I've said this before and I will say it again, Return to Shiganshina (Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2) is one of the greatest arcs/seasons in any form of media across any genre. The 3 episode run of Perfect Game, Hero, and Midnight Sun is one of the strongest 3 episode stretches in TV history. This season also had one of the best flashbacks I have seen (Grisha’s flashback). Keep in mind that Attack on Titan is not even my number 1 favorite anime (it’s my 5th favorite), yet here I am giving it this much well deserved praise.
@@davidf76363 My top 5 is kind of interchangeable because they're so close in terms of quality, but here's how I would rank them: 1. Gintama 2. Hunter X Hunter 3. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood 4. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 5. Attack on Titan
@@BadAssMacmillan never watched Gintama; otherwise ur based I HUGELY recommand you watching the Monogatari series if you've never had the chance to, especially if you love these overanalysing videos, actually we have the exact same top 5 (the rankings aside) except I never watched Gintama and I'd put Monogatari in my top 5 instead
@@davidf76363 I will definitely check Monogatari out! I've heard a lot of good things about it. I also highly recommend watching Gintama, don't let the huge number of episodes scare you lol.
41:02 Also, if I were to overanalyze that one shot, Marco being the one excitedly giving an answer to the teacher is a nice reference to "No, Marco... the problem is you're too damn sharp."
They are both blond with blue eyes... Their names sound similar... Armin's grandpa gave Armin that illegal book about stuff beyond wall, just like Erwin's dad thaught... They might be some sort of cousins or something.
My theory on why pure titans are inactive at night is simply because what's left of the human inside the titan still thinks it needs sleep but titans controlled by a royal or founding titan can overcome their primal instincts and thus can operate at night because the titans don't need to eat or sleep but only do so from instincts (and sure they eat for the possibility of getting a shifter)
@zenohd6934 they do not "eat" anything strictly speaking they chomp on and/or swallow humans then throw them up after a period of time unless they got a shifters spinal fluid in the mix. I was referring to them "eating" humans.. The titans don't sleep either what I meant is they go inactive at night because that's what the remaining human nervous system is used to doing at night. (Or because the titan creature that bonded with Ymir originally tries to recreate the humans as Titans but doesn't understand concepts like digestion or sleep as it might not require those things itself)
@zenohd6934 also I fail to see how the Titans not eating livestock disproves this theory on why pure Titans are inactive at night. They clearly only eat humans from instincts (with the unwitting bonus of that being how they can inherit a shifters power (which may just be because that's what first King Fritz made his daughters do to Ymir))
@@madDjakni specifically the part on why they eat humans, they have the desire to eat purely for the sake of returning human, and if their desire o eat remained because of their instincts to eat from their remaining nervous system, they would also eat animals. And scientifically, the desire of sleep comes from the overuse of organs and parts of your body needing to rest, while Titans have no organs.
24:09 Personally, I've always seen this part of the scene as a clear progression of Eren & Mikasa's dynamic. In earlier seasons, Eren would've vehemently refused her help & Mikasa would've forced it on him. However, now after the Dina scene & him acknowledging his own insecurities, he accepts her help with open arms & she doesn't handhold him as much.
I think it also serves to showcase eren's current skill level. When he first transformed, his entire uniform and odm gear was missing after he turned back into a human. In the female titan arc, we see that she was able to escape while titans are eating her, with not only enough strength to turn back into a titan but also all of her uniform and odm gear intact, so she could keep hiding her face. In this moment, we see that eren has come a long way: he is able to harden now, he still has enough strength to stay concious after leaving his titan and transform again (as we see later). His ODM gear is also still working and his jacket is still there. But his cape has still gone lost, which, in my interpretation, shows that eren hasn't perfected his abilities yet. He improved a lot, but he isn't on the level of the marley squad yet.
This arc even gave us the tracks TKT/ThanksAT and 2An/AoTS3-PF1. It's really still astonishing to this day everything about RtS arc. An absolute marvel for all time.
7:26 I took this frame as the Marlean officers that push Diana off into "paradise". It does look like a building, but it could be one of the officers standing behind one of the Eldians with the dock/ship in the background.
i was thinking the same or something similar because i swear i could see kruger in his attack titan after he killed the marleyan Public Security members
this series is like my only source of a proper intellectual "conversation" about aot cause none of my friends *Get It* and im too scared of the general fanbase now to seek anyone out, so thank you so much for providing this content! its genuinely my favourite youtube series out there
^ Exactly this! I was thinking the exact same thing. Also almost giving up hope completely that I could find any remotely intellectual and insightful discussion about aot. I am so happy.
@@mooglemog_uWu ikr! it feels so difficult to find someone to talk to when everyone just wants to praise and defend Eren's actions like their life depends on it..
The moment you see that mass transformation may very well be the best OH SHIT moment I have ever experienced in all of media ever. It is so so so well done. Beautiful, 11/10, lots of notes but they are all cheerful incomprehensible noises.
