great speech! This sailing ship environment was a stepping stone to help young people grow and stretch in a safe manner without going out on their own unsupervised. How many more kids go out and challenge themselves unsupervised and end up falling off a cliff face, drowning in a river, or driving their motorcycle or 4 wheeler without training/supervision and end up injured and dead because these adventurous kids where ignored by adults who wanted them to be "safe"? It's a shame organizations that help youth stretch and grow get slammed by lawsuits despite their best efforts to let parents know its inherently dangerous and to proceed at your own risk (signing liability form waivers, etc).

I like this talk a lot. I think he could make some better points and make it more impactful, but at the same time you can tell that he loves sailing so much. Risk taking is something that has been on my mind a decent bit lately and to think that not taking a risk sometimes is more harmful than even the chance that a risk comes to fruition is something that is the most scary of all. I feel that allowing the fear of something bad happening to control all of your decision making processes makes it to where there is actually no chance of anything good happening in your life, and that can not be the right way to live.

I also like this talk a lot. Creating legislative "solutions" to problems that exist in individuals' minds is what I see being wrong here, and that happens a whole lot in this world where people are denied the opportunity to take risks, by whomever chooses to assert authority over the individual. Let's all pitch in and help people become aware as they go about taking risks in their daily lives. Isn't that what truly responsible parents, friends and peers do???
