Thanks Rob, spent a month solo in Peru... life changing in many ways. Agree 100% with ya, odd at first, then its amazing! In January ill be in Phillipines for 3 weeks, and your 90 day video is a wealth of knowledge! Thanks again for sharing your story, advice, and the hope of finding a genuine woman. Its unbelievable how difficult it is in the states! Hopeium is a wonderful drug 😅🎉🍻
Another great video! Rob, I'm a loyal follower and world traveler. I've been to 86 countries and all seven continents. The only thing I'm not buying in your stories is that you have a limited income. You don't circumnavigate the world without some cash! Traveling is expensive, even when you stay in budget hotels. You just don't fit the mold of someone who didn't plan ahead! You are smart, articulate, creative, and good with women. (Just an observation) I'm sure you don't want others to know where you came from and how much you have in assets, but I can't wait until you tell us the rest of the story!
Great story. Yes, I think traveling solo is best. I think the first step must be to know what you want in life. The second is to provide yourself with the greatest potential to achieve your goal by freeing yourself of hinderances. And the third is to actually take the risk and to seize the resulting opportunities presented. Of the three, I think it is the follow through, the actual seizing of opportunities that people have the most problem with. The world is full of dreamers…some even take the second step…but to have success, one must take the final step…to take the risk. I think in order to have the courage necessary, one must realize that failure is not only possible, but likely…at first. But the key to ultimate success is being able to rise one time more than being knocked down. It is far better to die failing, but still trying, than to have failed from the beginning by not having even tried. This is what makes life an adventure worth living.
Maybe your best video Rob and a must see. I have been doing solo travel for 13 years to much of the world and you are spot on. If your a older guy, but take care of yourself and have a youthful personality you will be surprised there are more options then you think. Flexibility and last minute will get you great deals on everything. Meet people on a cruise from Florida and talk to them and you will find they pay very little. A empty cabin, hotel room, or AirBNB makes ZERO when empty, so use that to your advantage.
Really enjoy you and Chrissy's videos, and yes I have been travelling solo for many years and although at times it can be lonely, there are many benefits. You can change your itinerary anytime , also I find I meet more locals and often invited to there home for meal or spend you time chatting. You can get a real feel for a place doing this. I have gained some international Facebook friends too. Now just retired mid 60's so will spend more time travelling and have the Philippines on the list.
I just returned from my first solo trip. 10 days in Merida and Valliadolid Mexico with a small backpack and no agenda. I'm already planning Puerto Rico in February and Southeast Asia in April. Thanks for all of the tips and encouragement!
Hi Rob, another great video. Interesting to hear your initial feelings about solo travel. I was wondering if it was just me who had these feelings. I have travelled a fare bit during my career but it was for business/work purposes and did not think that much of it. I have travelled for vacations to resorts, etc, but always with my family/kids. I have not travelled “SOLO” before so my trip (April) to the Phil’s will be my 1st “SOLO”! Funny how does feels much different. I look at it as an adventure and life experience.
Great to hear from you and thanks for sharing. It’s a process you just have to work through it. I compare it to a deck of cards they’re not all aces, kings and queens, but the deck has its fair share of good moments just like good cards in a deck if you if you stay with it, you’ll get your fair share.
Another good video. I really appreciate how much effort you guys put in to your videos. You can even make the more mundane subjects ( budgets) interesting with your humour. thank you and, as always, I am looking forward to your next one. Cheers
I relate to the comments about the difference in spending money when traveling alone vs with a woman. Alone -- more value hotels; buy food at the grocery; etc. Maybe a discussion with Chrissy on how you and her make the adjustments between the expectations and comfort that she might have vs how you would spend if traveling alone.
Excellent story I have being doing solo travel around the world also in a period of 15 years and my experiences are very similar to yours the only difference is that I am not retired yet. I still teaching at University here. Thank you did great job with your with your analysis and recommendations for solo travels.
I’ve just returned from solo travelling around East Asia including the Philippines I loved it. I’m seriously thinking of heading back especially to the Philippines
Hello Rob, thank you so much for your insight and honost sharing of your experiences. We do appreciate greatly 🙏. Even though I'm not from California, I'd like to adopt you as my brother. So much we share in the mind set. You, Pio and Gio are very helpful to all of us. Thank you kindly.
Watching your videos coming in a week for a month. Coming with a friend that is married to a Philippina . I’m married from Tennessee and love to travel exmilitary 30 years retired. Now a 60 year old told my wife to come or stay but I’m seeing the world. I hate the cold so this is my first trip but each year January and February getting on a plane to a new adventure.
i really enjoyed listening to your experience right to the end. the tips are great, eg last minute deals, not eating at restaurants at nite, staying at hostels with a private room (if older). travelling light - taking just one pr tennis shoes, not taking jackets for Phillipines, importance of mosquito repellent & sunscreen. you didn’t mention medical insurance. what is your plan if you’re old (say 80’s) & have unexpected stroke or heart attack in a 3rd world country like Phillipines? nice to attend private hospital if you can’t fly home. i’m from Australia.