For the classroom image at the ending credits, my interpretation is: Marco is seen raising his hand, and he dies an early death in the series. During S3 part 1, Erwin himself has several flashbacks to him raising his hand in class, which had bad consequences for his dad. Ultimately, raising his hand is even the final thing Erwin does before he dies. The overanalyzing is really rubbing off on me here :p
I've rewatched this show going on 10 times now and I've never noticed the tubes poking out of the ground, how did you even notice that?! You're observation skills are incredible!
Don't quote me on this but I think they do have some sort of plumbing. This is based on one of the episodes in the lost girls OVAs where Annie is shown bathing in a bathroom type of place that also has a toilet. Kenny also jokes about needing a toilet in a different episode.
I'm always blown away by how much I learn that I missed in each and every one of these episodes. For instance, I never understood how they hid all those Titans - lol it was as simple as they just buried them?! Anyway thank you, this is easily my favorite series on all of RU-vid
Titan shifters becoming basically immortal was definitely one of the silliest things. Last season - Eren has a small booboo. He can't transform Now - Reiner has a sword through his throat, another one through his spinal chord, several shattered bones and his organs suffered sever trauma after getting yeeted 30 meters downward. Can transform just fine. And don't get me started on the thing that is going to happen. Like, seriously. If you don't want Reiner to die, don't have Levi kill him three separate times in five seconds. I guess Ymir was working overtime or something.
tbf the part of eren not being able to transform he wasn’t familiar with how to transform. but yeah, the plot armor titan became absolutely too much here
@@enderlp9666 nah bro they had to pull out the "transferring my consciousness to the bottom of my spine" to save him. no other shifter uses that EVER in the whole show
Peak AoT is Zeke appearing behind Erwin and you see him genuinely terrified. Because he KNOWS it’s the moment he foreshadowed, “there will be a day where it’s all we got against all they got.” Made the analysis playlist 🏆
The fact that Zeke choose that formation, in order to "not touch Eren" and activate the coordinate before the right time, and not blown his cover to Paradise nor Marley, is just pure genius. That shows why they considered him the "boy wonder". And Isayama hinted at this with the "pincer movement, or double envelopment" mention by Hange, while luring Reiner to move as the scouts wanted. the layers upon layers, bro. Really looking forward to that live action adaption of AOT you mentioned, as perfect as Denis Velleneuve's Dune part 1 and 2.
"A Sweetly demonic voice demands that we pave a road of corpses to take us there" I couldn't help but think that was a referece to Eren gaslighting everyone This is so beautyfull, god i wish i could write like this
So frustrated my phone didn't notify me, I am SO ready for this!! The Return to Shiganshina is just pure insanity, especially with the wild stunt of hiding in the walls and Zekes wall of titans. Also the very interesting dynamics between Armin and Bertolt starting to show and being intensified the next few episodes!
Brooo i have been rewatching aot for the 20th time recently and found one of your videos. I was baffled when i found that u made a full playlist of each episode i binged them all and i fucking love them . Back before season two was out i had no one to talk too about my theories or anything related to the show especially when season 2 was out (since yk they revealed so many things in that season and the long wait) you are kinda healing my past self lol Anyways what im trying to say is i love listening to you talk so passionately about a show I'm too passionate about and i do get excited when a new video is out .all your effort is appreciated and the editors who help you with the videos. Lastly i also enjoy your other videos so so much. Now ima start watching the video 😭
This ark's start is legendary indeed!!! Thank you for this awesome series!!! 😁 It really is great to hear someone talking about this story while appreciating it, especially when it's done with your style and passion!!!
41:01 Just looking at that image of them all in the classroom. 5 titan shifters all together with 6 of the titans between them. Ymir - Jaw Bertholdt - Colossal Reiner - Armour Annie - Female Eren - Attack & Founder Kinda crazy to look at it.
You make me think about how we forget that all this beautiful work we see on screen was made possible by the efforts of countless people. But this effort itself is only possible when those involved are operating beyond a mundane wavelength. I don't even know exactly what I'm trying to say or if it can be put into words, but I have also worked with art (writing), and what remains for me from all this is that it is generally the quickest way to touch or catch a glimpse of the essence of the sublime. There simply is no other explanation for something so magnificent being made by mere humans.
I wish the founder took away my memories of this show so I can watch it again and feel all the emotions this show brings, all the twists, the goosebumps. Especially because I never had the privilege to get the colossal and armored reveal since I discovered this show when my brother was watching it. I said something like “hey bro what you watching?” He said the title and then immediately got stunned as I was hearing “I’m the armored titan, he’s the colossal titan” from Reiner, and then I started watching it and saw Reiner as this comrade he was role playing and I was like “oh… damn”
Bro the first 4 minutes of observations in this video are your best yet. And there isn’t even that much overanalyzing? It just pieces together things that we know into a string of things we have admit about Eren during and after this show. And that string hits like a bag of bricks to the head. Bravo
You. Are. Goated. Thank you so much for keeping up with this series bruh. And for keeping the quality of each episode up, even if you have to spend more time on it
At 7:35, I think that this frame is actually the moment that Kruger gives Grisha the Attack Titan. You can see the outline of Grisha sitting and Kruger standing, looking onward at the sea, the clouds and the setting sun above them, and the rippling of the ocean in front of them.
