Great vid Jay, a year old and only 5k views...deserves a million. I played many years of football, most coaches have no idea what strength and conditioning is and how to apply it safely for their players, experienced first hand. For any of you younger guys that might be listening...get stronger in the off-season, not going to happen during the season, only going to wear you out. Repeat, you don't start a serious weight training program in-season, you won't recover fully, you'll have a higher chance of injury, you won't perform as well.

A Video for Football-Players (Soccer in the US) would be nice. Nice Video!

Excellent video! A very different approach to what is usually done. You should do a new interview with Mark Asanovich

In Body By Science Dr. McGuff writes exactly about this training approach. Love this common sense content!

It could be a same principle with Track athletes, particularly with sprinets :)

Definitely not a coincidence that you're wearing a Brady jersey. The whole TB12 philosophy/goals is for plyobility and longevity, hence why he is still an amazing player in his 40s. Love him or hate him, he trained exactly right!

The N.F.L. is a Quarterback intensive sport. Good Quarterback=Good team. Bad Quarterback=Bad team. All other team factors being equal. What needs to be addressed are the unnecessary training injuries. On field injuries will occur, but training injuries CAN be avoided.

So no strength training during a high impact collision sport like football? Sometimes the season goes pretty long. Wouldn't you find that some of the athletes lose their strength or become de-conditioned? Would lighter strength sessions make a difference?

He's not saying that; he's saying to avoid the dangerous Olympic lifts. They still workout & get stronger.

They have to be explosive, strength to mass ratio is what matters, of course they are going to get hurt is a full contact sports, it doesn’t matter how you train

Law of specificity. There is no transfer from Olympic lifts to explosiveness on the field. They would be wasting their time and increasing their risk of injury in a sport that is already extremely intense and has a high risk of injury, and they may inhibit their performance. If you want to get better at football, play more, if you want to get better at boxing, spar more, if you want to get better at Olympic lifts focus on those lifts. Playing football will not make you better at Olympic lifts and vice versa.

I remember in HS football my coach would have us doing that dumb ass explosive training. I remember thinking hancleans and all that shit was useless and stopped going to lifts; too taxing on my body for the results (overtraining) plus didn’t feel like wasting my time. He called me in his office one day for missing lifts. I explained to him that I thought it was more important to build muscle, and that mI wasn’t gonna be attending his lifts. He told me that a d1 football trainer gave him the program and he knew more than me; but I see now I was right all along. I lifted on my own all season and by next year I was starting on varsity junior year, still missing lifts lol

7:00 I almost forgot, this dumbass had us lifting weights the day before game day! I questioned him about why he would be so stupid and he told me the rival school that kicked our ass every year would do that and that was his reasoning. I’m convinced they just told his gullible ass that bullshit! I would just go through the motions; rather look weak in the gym than play weak on game day
