LTA is very arrogant and I just hope the government change the leaders inside LTA to more people centric and people caring ones. It is total nonsense that no existing technology can fit the people's requirement. All we need to do is to tailor made, bespoke tech. It is true that a overly fat person cannot find clothes that fit his size but he can always tailor made his clothing though that may costs more.
I really hate to say this but the technocrats simply are not concerned about elderlies who either do not have handphones or are technology averse, on the need to go another layer to check the fare deductions and remaining amount. This reversal of the SimplyGone system by June is a good lesson to these ivory tower technocrats.
The SimplyGo failure is due to misinterpretation of the data. 2 in 3 adult user using the SimplyGo doesn't means it is popular. Many people switch to SimplyGo due to misinformation that SimplyGo is better and also due to the cash incentive to attract people to switch. There are many people who regret switching to SimplyGo after they lost the ability to see the balance instantly at the gate.
I use simply go with my you trip card. One can always check the balance in the app. One can also check your dailly usage and top up as such. a bit extra if you are worried. What9s the problem?
We have high paid people who do not need public transport deciding in armchairs how the public should do public transport . Bound to crash the whole system. Totally disconnect. Time to require all highly paid MOT people to travel by the very public they are in charge or sack everyone from the Minister down. While it may be valid coffee shop talk, I really wouldn't think the LTA would stoop so low to attempt to 'boost their profits' in this way. Singapore Authorities need to rein in their "smart" employees to slow down all these rapid effort to make the people "smarter". Do all necessary survey first and don't try to force any new scheme down the throats of the public. That forced adoption was the big mistake made in this "simply go (away)" saga. However it is a credit to the new Transport Minister to admit the defect and correct it straight away. That is a good practice.

Basic rule. Never make decisions without proper feasibility study and an escape plan when things go wrong. Wasted time and resources that could be used to enhance other transportation woes.
What is most needed now is to enhance public transport commuters' travels experience. For example, start building sheltered walkway and 100% sheltered bus stops for every bus stop not only for those at interchanges. Make taking public transport more user friendly and more will do so. It really is not rocket science.
The Singapore government was so used to arbitrary implementation in various instances that comes without getting public approval. This is part of a push to a digital system with a social credit score where use can be denied on flimsy grounds.

I wonder whether LTA is still a key destination organization where senior retired army officials are placed for their second career? If so, this less than optimal human resource selection could be a contributing factor to the 'corporate culture' of LTA. There have already been some major fiascos in the past, like fatalities due to dangerous right turning traffic at junctions (still not fully corrected over the years), expensive but useless roadside digital messaging of destination times (quietly phased out), frequent breakdowns (now resolved) of MRT services because of negligence and inadequate infrastructural maintenance. I hope LTA can do a better job at a standard expected of Singapore.
2019 march decision for the simplygo port over , then, National Development Minister was Iswaran. Not sure who was the agency made that decision. Likely joint-committee decisions from MND and LTA.
As acting minister, you are kept in the loop about the matter. Since you are driven to work daily and perhaps not taken public transport in a long time you should try it out yourself for several months and observe what people go through. Listening to the technocrats about how good the new system is and ability to save money is already a sign that it can't be this simple.
You ask Chee Hong to take public transport, bus or mrt. He may get slap or rotten eggs thrown at him. The super ball carrier dare not even appear in any shopping mall.
Singapore appears to be efficient, people outside see it that way. In reality there are many kincks that outsiders do not see. Singapore is not an euthopia that outsiders see. It is a place for the rich. Take the cost of HDB flats. Young buyers are burdened for 25 to 30 years such that their CPF i.e. supposed to be a retirement fund, is drained and tied up in the flat. It cannot be liquidated as then one has no roof. It is the government's modus to accumulate reserves and tying up the buyers funds to be used by the government. It is one of their major source of income in the coffers.

Adult monthky concession pass does not "simply go" too as one still need to hold a separate adult monthly concession card to use the concession pass, very digital indeed. And the concession pass does not have auto renewal and one needs to purchase it month after month. How hasslefree
While it is good and highly desirable to go digital, it is too dangerous to put everything into the phones. Who knows, if someone perhaps an "inside job" - and one wave at the terminals with your phone will cause the bank accounts found in that phone to be EMPTIED?
Why suddenly policy u-turn? First time in singapore history. Should be general election coming and 1/3 population does not want simply go. Simply too risky to lose vote. Goverment should not mentioned they need to spend extra $40 million, they can avoid it if they listen to feedback.

As usual, LTA behave like its master the PAP using its draconian method to rule. No wonder there is this saga, remember the transport minister was the then corrupt minister Iswaran. What LTA should do is improve its SimplyGo system technically, meeting what the other ABT system etc. that can do and also provide incentives and ease of method to upgrade, once upgraded is successful, then dismantle the old system. The brute force method is just one of the many draconian authoritarian ways PAP handle the country. The biggest problem PAP government is facing is not this but rather the ever increasing inflation (don't look at the high level official numbers, look at the daily costs surrounding you), and despite this, LHL still increase GST from 7 to 9% annually. Yes they tried to sweeten the deal by giving some rebates here and there, but Singaporeans are not stupid, these rebates are only one time efforts, the costs will increase and people forever suffer from it and also the rebates are insufficient to cover the increased costs. We should have more opposition into the country to countercheck and challenge this draconian government.

Why change millions consumers habit to use back work system and spend $40 millions to repair, so what amount of money loss to simplygo and who makes the money for simplygo and who makes the money to repair. Must be the same company. decision makers must ne held responsible
There could be many mistakes, we do not get to know about it. To err is human. Technology should be able to solve this problem. Perhaps there is a lack of understanding of the ground level. It is not surprising this idea comes from the middle or higher level of the society. One must understand that there are three basic levels. Those in the middle level now, will eventually be the lower level one day because of the cost of living and the incomparable growth of income. Education level will raise and so the matchable salary. The middle may earn 5 to 7 thousands and can survive at the current rate. In the long run due to several constraints, these people will not be able to catch up with the new generation that can acquire degree or degrees to match needs of employer at that time. Their salary will roll to fit the raising cost of living, leaving those older workers becoming less valuable to command higher salary to straighten out with the high cost of living, therefore becoming the ground level. This is a life circle with time. So knowing this fact, understand the ground level at all times when affecting all three levels to minimise possible problems.

COE is one of the Greatest revenue generators invented in the world though no other country adopted it after abt 30 years. If you block a road, road users divert to alternative roads because alternatives exist. So, high COE eg. $150k does not address human need for using a car by way of many ways. No doubt a lot of people are glued to their handphones, but since the old system works just fine, why should we waste time to download a new app which takes up extra space and data?

Give a thought to those elderly passengers who are not well verse with smart phones. So should all supermarts, restaurants, fast food outlets etc stop issuing receipts and ask customers to check for their payments from the apps? One of the reasons for making changes is to implement new features that will bring convenience and improvement to end users but what lta did is simple going the other direction.
