A fair few horror films finish with the monster getting physically beaten by the survior/s. Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street 3, 4. Aliens. Jaws.
Spider isn't It's true form, It's form is not even possible to see for a human, because human's brain can't handle it. Giant spider is practically the truest form the human brain can see.
Also, everything that Pennywise does, those are not illusions. He can teleport and stuff, so, he maybe found his old knife and brought it to him for real. Also, It takes the form of that what people are afraid of, in the book, he took a form of a shark from Jaws, Dracula etc...
This movie completely traumatized me as a child - I was terrified of showering for a while year afterword. Had to shower with the door open and make my grandma sit in the living room to make sure I didn’t die while I showered. Watched the movie again in high school.. wow. We all sure float, don’t we? Thank goodness for Tim Curry 😂
+None of your fucking business I read the book and yes the movie has so many problems i still like it for nostalgia and for Tim Curry. Book better but still I love watching it.
+None of your fucking business By the way I know this might be BS but I heard they are doing a remake and making it into 2 parts like with the last two harry potter movies cant wait to see what Hollywood might do!
I actually view the movie It as a comedy. and imo its pretty damn funny, I mean that library scene, holy crap I almost die from laughter every time. With Pennywise's puns, and the fact no one else could see him. hilarious. Who says horror writers can't write comedy.
I liked Emily Perkins since I saw her in 'IT'. I saw her in a few tv movies, a couple of werewolf movies and Supernatural episodes. It was good to know what she's up to now.
RIGHT??? Like what the AF? Night court is/was brilliance...and yeah probably what Harry Anderson will be remembered for...and probably this...moreso this...
Found a VHS copy of this movie at work the same day i was talking to someone who saw it as a kid. I went home and watched it and despite a couple of creepy scenes it wasn't scary in the slightest yet, i can see how it would of scared a 90s kid tho
Please do these four steps God gave me. They contain deep spiritual significance and an accumulative healing effect on your soul. Faith isn't belief alone, it's actions based on belief. These steps fulfill spiritual milestones God placed in the Bible for those who take its lessons to heart to do. Please, just trust me enough to see for yourself. Forgive your parents, break down before Jesus Christ, ask for forgiveness, and read at least three books of the Bible. The first book of each testament and one you chose yourself.
My friend told be about this movie about 5 years ago and made it sound WAAAAAAYY scarier than it actually was. I had this vision in my head of a completely dark horror movie that showed like full brutal death scenes of the clown like turning his mouth into a black hole or something completely wrapping it around the kids' bodies and they screamed horrifically. I'm actually quite into the horror genre but I avoided this film and any images of it for so long all because of that vision. After watching this I finally realise I was scared over one of the dumbest things I have ever thought out. ..........All these years, man!
Mr Rare16 The book is really long, but I still encourage you to read it. There is scenes that they changed in the tv series, like Eddie's first meeting with Pennywise. Instead of in the shower and Pennywise taunting him and stuff, Eddie goes close by this house and is chased by a homeless man with an extreme case of leprosy.
because you're use to cheap jump scares and meaningless blood and gore. Also, if you're an adult and expect this movie set somewhere in the 60's and made in the 80s to give you the same effect that a modern horror has... blame yourself.
30 years old, the shit still scares me. Due to the fact that when I was 6 years old, my brother told me he had control over "IT" and that he would summon it to kill me in my sleep, then it would take me to hell in order to continue torturing me for eternity. I mean, I can raionalize it and realize that it's fake. But that shit got into my psyche somehow.
Parents "made" u watch IT when u were 4!? HAha. My mom wouldn´t turn of the scary movie she was watching if I woke up. Just let me sit with her a while then back to bed. Didn´t make it easier to fall asleep again😋
My parents made me watch it too. My father would be at work, but my mom.. I couldn't sleep for like 2 years comfortably or take a shower without thinking I'm hearing "we all float down here" from the drain.
if u ask me the whole thing is only scary with the context of “IT” being an allegory for the cycle of abuse & purposeful ignorance. unlike the new 2017 version which i feel definitely carries out those themes too, but is also still totally viewable as just a supernatural-monster-horror movie. whereas if u try to watch the 1990 one thinking that just the clown himself is the scary part, youll be very disappointed and bored. but the town of derry/the losers club and their various attributes that “make them losers”/the entire universe it’s set in, is supposed to be a metaphor for abuse&oppression and the way everyone has to choose between being complacent to a world of evil, or actively fighting it in community with others. also another detail that makes it more interesting: stephen king’s works are supposedly all set in the same universe, and a lot of people have pointed out that it seems the losers club have “the shining” and thats how theyre able to find each other and to withstand pennywise
T 2017 -- i never said anyone "should" find it scary, everyone's entitled to their own opinion (: i just explained how it understandably wouldn't be scary to people who missed the entire point of the whole plot lol.
