tho, Porsche has a extended warranty for 7 year unlimited mileage free transfer case replacement. Just keep that in mind when purchasing. I only know cuz I had to replace mine
I mean you can always not save that $200. If you're planning to buy a car from them you might as well get as much of a deal as you can, but what do I know.
I've got a 958.2 Cayenne S and its the most unreliable car I ever had. I've daily drove and redlined my past cars like a BMW I6 or a Mercedes V8. I've beaten on those other brands for years and they haven't broke. I did hear that the 4.0 TT are much more reliable. The TT V6 power is nice but I may never purchase another one again.
@@prabeeshsidhu Engine stuttering, boost leak, sometimes misfires, window stops working. I mean it’s normal things but there’s a problem every 1-2 months. Not drivable rn. Otherwise aside from problems, it just gets vandalized.
@@PRNTestDrive It is, although it does give you props wherever you pull up but the thing siphons fuel like there’s no tomorrow. Not that much of a fun vehicle to drive either. Its feels like it’s trying to be something that’s it’s not. At the same time it ain’t a bad vehicle driving dynamics wise.
