Alright, imagine this - the "15-Minute City" pops up in conversation. What's the first thing that comes to your mind? Walkability, proximity, or maybe density? Sure, those are the core ideas, but social equity is what's truly at the heart of the 15-Minute City philosophy.
We'll explore how this concept benefits everyone and creates a better future for all of us. So, join me on this journey where urban planning meets community empowerment.

Absolutely love the vintage style editing and color balance you have going on. Additionally, your focus on social equity is really refreshing especially from someone in your unique perspective of not being able to drive even if you wanted to. Really helps tell it apart from your average urbanism channel.

Wow I can’t believe I almost missed this video. This was a really important reminder to me that social equity really needs to be a main focus when talking about 15 minute cities. I’ve gotten a little lazy in my conversations about them recently and honestly my own action in the community. Thanks Devin!

Great video, Devin. The older I get, the more passionate and involved I am in wanting to ensure that urbanism and equity become the norm in America.

Great video Devin and as someone who tries to avoid driving as much as possible your videos are great food for thought and so well done! I like in Tempe, AZ, near Arizona State and though my area is good for bicycles, it is still car centric - great food for thought on social equity, thank you!

as long as we don't quit our crippling addiction to cars and car dependent city design even 15min city won't fix this mess. people are addicted to a society who is car supremacist and subsidizes cars over everything else. this society is sick and whatever it does won't help

This 15 minute plan has been used for decades. It was the blueprint for Soviet housing

It's been used for centuries, even before they knew what a minute was.

Yes, exactly. 🙂 Place de Ralliement. It's a really great urban space in a relatively small city.

I don't want to live in a city, 15 min or otherwise. Are they suggesting everyone live in an urban environment ? Better to be controlled ?

More people want to live in 15 minutes cities than the availability of it in the US. Because our 15 minutes cities are so few, they are so expensive. If we had more choices, those choices were more affordable. There would still be plenty of places where everyone to choose where and how they want to live.

If you don't want to live in a 15 min city, than don't go live there.

Is the 15 in 15 minute cities an average or a minimum or maximum walking distance? What of an 75yo with a slight disability vs a fit 22 yo?
@devinsilvernail
@devinsilvernail 3 месяца назад
It's an average. Another way to think about it is having daily essentials within 1/4 mile of your home. Groceries, healthcare, leisure, hardware stores, banks, childcare/education, public transportation, etc.

@@devinsilvernail Oh that would be good. In my town a person walking to the outpatient chemotherapy clinic would take 3 hours walking. So under the 15 minute city model, my town would place about 25 smaller clinics. Well, full outpatient care about day procedures.

I have a suggestion..if you really want a changes in the us.first is make a connect with other youtuber who wants changes also you must build a large group then find a politician who are open minded then present why us need to change urbanism.because if you talk only in youtube to be honest you and other youtber are wasting tym
