Theres so many great, gritty, talented hoopers that the world forgets about more and more each year or the youth never get to see. Today’s feature is one of them, but early on in his journey he was most certainly a sight to see. He could shoot, pass and his handle were second to none. I admired his game, and honestly it was bitter sweet writing this because I remember how good Sherron Collins was, mostly him being a key element that took down my Derrick Rose led Memphis Tigers back in 08 to win the national championship. A piece of history I still haven’t forgiven he and Mario Chalmers for, but as I got sunken in to his story it became more and more unbelievable this guy’s NBA career didn’t go much better than lasting only 20 games. He was one of, if not the best point guard in college his junior and senior season, even Bill Self called him the best point guard in school history. What happened? Why didn't that translate to NBA Success? How Sherron Collins Lasted Just 20 Games In The NBA! Stunted Growth

One of my favorite college point guards. Rooted heavy for him to get a good opportunity in the league. Still hurt it had to be him with the big steal and 3 that sunk the Memphis Tigers season in 08. Salute to a legend.

As important as a college education and degree is, multi million dollar nba rookie contracts are a once in a lifetime opportunity even for guys with talent like sharron. Stunted Growth list MICKEY CROWE ESTEBAN WEAVER OCTAVIOUS THOMAS If OST247, Overtime, and Slam were around during the late 80s and early 90s they would have been flocking to a small high school on the westside of Atlanta, Georgia called Walter F. George High School. To witness one of the best high school basketball players to ever come out of the state of Georgia. Known simple as “Oct”, to all Georgia basketball aficionados and players who have played against him or heard the stories Octavious Thomas had a cult following similar to Benji Wilson in Chicago, Demetrius “Hook” Mitchell in Los Angeles, and Earl Manigault in New York. Thomas was six-foot one left-handed guard who could get where ever and score with the best of them. He had the blazing speed of Kyrie Irving, with Russell Westbrook fire, and Dame Lillard’s ability to take the game over from the point guard position. Thomas only played three years of high school basketball as was considered by the end of his junior year as the #2 point guard in the country in 1991-1992, who was #1 that year a fella from Oakland California by the name of Jason Kidd. Thomas had a chance to prove why he should be number one during the summer of 1992, in Las Vegas in front of many Division 1 college coaches, including UNLV’s legendary coach Jerry Tarkanian. The result was Jason Kidd finished with 27 points, while Thomas finished with an amazing 52 points and was vaulted into the national spotlight as the number #2-point guard in the country. Unfortunately, due to academic issues, he was not eligible his senior season causing him to not attend college. The legend of Thomas considered by many to be the best NBA or High School player to come through Georgia is still talked about even 28 years later. Stats that support these claims, was as a junior at George High School he averaged 37.9 ppg and 10.8 ast. During the state tournament he scored 49 vs Lafayette, 33 vs Gainesville, 34 vs Seminole County, and in the championship game vs Mitchell-Baker he scored 24 points in a one-point loss 71-70.

Not sure if that's "Stunted Growth" or that he's just not tall enough and his age. I feel he maximized his playing ability but given that he was around 23 when he was drafted 34th the draft after he was National Player of the Year in college. He is under 6 feet tall as well. He didn't really get a legit shot in the NBA even after being the G-League MVP. He was as good as he was going to get, but "limitations" (age and height) by NBA standards are what kept teams from giving him a legit chance.
@undergroundrailroadnews7434
@undergroundrailroadnews7434 9 месяцев назад
@stonecoldku4161 I understand your point of view, and all your points are valid.I just feel like when you take into account his situation in college with KU Bill Self is one of those system coaches who does not maximize the talent he has just plugging kids into that. Plus, I'm from Petersburg, and when you would read articles about him, I honestly thought he was 6'5 "until I saw him in college. I never saw him play in high school, but I graduated from PHS and followed the basketball team for years. There were a few players in the league, and one top 35 talent, I think, with the right opportunity he could shine.
@stonecoldku4161
@stonecoldku4161 9 месяцев назад
@@undergroundrailroadnews7434 I agree with the "right opportunity" he could shine, but unfortunately finding the right opportunity in the league is hard to come by. I mean look at Wiggins. He was having a decent career, but everyone thought he was underachieving given his athleticism. He leaves the Timberwolves, goes to the Warriors and becomes an All-Star and NBA champion. Given that Frank was 23, that window to find the right opportunity was going to be small. Plus, I think that working within that Bill Self system *is* what maximized his talent. He went from one of the guys on a college team to being *the* guy in all of D1 college basketball and he certainly wasn't going to get drafted prior to that year. Bill Self I think gets a bad rep for not developing NBA talent, but he's put 38 players in the league and 7 of his former players have won 8 NBA championships. Calipari has put the most players in the league and only two of them have won championships and they were both one and done guys. All but one of Self's NBA champion players were Juniors or Seniors when they left the program.

@stonecoldku4161
@stonecoldku4161 9 месяцев назад
Depends on your definition of great pros. I mean if winning an NBA championship means anything then Kansas has had 7 different players win 8 titles since Bill Self has been there. One was a Center, and another was a PF all the rest were guards.
@JimBrownski
@JimBrownski 9 месяцев назад
@@stonecoldku4161 i mean Will Perdue has 3 or 4 rings, does that make him a great? I can tell you are clearly a KU fan, but don’t pretend Kansas has had great guard play. JoJo White in the 70sis probably the ONLY KU guard that was very good in the NBA. We all know the best KU players have been Forwards and Centers. They are always led by rah rah 5’11- 6 footish undersized pgs and shooting guards that don’t translate to the league for anything nyg other than role player status. It’s one thing to win NBA titles, it’s another being an IMPACT PLAYER on a chip. Chalmers is the only I can think of in the Bill Self or Roy Williams Era, and Jacque Vaughn. Nobody checking for Kansas Guards. Lol I’m a Gtown fan and take away AI and Sleepy Floyd, we don’t put out good guards either

Being on a championship team doesn’t impress me unless you were a big straw in the drink. Wiggins definitely counts, I’ll even give Chalmers credit. The rest were just on the team. Braun is not an impact player. Just a good 10 minutes of breather in Denver. Show me the starters on a chip
@stonecoldku4161
@stonecoldku4161 9 месяцев назад
@@JimBrownski I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on having to be starter and have an impact. I mean Joker said that Braun was the reason they won game 3 of the finals. Morris (not a guard granted) had some big games in the playoffs that helped get LA to the finals and Lebron his fourth title. Lebron gave a shout out to Sasha Kaun (again not a guard) during the Cavs chip celebration for helping the team get better even if he wasn't on the floor. Brandon Rush was a piece of one of the Warriors chips and part of that team that had the most regular season wins ever. And not including guys that won chips Kirk Hinrich had a long successful career in the NBA. Kelly Oubre Jr. is having a good career. Are these guys All-Stars? No, but I wouldn't call them "trash" in my opinion. Devonte Graham is another guy that's doing well. If you have a different opinion that's fine and we can agree to disagree on things.