The main scary thing about this movie is Tim Curry's performance as a clown. Everything else is kind of silly. Tim Curry should have been the form of the monster for the whole movie instead of werewolves and spiders.
Mike Honcho Yeah, but the book specifically says that he took on werewolf and spider form as well as Beverly Marsh and Ben's dad. The Spider should have been more scarier than that animatronic piece of crap, though.
***** in the book the had the ritual of chud where a chosen from the group bit into the tongue of IT and fought it on a subliminal level. that was too deep for a tv movie tho.
The book really is amazing. One of King's finest novel's and anyone who LOVED this movie really needs to take the time to read the book. It is well worth your time! (What's funny too is Henry Bowers dad's name was Butch in the book.)
+Joshua Marsella and by the way, the second half of the book doesn't slow down like the movie. It gets WAY better and explains Pennywise's origin and gets kind of trippy.
+Joshua Marsella Tried reading the book BEFORE ever seeing the movie and it was way too 'intense' with language and stuff - Then I saw the movie (almost didn't because of the book) and enjoyed the movie.
+Joshua Marsella I'd say the book is right on par with Salem's Lot and The Stand. I really like this miniseries though, I can see why some people find it kinda boring but it's still better than most of today's horror movies.
@@incessantmurkysmuggler I am so perplexed as to how this review is so popular compared to his other work. FanboyFlicks usually gets a lot of views compared to his subscriber numbers, but this is his only video to hit a million views, and it will probably hit 3 million before another one of his videos hits a million.
Lol, I laughed when I read your comment. As I contemplated the comparison, I realized that a 6 billion-year-old, fear-consuming, shape-shifting monster doesn't hold a candle to smartphone/attention addiction. That movie had several moments to teach children that being reliant on technology to engage in social discourse was NOT a healthy or rewarding method; and it missed an opportunity to bring awareness to Twitter Mobs slandering innocent people seemingly without any repercussions.
My mom kept telling me IT was too scary to watch but I watched it because she finally agreed to let me. It got me hooked to horror but It (1999) wasn't even really that scary, but Tim curry did the best friggin job as pennywise everrrrrrrrr!!! The scaries part was Georgie's death I would say. But the 2017 is much scarier. I think for a 1990's movie IT was a great horror movie. I loved it❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hate to break it to you, Brad, but the original IT didn't come out in 1999. It (IT :P) came out in 1990, nearly a decade prior to what you thought it did. Thanks for making me feel old :P
@@spartamerican6758 I know I'm in a super-tiny minority, but... The ending worked for me. I think it took a lot of guts for King to take it there. It was meant to drive home the idea that the bond they all shared - however familiar it may have felt to some readers - was actually something much, much more.
What do you think of the part where the boys, very graphically, run a "locomotive party" on the token girl? Or do you mean the book is "so so incredibly good" except for the stuff no adult should have written, much less enjoy reading?
If you're looking for a few recomendations to enjoy, that just so happen to also be Steven King TV mini series, then checking out The Shining and The Langoliers will be amazing. Yes, there's a mini series for The Shining because Steven didn't like the movie Kubrick made and so he made his own the way HE wanted...All I can say is, you have to see it.
Totally what happened to me. As a kid I was scared shitless by this movie, even though I already thought the ending was shit. Then I watched it again a couple years ago and thought it was boring as hell.
I always liked the way the kids played in this version of IT, and how the part of their childhood and fears was shown. When they are grown up - it's different. Having seen the new IT, I would say, that combining the part with kids from 1990s with the adults from It: Part 2 would make a perfect match.
Even though IT part 1 is several times better than part 2? The kids are great, the FX are better, despite a great cast, part 2 just pales compared to the kids.
