Loopholes like that happened in pretty much every country at some point. In Germany, somebody once got away with stealing electricity since the paragraphs on 'stealing' could only be applied to physical items or patents.
I think that would fall under "erschleichen von Dienstleistungen" meaning sneakily aquiring a service. This law is typically used for things like riding a train without a ticket.
Looking into it, the law defined "The term 'motor vehicle' shall include an automobile, automobile truck, automobile wagon, motor cycle, or any other self-propelled vehicle not designed for running on rails." It's technically true that an airplane is a self-propelled vehicle not designed for running on rails, but it's pretty clear they meant something specific. They clearly didn't mean to include boats and airplanes, but not trains. And the list of examples was there for a reason. It would set a pretty bad precedent to say that the law applied to literally every possible motor vehicle except for ones that go on rails, and by extension that a law listing examples doesn't do anything to narrow down what they mean. Also, the fact that they guy was still guilty of violating state law means he's not really getting away when they rule in his favor, so it's not that big of a deal.

Apologies for the pedantry, but having lived in the town for a brief period last year, I wanted to clarify that the correct pronunciation is, in fact, GUY-munn (as in, "This GUY is a know-it-all!), not Gwi-Mawn.
What an absolutely stupid supreme court decision. The justice even probably knew Latin. They knew vehicle means to carry. They just wanted to flex on the lower courts? Really wish they had explained this better 4:38 . Was it because common preceptions of a word overrode literary deffentions or because the law had a list that defined "motor vehicle".
Same thing happened in Saint Paul MN. A light rail ran the trains equivalent of a red light and hit a car killing the driver. They took it to court because the defense lawyers noted a loophole where the definition of motor vehicle didn’t include light rails. The company couldn’t even fire the operator because the union noted he didn’t break any company rules
The writing just keeps getting worse and worse. So little interesting information and so much schtick. I am finally unsubscribing because I just cringe all the time now while waiting to get to the subject material. Such a shame because the channels used to be much better. I know the answer is don’t watch then, and I will follow that advice, just wanted to speak up and voice my opinion because I used to like your channels.

Go to wendover in one of his videos like a few years ago he LITERALLY SAYS he is making his “that Wikipedia list” into a new channel called half as interesting
I really respect you for going out of your comfort zone and talking about planes like that. It can be scary and nerve-wracking talking about a topic that you have never, ever spoken about on a RU-vid channel for a topic. I commend your bravery.
