Visually Siouxsie was the female equivalent of Bowie, with her myriad of looks & styles throughout the mid-late 70's until the 90's. She truly inluenced a generation by her own unique style alone, aside from the musical legacy.

@ 06:00 You assert that _'Kaleidoscope'_ (1980) was inspired by The Police. Well, maybe production-wise, with the album having had the same producer in common with The Police's first few albums (Nigel Gray) but that's hardly the same thing as being inspired by them musically. Perhaps I'm wrong, maybe you've heard Siouxsie say she was a Police fan, but I doubt it somehow...doesn't sound like something she'd say😆

@@amandajaynewoodhall Thanks (decided to edit to just the one point). I grew up with The Banshees - although only experienced them live once in the 80s. You make good points about some of the more controversial moments of the group's early days, eg the Swastika thing being more of a way of telling the older generation it was time to move on from sacred cows and look toward a new century.. Anyway it was a good piece, peppered with humour and obvs I'm gonna say you have good taste! :D

@@dee_seejay I'm gonna say that your reason for wearing a swastika as 'it's time to move on older generation', is very philosophical and probably far from her mind at the time. I think it was merely to agitate with ironical humour. Simple as that. I could be wrong, but ... I could be right

There was definitely NO musical inspiration. The only link is Nigel Gray the producer. The nearest you could link would be cetain production techniques possibly. The idea of Siouxsie being a Police fan.. Nah. Things were tribal back then. They were different tribes. the Banshees were quite singular with a heady arrogance - hence the tag 'The Most Elitist Band In The World' - I actually loved that tag - they had such singular self belief in their art (even if it was bravado). In certain cities you could get the shit kicked out of you being from different musical tribes (punks vrs rockers, etc). Sioux & Severin would've sneered at the cod reggae of the Police. Happy House used a reverse reggae beat with musicians in some cases swapping their instruments. Kaleidoscope was a truly experimental new wave album. A pivotal album for the band to start exploring their art, post punk. Most punk bands were pub rock bands with spikey hair gelled up. The Banshees always had that self determination & self belief & were true fans of music & its glamour. I'm STILL waiting for a definitive documentary to be made about them. It's high time.

Lived in the Midwest, was into punk, alternative , world music in '80s. L9ved Souixie Souix! Few people around here knew who they were as well as most of my "weird" musical interests! Got the last laugh though. 😎

No mention of Nocturne, the live doublealbum that was the crown upon the first era...? The first 5 albums stand out and the tracklist of the livealbum is solid prove, making it a perfect testament for that era...

Wrong! She didn't hate The Beatles, her older sister loved them & both Sioux & Severin loved The White Album. They chose Dear Prudence because they felt it was unfinished & a lesser known track.

No, you're wrong. Siouxsie said she loved the Beatles and the Banshees actually covered three songs by them, although "Blue Jay Way" was only done live. She didn't realize "This Wheel's On Fire" was written by Bob Dylan until the Banshees covered it and nearly dropped it when she found out.