I actually liked the original it, sure its long and kinda boring in parts but I thought it was OK, the remake on the other hand, is just amazing, I personally think the new one got everything right but I guess that's just me
Dark Zombi Productions I agree. My parents recently bought this movie for me, and even though I was scared of IT as a kid, I was just mostly bored watching it at twenty-one. However, I did kind of like the first half, so I'm happy that I took Fanboyflicks' advice; the second half was boring.
The remake is garbage. Wtf are you talking about? Wasn't scary, had lot's of stupid seizures from Pennywise, weak jump scares, jump scares every second that we're not effective, stupidass kids cursing. Just all around trash.
the remake is so much better than the original. there werent that many jump scares and the kids definitely talked like kids from the 80s. especially from a stephen king novel. sorry but the original is very tame. not all the scares are great in the new one. but its still a lot better.
I was very disappointed with the remake, just predictable unscary jump scares and loud noises, the kids I thought were less memorable, they even re wrote some of them so they had even less story arc than the original.
@@MPT1983 false jump scares I dont like but if it really is the monster that's different. The 1990 version suffers from its low budget production values. It looks really dated now.
Older scary movies didn't rely on cheap thrills from things that pop out at you to scare the audience. There was an actual plot and if you don't have the attention span of a gnat and can actually follow it, the whole premise of these older horror movies are far more terrifying than many of today's.
just one movie from the older days are more terrifying than most horror movies today combined like combine 100 horror movies today and you might have 1 movie back then
While it's true that horror movies back then didn't rely on jump scares, and instead tried to instill genuine fear and dread, It didn't accomplish this at all, in my opinion.
There are a few you should check out. The Babadook and the Conjuring are both freakshows. The Conjuring has one or two sort of jump scares, but they're handled well, and not too overt. Not all horror movies suck, you just gotta try and keep an eye out for the good ones.
But why kill them if he feeds on the fear? And does he also feed on their flesh? Does he feed on their fear or flesh? Why did he suck that one kid into the pipe to eat him?
It doesn't so much feed on fear itself, but rather just enjoys it. Kids are easy targets for this reason, they're small, naive, and their fears are simple and easy to recreate. Not like adults, who you have to work hard to match the fears of, seriously, how do you make crippling debt and depression something you can morph into and eat someone with?
It baffles me on how some people think the 1990 miniseries is better than the 2017 movie... The miniseries is actually a huge snooze fest (especially in the 2nd part/Adults). Much of the source material was dumbed down for TV and so is the horror.
Kron Hertz To me the clown in the 2017 version is sometimes hilarious, like when he leaps out of the projection screen and other y times just plain annoying, like clowns are in real life. The only time I found Skarsård's Pennywise creepy was at the very beginning of the movie.
I prefer the original because the IT creature is actually unnerving if you're a child. The new guys good but honestly he's an overpaid cosplayer of the original if you ask me.
I was disappointed with the newer version. They had some great scenes, but the modern day, loud jump scare, horror movie kept fucking it up. IT needs to be made into a psychological thriller. Avoid trying to make it scary, and instead focus on making it unnerving and disturbing. Mordern horror movies suck.
haha true dat. But it is not just that, some of the scenes he is describing are not that bad, and yet he still manages to make them look stupid just for the sake of the video.
I totaly agree. I`m not a big Fan of the movie, but credit where credit is due. It has it`s moments and the rest I think is from medicore to bad, but not that stupid and bad.
I liked it too; but they've made the EXACT same fucking mistake as this movie! They skipped the exact same scene in the book that sets up the very important plot device they'll need later to defeat It. That's WHY the ending of this movie is so crap; they skipped the important set up scene for the ritual of chud, and then they NEEDED the ritual of chud to defeat It, so they had to come up with something else. Because had they suddenly introduced it, no one would've understood what was happening. The new one did the EXACT SAME THING.
Captain Justus It depends on if you liked what the movie hinted at. There is a bigger mythology and more character development, so beyond the fate of It you actually don't know how it ends
How could you think Harry Anderson is known for Dave's World? He was the star of Night Court and a popular guest on Cheers. One of the biggest stars of 80s tv.
