Isolated like you, but with all amenities of a flat and a fridge and a car and..., I think of you, and I wish you well! Hope you stay virus-negative and the weather stays calm. Best wishes from Germany, Paul
NZ goes into total lock down from midnight Wednesday NZ time for 4 weeks and longer if necessary, only essential services still running. My wife's work carries on as normal as she works with chickens for food. Lovely to see you again girl, please stay safe up your way. All the best
The worst thing about this virus is the fear and panic it is / has caused I like you have been observing the guidelines and have only been out of the house once in the last 7 days but a lot of folk seem to be taking it with a pinch of salt . I saw another n/boat channel where one commenter said the CRT have wavered the moving regs and you can stay put if you wish ( I cannot confirm this but it's worth checking ) Stay safe stay well .
Thanks for the update, and keep the videos flowing, even if it is ''Corona survival recipes using residual food discovered at the bottom of the cupboard.... from another self isolated person in Turku, Finland...
hi there stuart, I have always wanted to visit Finland because I love the moomins, I want to go to moominland I once did a job as moomin and snorkmaiden it was the best weekever!
You & Seb take great care of each other. You do what has to be done to get your wonderful dialogue out to us. Even waaaaaay over here in northern CA. I'll keep a look out. K?
For your university work, you might look into a raspberry pi. They run off usb (the are displays as well), so you can power them from cigarette lighter adapters.
Glad to see you safe and well, into my second week of self isolating typical that sun comes out today again, really looking forward to the guitar playing 🙂
Be safe and be well. Here in North Carolina, I live a small mountain town and yesterday we had our first reported case. On Mondays, I'm a cook at a soup kitchen providing meals for shut-ins and the homeless. They will be getting their last meals from us today. We are being told to stop serving even though we have only been serving to-go meals for a few weeks. Once the first confirmed case was reported we are to stay at home, all of us. I fear things have changed maybe for a long time.
I know it's not going to be very useful at this point (due to shipping being slow AF at the moment and maybe not being able to go pick up packages from wherever you get packages delivered to), but it is entirely possible to charge your laptop off 12 volts, though obviously not with the standard charger. They DO make laptop car chargers, so assuming you already have a cigarette-lighter-style outlet available that's a pretty good solution (they CAN get a tiny bit expensive, but I just looked them up and they're not as bad as I was expecting, the most expensive one I saw on Amazon was £35). If you're feeling a little bit more adventurous you can get a DC-DC Boost Converter that takes a range of DC voltages as input and outputs a selectable voltage (usually using a dial to tune what voltage you want). They are quite a bit cheaper at around £5, you'd just need to acquire a jack that fits your laptop, some two-conductor cabling, and a plug for whatever kind of power outlet your boat has (if you have to buy them all brand new the car charger option might not be much more expensive, but if you can scavenge from other things, like a broken lamp or something, then you might not have to pay much at all). They're actually extremely simple to use, it's literally just attaching wires to screw terminals, twiddling the knobs to dial in the right voltage, and putting the whole thing in a plastic box (so you don't accidentally touch something and get a minor zap).
Ahh, ok. Those boost converters do go up to over 1000 watts, so the only limitation would be what your boat can provide. Even with a lower wattage, it should still be possible to charge it at least, though it might take a really long time and you probably wouldn't be able to use it while it charges. Whether it's worth the effort is a different question.
There are several 12 volt laptop chargers on Amazon for under $25 (US) if you search for "12 volt charger for laptop". I look forward to your videos and hope you can continue to make them. Take care and stay well!
I can't get post or viset a friend who might have recived post for me. Also they don't make these for my laptop it's too power greedy it's got a good battery life so not usally an issue
@@ThisNarrowboatAdventure Some boat builders set a unpowered "chill" cabinet into the deck. Well below the waterline and several degrees colder than ambient boat temp.
Nice to hear from you! My two Pfennig from my vast experience of watching narrowboat videos for at least four weeks: Looks like you'd need an inverter to provide AC power(?) Stay healthy, keep up the good mood, Paul
On a more serious note: 1) I apologize for the invasion into your privacy - it may have been a joke turned bad. 2) A small inverter may be an advantage for you, filling in for the need of those chargers. 3) For smartphones etc, a 12 V = car charger for USB (which you have of course). (edited)
God bless and we wish you and yours not but happiness, health, wealth and calm waters.if you have the chance to move I would do so now.the further away from urban areas the better.best of luck.
thank you for the lovely thoughts and kind words. I think if I move out of London ill be part of the problem contributing to possibly spreading it at least here I can do my volunteering and be of some use
In UK the supermarkets are working hard to ensure food is available for all. To do this they are limiting the amounts each customer can buy. It would be super helpful if you could do some cooking videos demonstrating how to make healthy and nutritious meals that comply with the current restrictions :-) P.S. The restrictions are not that severe though you may find yourself using ingredients you may not normally select. This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your culinary creativity!