Oh boy i love your detours... I'm sincerely convinced that isayama looks at your videos and takes notes on what to say in interviews (even though he ultimately doesn't)
bro i have been watching every aot overanalysis for the past two days and upset that I watched them all now this pops up. life is literally so crazy lmao thank you so much
Hey Korotos, I don't remember if I ever commented on your channel before. But thanks for making these videos. Even though I probably shouldn't, I been going back & forth rewatching the show and watching your videos for research. It helps a lot, thanks for making these overabalyzing videos! :D
13:19 ive always seen it as it comes down to time. id say the newer you are as a titan youd be able to have more energy, all those titans had just been transformed, but most of the titans out side the walls dont move at night. would be fun to see a deep dive looking into that.
this is random but i’ve been bingeing your videos (i started with atla & now aot) while doing literally everything (work, hobbies, sleeping 😭) & last night i had a dream where i watched your video detailing your backstory abt what happened in your life until you got into analyzing things. i thought it was real bcs the jokes / way of speaking in my dream was identical to how you speak in your vids 😭
I just wish the overanalyzing of this arc included more of the emotional side too. That single repeating point about Levi, that he had already made his choice at that point, I just think it takes away his human feelings. It’s as if there's nothing beyond pragmatism, when Levi's emotional side will always be the key to his character. I think you did a great job with Historia and Ymir's storyline, so I'm just hoping for this arc it will also come eventually. Thank you for your videos.
I don't think he has *already* made his decision, I mean there's a reason why he was seconds away from injecting Erwin. 😅 I'm focusing on all the moments that sway his opinion first because those are the ones that "matter more" for the story direction currently. We all know he wants to save Erwin already, so there's not point in rehashing all of that for now. I could say "he wanted Erwin to not go on the mission because he doesn't want him to die" etc, but I think that's kinda redundant, you know? 😅 When we actually get to his decision though, we'll be talking PLENTY about his emotional turmoil since he largely has to make that choice twice (first with the charge itself and later with the syringe). I'm basically taking the same approach as with season 2 - I focused on the Marley angle a whole lot more before zeroing in on just the feelings between Ymir and Historia. Hope that clears it up somewhat. 👍
I was really exited to see that yesterday when I forgot about your video from 2 weeks ago that it was 2 weeks ago and that a new video would be dropping. Excellent work as always man, keep up the great work and take care of yourself. As for the pipes, that is another detail i definitely missed on my watching of the series. I will say, at the rate you’re going with your videos, I’m going to have watch one of your videos and then the AOT episode to see what I would have missed otherwise
I like to think that the moonlight titans are just able to function at night (maybe even without the moonlight) because they are following zeke's orders, and that forces them to kinda ignore their insticts.
In terms of the controlled titans being different than pure titans I’m pretty sure it’s meant to be conveyed with Zeke lining the row of pure titans as any others would start wandering towards the nearest humans, so it makes sense that they can operate without sunlight since if it were the case that all titans needed sunlight then the 9 would only be effective during the day so it makes sense that Zeke’s commands bypass the general sunlight needed (I dont mean to be the “well actually 🤓☝️” guy I just love this series to the point where i’m overanalysing the over analysis)
I think the line "don't forget about me, the truth about me" is also about Bertoldt. Annie and Reiner ultimately survive war and reconcile with their friends in the scouts, but Bertoldt dies alone and scared begging for his friends to save him. I think the line could be interpreted to refer to him wanting to be forgiven like Annie and Reiner are, which I guess he is, posthumously anyway.
at the end when you're analyzing the classroom stillshot, i think that the third person missing from reiner and bertholdts table could actually be marcel
I think the "sus" scene were Eren loses his cloak just highlights that Eren loses his outer layer of clothing EVERY TIME he transforms. I wonder why the scouts never realized that and brought an extra cloak for Eren, since they must've knew that this would happen.
I love this show so much, it's my favorite anime and one of my favorite pieces of fiction in general and a part of that is because of this video series, not only do I just enjoy watching it almost as much as the show itself but it's elevated the story and themes to new heights and made me enjoy something I already loved all the more. thanks for the years of great content! Now to actually watch the video ,':^) best arc incoming
First of all it always makes my day when I see that there ust another episode of overanalysing aot. But i wanted to point out that the seen in the ed is when they got thaught about how titans canregenerate from almost anything and marco asks if titans are invincible. So yeah miner point but wanted to point it out. Keep up the great work
i find it so disturbing how marley buried alive multiple eldians - who are probably paralyzed because they’ve ingested Zeke’s spinal fluid - sitting there and waiting to be transformed into titans and ambush the scouts. Days, weeks, who knows how long. Trapped in a tiny, dark space, unable to move, for so long just to be used as pawns. shit’s gnarly.
Season 3 part 2 was the peak time of aot. The best time of existence of aot. It was the most interesting and important part in the whole story. I wasn’t understanding how happy I was.