TV Mini series sucks. Novel is brilliant. Seems like most people who only saw the TV mini series don't understand the story because the mini series screwed it up. Anyway....read the novel. Don't bother with the mini series.
MisterLyn LOL....yeah...I'm sure that would be illegal to film. (If I remember correctly there's also a scene where Patrick Hockstetter blows Henry Bowers for a moment). Some stuff just can't make it on the big screen....thankfully.
That creepiness in the new one is kind of the problem for me. Pennywise is most effective when he goes from "hell yeah I could just sit back and enjoy my time with this guy!" to "HOLY SHIT WHATTAFUCK!!!" in a couple of seconds. With the new one, he looks like a scary monster before hand, and the shock/surprise is lessened for it.
I am honestly glad they are remaking this. With modern technology this film could be better (and I usually don't take this point of view just FYI) and I was really exited to here that Will Poulter was cast as Penny Wise, I think that is a great choice. He has a really intense look and his eyebrows look the exact same as Tim Curry's here. He is also a really great actor IMO (and if you don't believe just check out The Revenant) hopefully they don't mess this one up.
***** Oh stop it. There is nothing wrong with CGI as long as it is used appropriatly. I will use The Revenant as another example. Think about that bear attack scene, the CGI is what made that scene possible and what a fucking scene it was. But I agree with you that I want the movie to look real and seem real. Practical effects would be much appreciated. I kind of want it to be like the first Sinister movie (great horror movie) hopefully they get that same director
***** A man simply could not do movements like a real bear. It would have looked stupid. Plus in the scene the bear looks 100% real, it does not look like CGI at all not even for a second.
Tim Curry was incredible in this movie he was right up there with your Freddy Krueger characters I think that if they've done this as a feature film as opposed to a television miniseries it would have been one of the great slasher IP's from the 80s
The scariest movie I've seen is the grudge. I still can't watch that shit at night or anytime without looking away in scenes. Don't fucking know why. The only film I'm truly scared of.
Want to try something R E A L L Y S C A R Y? It takes 5 mins... you must be alone... do exactly as it tells you... Try the dare on 13Horror com Good luck...
Problem with adaptations. Original source material is amazing. For example IT-The Novel. If you didn't see the miniseries when you were a kid, than it's gonna be a pathetic work of crap. Conclusion~Read the book, watch the soon to be amazing adaptation. Done!
What like the modernised Nightmare on Elmstreet adaptation or the latest The Thing Movie. Newer isn't always better. Often the classics still come out on top and are more memorable. There is no guarantee the 2017 version will knock it out of the park. It might be riddled with cheap jump scares. How did they fuck up Freddy? They took away his personality, his humour and made him Jason mark 2 in a Fedora. The mini series from what I can tell has a closer representation of the book's Pennywise. The new one has him wearing a fucking dress for starters. He has no allure or anything fascinating about him whatsoever to justify how he could get any kid to engage in any conversation. "hey Georgie, I'm Pennywise the clown" any kid seeing the new Pennywise introduce himself would run a mile. The dude looks crazy as fuck.
Loop Hole Im just curious as to whether you've even read the book?... Tim Curry portrayed pennywise in his own way.. but he told way too many jokes. Pennywise in the novel literally tortures the fuck out of these kids. I'm also curious as to whether you've seen the new sneak peek with pennywise talking to Georgie. Creepy shit..
Nah, Tim Curry is iconic but Skarsgard did an amazing job but also it's the way it was written. Definitely better and more accurate to how Pennywise is supposed to be. The 90s miniseries was simply a product of its time.
I thought there was one quick scene in this movie that was genuinely scary. Its not in this video. Anyone who's seen the movie knows what I'm talking about. Its right after Bev shoots Pennywise with the slingshot and he goes down the drain. He grabs one of their arms and his hand slowly morphs into a monstrous 3-fingered reptilian appendage before sliding in. That one shot always unsettled me, I guess because it seems like its taking its true form but you can't see much of it so your imagination goes crazy thinking about what he turned into.
Also the stop motiony way he leaves also creeped me out too, using stop motion in horror movies should be more common nowadays it enhances the uncannyness.
The Rottweiler in the clown suit was supposedly King's idea of what horror rival (at the time) Dean Koontz would have used. Sort of a jab at just how un-scary Koontz' writing was, within the context of King's literary spooks.