Thanks so much, I carry safety wing travel insurance when traveling and have a local plan here, however it can be hard to get travel insurance after 72? Not sure. 🤔
Great video. Spent 3 weeks in Davao City last month on a solo trip and it was good. You can find nice one bedroom Airbnb’s for 25/night and there us plenty to do and see without doing excursions. Life is too short to just think about it. Plan it and go!
Another great video Rob, thank you. I just finished up 3 weeks in and around Cebu on a solo adventure and am already looking forward to returning next year for some island hopping. I'm not allowing my marital status to hold me back from living my best life. I AM looking for the right outgoing filipina to enjoy it with though! ;)
Wow, this video is very informative for me. You describe me to a tee, leaving out the alcohol 😂 Throughout life I have learned some crowd communication skills, although I also do not like to be alone. I love excursions however I don’t like to travel alone. Yes, I realize it’s better to travel alone rather than not travel. 😊 I work with approx 1200 Filipinos so I love most of their culture with a few glitches 😊 Through meeting them I have watched MANY RU-vid videos on Filipino culture, pros vs cons , foods , dating , excursions I especially like your honest, common sense videos. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
welcome to cagayan de oro though its been quite late..just came across your channel days back..although not originally from cdo since am from valencia, bohol but lived here since graduated high school and now in my mid 60s and found it suitable for me despite traffic going more crazy than in the 80s..God bless you bro and your fiancee ..
This is really great info. I've been planning to jump off in the next year and currently making plans for my slow travel adventures. I was curious how to integrate into my lifestyle. This will help alot as I've taken overseas vacations already and joined tour groups and had a blast.😅
I'm solo. When I bring or go with friends or a woman. I wished I'd have gone alone. In Philippines, people always expect me to have a gf along. I currently have a gf, we don't live together and she has a job. She understands I'm retired and I go places alone. I live in Mactan, Lapu-Lapu now. It's a great hub for solo travel.
I’m curious, did you keep your assets in the US such as a home or car? I’m struggling with jumping in with both feet by selling everything or do I keep and lease my house. If I ever need to come back to the US I wouldn’t be able to buy the level of house I currently enjoy.
Actually it was cheap- I put together discount airfare- Sydney to Phoenix was expensive- everything else was cheap maybe $2,500 - 5 nights traveling east sleeping on plane saved money- I would spend hours researching flights and itineraries. Plus $100 per day food, hotel, excursions and ground transportation
You feel "uncomfortable" dining by yourself? You feel weird going to museums alone? How did you manage when you were travelling internationally for business? It seems that your personality isn't suited for solo travel in the true sense of the term - but then many people are like that. And so now, you're getting ready to "settle down" with your fiancée. Good luck to you.
You've traveled more than I have, but I've traveled a bit. I agree, traveling by yourself is rewarding, but, I have found as you grow older, it gets more difficult. I think modern AIRPORT travel especially cumbersome. Thinking back, I often traveled with a girlfriend and loved it when they let me sleep in before my flight, supported me and held onto the credentials, and were more adept at tech than me. As far as luggage, yeah, if traveling to a warm country, it's a good strategy of wearing on body carry on and your wheeled carry-on. I am 188cm tall, weigh 98kg and wear size 14 shoes. If I wasn't, I'd have an easier time. I NEVER stand at a carousel waiting for baggage. Get the frick out of Dodge, change some money, and try not to get ripped off on transportation. I used to pre book longer term accommodation, but prefer 'boots on the ground' arrangements for longer term accommodation. Book a room for a couple of day's, scope out the landscape and find a better deal through the locals. I recall my first visits to the Philippines. I kept traveling, had some great experiences, but forgot about my original intentions after my last one night stand. To find a partner. I have a background in logistics. Here's my analysis of maximizing your strike rate of meeting girls. There are a few things to consider, but as I said, my specialty is logistics. The Philippines is a nightmare in many ways, but kinda easy to decipher. You can meet more women in a medium to smaller city than you can in the larger cities. This is due to time and transportation. It's different than where you're used to. It takes 3 hours to travel what usually takes 30 minutes. You are more or less isolated to your 'Barangay'. Easy walking or trike distance from your place of abode. Why not make a city of 1000,000 people your 'Barangay'? Less traffic and less traveled women... A place where you are uncommon as a westerner. There are many places like this. For example, a place like Dipolog. Sure, the nightlife may be limited, but do you want a relationship with a woman you met at a bar? Wide open streets, a community atmosphere, girls who haven't slept with heaps of guys like you? Don't limit yourself to Manila, Cebu, or Dumaguete?
Hello, I am enlying watching your contents. I am planning to live two weeks or one or in thr Phillippines, are you rent a room for a sta y of this sort. I am 64 years old, I retitired 5 years ago. I am Korean near Seoul, 20 minutes form my place. Thanks.
