How strong is Minato? 

Strong enough to get his own manga.

The thing I like most about Minato is how seemingly simple yet highly efficient his fighting style is

Minato's chakra control is insane. He came back from a mission with jiraya where he faced 2 tailed beasts, told Kushina "sorry can't train with you on sealing jutsu, I want to train on my own today", goes into the forest, tries to create a Rasengan, doesn't work, Jiraya tells him about the hair whorl, light bulb lights up in Minato's head, BOOM Rasengan

I think the thing people don’t acknowledge about Minato when compared to the other powerhouses in the series is that all his feats come purely from his genius alone. All his feats were done from his own talent. From enhancing the uzumaki seal to his own version, to surpassing tobirama’s flyng raijin. He didn’t have the benefit of owning any of the eye powers or being a jichuriki. So when he gets compared to things like itachi if he was healthy or other eye users, it’s kinda not fair? I think I can best describe it as Minato being the pinnacle of what a normal ninja can become without the added benefits of having any of the eyes.

Reading that Minato chapter felt like the days of 2007-2014, reading Naruto weekly. The art felt nostalgic, the nuanced story telling showed us Masashi Kishimoto hasn’t lost a step, and Minato really did come across as strong. Hope we get one that shows us what happened to Hashirama after his battle with Madara. How he died, his grief, etc.

I always interpreted it as Minato had better Reflexes.. while the actual teleportation was the same, Minato could activate the jutsu faster.

So as comparison: Body Flicker is like what all Dragon Ball characters use to "teleport" short distances and Flying Raijin is like Instant Transmission

Minato is the embodiment of peak shinobi to me. He didnt come from a big well known clan (as far as we know), Chakra control & formation was class, and skill & battle tactic was astronomical. Mans took a jutsu from one of his Kage predecessors & vastly improved it, then proceeded to create his own jutsu inspired by the tailed beasts that could rival a tailed beast itself. Only thing he's trash at is actually naming certain jutsu's. Other than that dude just came from nowhere and proved he was that once in a generation talent & a rare breed.

Just read the one-shot manga and man, Kishimoto's art is so good. It was a nice trip down memory lane reading some new Naruto. Seeing Minato's intelligence was also cool. We finally get to see more of his genius level intellect displayed. That opening page felt like a flashback to the prime Naruto days of a decade ago. It was a great one shot and a treat to read.

That feat with him sealing the nine tails in Naruto is so underrated In that split second he rewrote a trigram seal, split the 9 tails seal half in him and the other in Naruto. Then seal himself and kushinas consciousness in Naruto’s seal n did a reaper death seal on top of it…. This has to be the greatest sealing feat in the series…

I think Minato's main strength is his heavy reliance on pragmatism. His main skillset is his speed, skill and his kunai. Keep in mind that most of his techniques doesn’t require hand signs which means he not only minimizes his periods of vulnerability, but he can instantly punish those who rely on jutsus with handsigns all the while keeping at least one hand free. What he lacks in firepower and flashy techniques, he more than makes up for with full effective use of simple techniques. And the fact that one techniques relies on a mark that stays with you forever means that once he's tagged you, so long as he's still breathing, you're basically screwed.

For the hashirama statement, I think kurama is referring to the fact that minato is able to suppress his power while not being an uzumaki or using wood release which is a biju suppressant. So minato’s skill level is that impressive and the only comparison to him is hashi

Make me rethink of how confident Minato was when he thought the mask man was Madara Uchiha he wasnt scared he was ready to run the 1s with Madara his name alone shook the 5 kage scarred

Minato was my favorite character, other from Madara. He's so badass and I love his design. I'm glad he's getting his own manga and he's definitely one of the best characters in the manga. It's funny how he still has one of the most overpowered jutsu and one of the fastest in the verse despite more Otsutsuki appearing with their overpowered abilities and speed. One of the saddest moments in the story to me was when the Edo Tensei was released and Minato was going back to Heaven and Naruto started rambling about what Minato should tell Kushina and they both were crying and Minato said he'll tell her everything and it was so heartwarming to me.

The coolest thing I like about Minato's fighting style is that it's all single-target based. He has basically no huge-AOE jutsu like so many other characters. He solos out one target at a time and hit them with as much power as he can, usually hand to hand with Rasengan.

I think Hiruzen's fear of Minato over Hashirama just comes from a time when the intended power scaling of the Hokage was different. Early-mid Naruto had a theme of "generational growth", with each new generation growing stronger by using and improving upon knowledge/techniques of the old. It would have made sense for Minato, the then most recent Hokage whose life had unfortunately been cut short, to be the strongest and most feared. Unfortunately it ended up growing a bit messy with Madara being a BIG deal, which meant Hashirama needed to be a BIG deal. And then it spiraled.

Man, I wouldn't mind a Minato mini-series. Maybe a tankobon or two of his missions and a little more depth into his character and his era. That would be cool.

I can't help but feel sorry for every single opponent in universe who fought Minato before his untimely death. Especially those who fell by him.

Minato's nickname has to come from his bodyflicker because flying raijin has no effects it's instant so saying he's a yellow flash because you see his hair doesn't make sense because he would be too fast for normal soliders to see but if he is using bodyflicker you would see his colors and his yellow hair is the most distinct thing about his color scheme because he was wearing a jonin outfit so yellow was the best color for people to recognize him

As a Minato fanboy, I enjoyed the one-shot a lot, and I’m seriously glad he won the poll. I do feel that it was essentially a way of Kishimoto retconning his retcon of *NOT* making the Fourth Hokage the strongest to have ever lived. Of course, he still isn’t the strongest, but I’d say this one-shot was Kishimoto’s way of saying “hey I nerfed this guy on purpose during the war but don’t get it twisted he’s HIM”. Just to remind the masses that he’s still top 3 non-SOSP characters (imo). Still would’ve preferred if they didn’t nerf him into the ground, but the one-shot made me happy!