Great review! The sarcasm is priceless. Belch actually already experienced a mythical creature and a dumpster in The Neverending Story. He is one of the bullies that attacked Bastian.
The book is amazing. I am totally against remakes BUT... lol I honestly would love to see this remade. I think it really missed great opportunities from its source material the first time around. Plus, does it count as a remake if it was a made-for-TV movie? Lol
The book is great and for as big as it is, it's a very quick read because it flows very well, which in some king books, I do not find them flowing very well. Their are a lot of boring parts and often they are at the beginning which make them hard to get into. I remember reading pet cemetery and getting so pissed off about how much time the doctor and Judd sit on the porch and talk and talk and talk while drinking beers for like 30 pages. Same thing with Carrie after the girls throw the tampons at her in the locker room. The gym teacher and the principal sit in the office and talk and talk and talk. It's so unnecessary, and drags on. I don't remember much of that reading it, unless you include the part where the detectives are interviewing the suspects after the gay guy gets thrown off the bridge at the festival, but that was interesting and had a natural flow.
I remember as a child being drawn to IT because I was absolutely in love with the character Pennywise and Tim Curry’s charisma preforming him. Even though the story and his actions scared me I would always keep waiting for the next scene where he appears. He both delighted me yet also kept me extremely intimidated of him. I didn’t really care too much about the main characters and was likely too scared to follow the story and didn’t care about the monster parts. My favourite scene is him laughing in the library. Other than that I never found much about this story very memorable. Unsurprisingly I fell in love with the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise not too long after either haha love me a goofy ass serial killer/monster
when I was about 5 years old I saw the very beginning of IT, just the Georgie sewer scene, and had nightmares for YEARS! I saw the whole movie when I was 12 or so and its shittiness ended all my previous fears
theenn.. you scare the crap outta me with your balloon at the end.. if I wasn't on my pills I could have gotten a panic attack as I'm sure many other people can understand
The reason why Pennywise doesn't kill the kids right away is because "kids taste better when they are affraid". I guess he killed the first girl quickly because he was hungry but he thought he'd toy with the remaining kids' fears to enhance the flavor, or something like that.
The movie would be terrifying if you had any type of imagination with any type of capacity for empathy. I'm 20 and the thought of Tim Curry as Pennywise with supernatural powers tormenting me is one of my biggest fears. Everyone has a cup of tea, I suppose but if you had the imagination to put yourself in that situation, I think this film would've cemented itself as a terrifying idea in your mind.
+Timothy Kimmel I can. I'd laugh at Pennywise. Don't insult Mark because you're upset he thought the miniseries was bad. That says absolutely nothing about his imagination. I mean, horror is subjective. But he also pointed out the dumb parts of the story, as well. You're free to think differently than Mark. That's fine. But getting personal over a review is poor taste. What a poor comment.
Ckarasu Insults are relative. I can't insult someone unless they take what I say personally. I'm sure he has better things to worry about than what some random guy on RU-vid thinks. The only reason I commented to begin with is because I had something to say and I use social media for its intended purpose. Idrc about being PC or polite. It's the Internet. Not everyone is a kiss ass.
Timothy Kimmel Nothing you said meant anything. I don't give a crap about being PC. What I said had nothing to do with that. I just said that your insults, whether he cared for them or not, had no meaning or bearing. You're free to say what you want. I'm free to criticize what you say.
Ckarasu They had a bearing in my opinion and my opinion is not contingent on whether or not you think it has meaning. So criticize away but you're wasting your time.
+Timothy Kimmel The movie ITSELF isn't too scary, but it fueles your own imagination, and the concept is simply brilliant horror. Any one who falls to sleep thinking about the premise will understand why this is simply horrifying. Not to mention the book is just about the scariest thing I've ever read.
Fun fact: 'Belch' the Tunnel-Snake bully (a.k.a., dead pipe/zombie guy) was played by Chris Eastman, and also played 'Bully Number 1' in the origin Never-ending Story. And now you know.
it still won't be scary. "It" scared the hell out of me when I was a kid, like everyone else, but after rewatching it it really is quite sh"it"ty. eh? eh? see what I did there? just recite bird names really loud and you'll be safe. they all float down here.