So far it hasn't really affected us , if I do a cooking video it will be with what I can get so kinda I will though I don't want every video in the next three months to be quarentine themed (particularly as youtube is stopping adds on them)
I can’t believe you can’t charge your laptop on 12 volts. Is that something weird with British laptops? Here in America we charge phones, and laptops in cars all the time, and that’s 12 volts.
Jasmin, I hope everything turns out okay for you and your friends. Since I don't have the virus, at this time, I feel like the people and the governments are taking this too serious. When we have a seriously bad flu season you don't see the people and the governments acting like they are with this coronavirus. I have a feeling there is more to this virus than we are being told. Wishing the very best of luck to you, your close friends and the far away friends. Oh, nice video. = )
hi john, the thing that makes this virus scary for me is that you are contagious for two weeks before you show symptoms and infect tons of people, that's why its spreading so fast.
I have been watching your videos for some time now ,and the more I watch the ,more I like you , It would be has a FATHER , because of my age , I think you are wonderful ,.
Since I retired last year, I have practiced social distancing, going out only about three times a week to shop and little else. So nothing has changed for me. Still doing whatever I want, which is almost nothing. Now for RU-vid content, I am still waiting for any clips of a skateboarding penguin. Wouldn’t that be fun?
Do you communicate with the fuel boats, or do they have a web presence where they post their scheduled routes, or do you just have to wait till they happen by?
Jasmine have you looked at using your phone to record and edit videos its basic I know but not as power hungry as the laptop and means you can get some some content out. Robbie filmed his channel on an phone or table for long enough and it wasn't easy to tell from watching, just a thought.
Great video.. As a continuous cruiser the UK governments advise is stop all unnecessary travel but Cart advise to continue cruising .. how do you feel about this contradiction?
Re: "I'm sorry if this isn't quite right for your particular country", oh, that's okay, my particular country ain't quite right, anyway. ;) But, back to being serious, the lunch to breakfast time conversion is pretty close since here in central Missouri on Daylight Saving Time we are where 11am for me is 4pm for you.
@@ThisNarrowboatAdventure Yes, 2pm, aka 1400, for you is 9am for here. With several neurological, endocrine, immunological, diseases including ME/CFS sometimes my brain gets foggy so on time zone questions I usually just go straight to a website named worldtimezone, dot com. It can be set for 12 hour or 24 hour clock.
Another interesting vlog J. Charging your laptop; presumably you don't have an inverter? The internet is awash with 12v inverters, full sine wave and modified sine wave. Cheap as chips. Or invertors purely for charging laptops, Google is your friend. If you don't have to be in London then leave. Pointless staying in the one place where the virus is most popular. Plenty of shops desperate to sell stuff as they must to survive so just a case of walking to nearest from towpath, you know this anyway. Live broadcasts, if energy an issue then cut them out completely and concentrate on vlogs. If you do the continuous cruising thing then that goes a long way to achieving self isolation. Don't suppose CRT want too many boaters to stay in one place too long as it puts an added strain on their ability to service and maintain their infrastructure. Very lastly, have you considered getting a composting loo? Build you own from scratch, or from a kit, or buy one ready made. Or buy a unit which comes complete with cornstarch derived bags containing some sort of desiccant powder so no need to separate the wee. The bags are totally plastic free, as in made from corn starch, so won't harm our environment. Or just buy the bags separately and bung in sawdust or animal bedding stuff, job done. Removes the angst of finding an Elsan point, and, as countless thousands of babies and their nappies would attest, you can put the "outcome" straight in the dustbin. Wee can be diluted and disposed of in the greenery if you opt for a separator unit. Doubtless some boaters have been doing this for years. Hope that helps?
Hi Ross, car charger doesn't exsist for my lappy it consumes too much. And we could get an inverter when this is all done but can't get post to the boat and we can't leave the boat....
@@ThisNarrowboatAdventureHmm, if you have a local shop, or Post Office in your local shop, the check with Amazon in drop down list for your location to see if said shop accepts Amazon delivery. That might work for you.
@@ThisNarrowboatAdventure If you are still feeling ok in a week then you might be fine. Have to say that getting out of London, if you're not tied job wise, might be a good option. Self isolation in a boat is easier for us ... just moor up in quiet area. I understand towpaths and parks may be "no go" areas soon so little chance of meeting people.
@@t1n4444 don't get me started on amazon's drop boxes, I'll just say I've never had much luck. I want to contine my volenteering so atm will stay in london.
I've been following the Aotearoa/New Zealand media because my local Australian media & politicians are trying to be as bad as their UK equivalents. www.thespinoff.co.nz is good. Stay safe! Does this mean we actually get to see the secret hairy man? Exciting!
Been told by the charity that all volenteers at this particularly charity are key workers and have been given a letter incase of lock down... they do kindly let me power my laptop but that isn't why I am going there. and when I do I am walking there in a mask and keeping 2m away from people and once there washing hands , washing equipmentand everyone is adhering to social disdencing rules. Didn't think anyone would care to know since its not about boating.
