What if this commenter is just another hustler looking to exploit some tribes for cheap labor or minerals? What if he’s really authentic and decent but he’s making deals with tribes and warlords living off slavery and trafficking? It’s a bad idea to make agreements with anyone who you don’t know and trust intimately. Just because someone looks like you doesn’t mean you should trust them.

Being oppressed by corrupt incompetent fellow black people in Zimbabwe where there is no access to healthcare and life expectancy is even shorter than the smith days is what leads people to say that the smith days were better. You can denounce white supremacy but you can also call a spade a spade and criticise black mismanagement. The men and women who died for us in the liberation struggle would weep if they saw the oppression and repression we live in under fellow black people in Zimbabwe. We haven’t yet achieved the gains of the liberation struggle.

This history is everywhere in Zimbabwe, including public holidays and names of streets and suburbs, not to even talk of schools. However, just teaching is not enough. The Gvt has to also be seen to be walking the talk and respecting these nationalist values of our founding fatbers and this is where our leaders fail. So far politics in Africa is about amassing personal wealth through looting of public resources and abuse of office. This is what makes common citizens disgruntled and end up appreciating colonial regimes better. The learned Dr Chihombori is biased in her narrative on this matter. People dont just wake up denouncing their native Gvts. Something pushes them into saying and behaving rebelliously and it happens over time not overnight. Of what value is liberation war history when those who are in power as part of trappings from participating in the war do all sorts of evil through abuse of power to intimidate and silence public descent? Surely this is not an attribute of Pan Africanism. The State is the people. Power is with the people too.

I went to school in Zimbabwe, junior and high school, and there wasn't, and as far as I know, still isn't anything on the curriculum about the Chimurenga or war for independence. I stand by my point, this needs to be on the curriculum and examined. And I disagree, Dr Chihombori's assessment is not biased. It is accurate, factual and anathema to those who revel in bashing their own country.

💯. It will give young generations an idea of what their brethren faced to emancipate themselves and not fall for the fake narrative that portrays Zimbabwe as an evil state because they fought for their freedom.
