Thank you. I spent many years feeling that I knew everything I needed to know to get a car worked and painted, only to find it was "EGO". It wasn't until I started "The Paint Spot", that I was exposed to all the folks behind the scenes (chemist's, scientist's, coatings experts, and real "in the trench technical experts". Thank God for "MATRIX", or nothing I just mentioned would have mattered. Without boring ya'll with too much science, my goal is, and has always been, to "give back" by way of dispelling BULLSHIT........and you would not believe all the grief I get for it! Thank you for the understanding, and the willingness to accept what I'm attempting to accomplish here. :)
I would love to have you do my paint ... even though it would be about three days drive to get to your shop from where I live ... it would be time well spent, I think ...... 👍
One angle for some videos would be to cover (show) the entire process, with real customers. Initial goals they come in with, the questions and advice you give at the beginning, how the customer makes decisions that affect the project, then the actual project itself, the QA as you mention, and how the customer was managed or how they felt along the way. I imagine you have already thought this thru, and it's kind of a format on TV shows. I think that describing the decision-making processes (the choices, pros/cons, insights, variables) makes for rich content. Really interesting. Subscribed. Thanks.
Well, since I no longer do customer vehicles at SLIX, that might better be "a day in the life of Rick at The Paint Spot". I've never liked the idea of TV SLIX. It's come up several times in the past, and I always turned away. I had kids to raise so SLIX was my job. The show biz stuff would have taken me away from them even more than I already was, and (I think) would have sent the wrong message to them, as well as ya'll. I am "REAL", and "REAL" is where I want to be. :)
Well, I'm finishing the front fenders right now. Had to fabricate a fresh air induction system due to fender well headers and original location of incoming air (not to mention there's NO a/c in this car). I will see if we can come up with a video of all that's happened since ya'll saw this project. We all have our "slot", and mine is actually getting a car built :( Or :) ?
Do you (The Paint Spot) sell the Clausen polyester primers that you recommend? I’ve done lots of paint and body work over the years on my own restorations, and this is the first I’ve heard of it. I too drank the PPG kool aid and was less than happy with the results on more than one occasion. Always thought that I made a mistake somewhere even though I followed the P bulletins to the letter. Clausen will only sell 4 gallons of primer at a time on their website and for a hobby guy like myself, I’ll never need more than a gallon at a time. Love your old school approach to restorations and look forward to more content. Liked and subscribed
