Ukraine won't waste too many drones on a motorcycle like they would a tank, meanwhile you have the speed of mechanized infantry as well as having the ability to disperse the platoon under fire. Light armor can also be added if necessary to protect against machine guns. All in all, it's a good, albeit unconventional tactic.

As a biker, few things to add here. -250cc makes sense as they have ample power. If we use kawasaki kx250 as an example it makes about 40bhp and weighs around 110kg, thus making great weight to power ratios. A 150cc motocross can also fulfill same functions as the terrain won't allow these bikes to cross 80kph plus the cost for smaller 150cc will be less. - 150/250 singles are easier to service and can take considerable abuse. However these bikes usually have about 2 to 3k engine head service cycles, but what I gathered from Alex's description of operations, they don't clock 100s of kms per mission. So each motorcycle can perform about 75 missions with 40km return journey before major head rebuild is required. - Brands such as KTM or Yamaha should be avoided, it's better to opt for Chinese motocross motorcycles as they are considerably cheaper. 150cc motocross would be cheaper compared to 250s. - Instead of parking their bikes on side stands, they can be laid on the ground and covered with camouflage net. As these bikes are light and can be lifted easily. However this might add more time if soldier needs to escape from position fast. But a camouflage paint scheme should help. I am no expert on battle tactics, but I can clearly see it would be in Russian interest to formalise such motorcycle units and source these bikes from China on a large scale. Because Ukrainians will be employing same tactics soon enough.

As I've been saying for now years. With Technicals we're seeing the modern resurgence of "light cavalry" tactics. (Yes it's not traditional light cavalry and more mounted infantry but the overall idea is the same when you compare to heavier armored transports and tanks) Faster moving lower cost high speed infantry with weapons just effective enough as well as drones and other artillery style support that their speed makes them a threat. It can't challenge US dominance, but EU-NATO and most other nations this overall approach to warfare isn't something they have a good answer for, heck even the US doesn't have a good answer for it outside the US's overwhelming airpower and the endurance of their forces.

That's the point: there is no gunfire. Those movemenst are made in areas which are not around some bunkers with machine guns or whatever, but drone and artillery coverage, where speed and spread runs surpreme.

In the 70's the South African Armed Infantry forces successfully used modern off road motorcycles in the struggle against insurgents.

The one thing you also get with a bike dismount instead of an APC is situational awareness. It's easier to orient yourself if you're the one driving there and looking at the terrain the entire time instead of just sitting in a often closed space and just jumping out having to orient yourself were everything is.

Portuguese here. Although this might sound like a "novelty". The fact remain that when I served on the Portuguese airborne troops, more than 30 years ago. I clearly recall both motorcycles and dune buggies (both air cooled) being part of the regular equipment. I reiterate that was more than 3 decades ago. And both were years old equipment. That leads me to say that the "novelty" argument is not accurate. ;-)

One of the main purpose of these cavalry squads is to deploy soldiers along paths and forest row in order to monitor, protect the passage of Russian vehicles,IFV,Tanks..etc.. and to deploy anti drone equipment, ATGM/ sniper teams.

Another solution would be lightweight bikes that can fold down and be easily hidden or carried. Electric bikes with removable parts would be an example. You could remove the parts and have them carried or hidden in woods.

This is actually WW2 German tactics. They often used motorcycles to get behind Soviet positions. Sidecars with machine guns were commonly attached. Lately, various US special forces use electric dirt bikes to move quickly behind enemy lines. Electric bikes are silent and produce a lower heat signature.

In a war where the frontline is so massive and has limited movement, motorized infantry like squads or platoons with literal dirt bikes can be a pretty big deal. There's lots of artillery and drones in this conflict so mobility is key. I think it's a pretty good solution.
