I'm so glad that I've found you and your crew Dave. You and minimalism has helped me to shift my focus and priorities in life. I'm 4 months or 37000sek away from being debt free, just in time for my 25th birthday. Greetings from Sweden and thank you for everything you do for people!

Should've used that 50k she donated to put in her savings, mutual funds or retirement fund. Now she has no house but $188k, living in her sister's house with no retirement fund and no emergency fund.

Yeah it definitely sounds like she will be needing that 50k more than her church.
@danielwilburn8080
@danielwilburn8080 2 года назад
@@shanep2760 The church uses that money to help other people. Tithing is a personal and spiritual choice. Giving 10% also allows you to manage the other 90% much better. Speaking of how the church helps people, I will say that I have people in my life that has had to rely on the church for temporary assistance when going through stuff and it helped them go through a lot. The counter argument to this is “well you shouldn’t help others if you can’t help yourself.” And to that I say, giving 10% of what you make will help you spend the other 90% better. And God does say he will bless you if you tithe and to test him on this. He does not say it will bring monetary value, but I have seen that happen often. If you don’t believe in any of that, well, then that’s what she believes. Anyways, Happy Thanksgiving

She needs to put that money into some kind of a retirement account as soon as she gets a job that possibly can give her some benefits, or any job at all for that matter. They definitely do not need to be throwing all of this money into land when there is no steady income coming in

This call got worse by the second. She is actually in a really bad situation. She haven't worked in decades, she has no financial literacy, she's 54 years old, no retirement, and a really bad plan for the money.

@@matthewgardner2144 I’ve known plenty of people in my life that have been helped by the church during times of need. It was just what they needed at the time to get them through hard times and it’s a beautiful thing to see and be a part of. Maybe don’t be so quick to make assumptions of her church. I’m sure you’ve had a bad experience at a church, but try asking for help from multiple. I’m sure you’d find it :)
@aleahuggins
@aleahuggins 2 года назад
Perhaps her church will graciously help her if she needs it later in life. However, I have to agree that donating so much money given her financial situation, which is dire, wasn't a wise move. If she ends up with $50k in medical bills from an unexpected accident or illness, is her church going to pay it for her? Maybe if she's incredibly lucky, but I'd bet unlikely.

@TheEtherealgrl
@TheEtherealgrl 2 года назад
Things they glossed over- "we" are going to buy land - who is we? Are you and your sister buying it together? If so what are the legal implications of that? Second....15-20k is this woman's recommended 3-6 month emergency fund? Her expenses are currently 300 bucks a month.
@a33m3a
@a33m3a 2 года назад
But when emergencies come up, the emergency doesn’t sit around and decide how much it’s gonna cost based on your living expenses. If her car entirely breaks down and she needs a new car, $900 won’t get her anything. I think an emergency fund should be based on your monthly expenses unless your expenses are really low, then it should at least be $10k
@pisces3121
@pisces3121 2 года назад
He's basing that figure off what is a realistic amount of $$ needed. She's living in a dream world to think $1800 in savings will be enough for an emergency. Never know how long her sister and she will live together etc.