He’s is on a power level Itachi fans think Itachi would be at if he was healthy. Also if not already mentioned in the video him and Itachi I think had the highest scores at the academy in history I think

I think another point to consider when minato clashed his rasengan with kurama, it's that kurama was still building up the biju bomb so it can't be said for sure that it's at full power, but nevertheless Minato is a goat.

Minato is so strong that he managed to influence people on Meta-Level so that they would pick him for a One-Shot

As far as that Viz Translation, context is also important. You sort of gloss over how he mentioned the Uzumaki Clan. Sure, Kurama mentions how Minato isn't even an Uzumaki, yet he's augmenting the tetragram seal in his own style. And then he calls Minato a most powerful shinobi, ranking alongside first hokage Hashirama, and says "unbelievable..." It's in that line, in the word unbelievable, that I think it's the most important clarification for what Kurama means. It might not necessarily mean "Minato is on par with Hashirama, they should totally do a 1v1 for the fans to argue over" he means "I am Kurama, the Nine Tailed Fox Demon, no mere human, shinobi or otherwise fazes me. THIS shinobi has done something so incredible and unexpected, that he has even surprised and impressed me, the only other shinobi I have ever encountered to commit such an act was first hokage Hashirama." Like, he considers Minato comparable to Hashirama BECAUSE Minato did something KURAMA HIMSELF described as "unbelievable". So I don't necessarily believe Teen Minato was like, as strong as the Hashirama Kurama remembers and references, but it's more along the lines of what you said, that they are cut from the same cloth, incredible shinobi that stand out among their peers, so powerful that they must receive acknowledgement from the greatest tailed beast.

Probably about as strong as the fourth hokage. Maybe even a rival for narutos dad too

The minato manga chapter was so well written, wow! So impressed and had a smile on my face the whole time. Super heart warming seeing how many lines it connected with the lore of naruto

I thought the difference between Minato and Tobirama in Flying Rajin was the amount of seals he can have as well as how fast he can activate it (without handsigns, while lesser users need handsigns, and others even need multiple people in a ritual and a long string of handsigns).

I think Minato's issue with Sage Mode is a combination of it not meshing well with his fighting style (which is all about maneuverability and Sage Mode requires even masters to hold still for a few seconds) and his habit of being too humble about his abilities (which plays into his tendency to hype up other shinobi that he could most certainly slaughter in seconds like the Sannin who in their base forms are around the level of sick Itachi if we go by databook 3's statistics).

Kurama s statement could also imply that minato has similar talent to that of hashirama but because he can’t use wood style nor use a perfect susanno nor dose he have kcm pre death he can’t fully attain nor surpass hashirama’s nor madaras level of power

Dude has insane chakra, 3 chakra natures, and mastered the flying rigin and even is able to teleport a whole biju bomb. He created the rasangon, mastered Sage mode witch gives him extra strength, speed, durability, and senses. He can also use his nature chakra to upgrade his jutsu. He can also summon the toads and the reaper death seal and he knows multiple uzumaki seals. He evens has the nine tails that gives him access to kcm1, and kcm2.

i didnt think i could love minato any more than i already did but that chapter had me so hyped i started hyperventilating and having a small panic attack from excitement. it was crazy

My personal theory is hiruzen was scared of edo minato because he knew minato is the only person there who could've left the barrier without breaking it with all the ftg seals he has around the village. He could've just left on orochimaru's order and wreak havoc on the village. Hiruzen couldn’t have done anything because he would've been trapped in the barrier. And before anybody mentions it. I don’t think tobirama had his seal spread around like minato did. Because if he did he could've just teleported his team to safety instead of sacrificing himself to let them escape.

If you have fought yourself you know that difference in speed is mostly based on reaction time, the time you take to actually move is the least important part. So thats probably what he excels at

No stupid cheat abilities (other than maybe Sage Mode). Just "regular" techniques, that theoretically anyone can learn, and he's just so damn strong. I always defended him when it came to discussions about whether or not he is on-par with Hashirama and I'm glad the new manga gives him the edge. He deserves it and the series needs a top tier fighter that doesn't just rely on cheats. His fighting scenes were by far the coolest because of all that and he's therefore my favourite character.

Minato's feat of cancelling out the 9 tail's bijuu bomb makes Obito's durability look even more insane. He got slammed directly with Minato's rasengan when he was significantly stronger and Obito survived. On top of all of the crazy shit Obito survived in the war, he's an absolute tank.

My interpretation, and honestly the only one that I think makes sense for Minato's Sage Mode is that Jiraiya has the body for it but not the skill, which is why he can maintain it imperfectly, while Minato has the skill but not the body, which is why his form is perfect but lasts for like actually 5 seconds, which would explain why he has a Perfect form that he himself states he has never used in combat.

Its cool how he can move so fast and still process that speed in his brain. Like for someone whobis without a sharingan or byakugan, his eyes sure can see everything faster than most (if not all) doujutsu users

Regarding Minato being of Hashiramas caliber is hard to believe, but it makes some sense. His trump card, flying thunder god literally requires multiple trained shinobi to use to teleport the kage to the battlefield. Here we have minato passing it around like candy, so his chakra levels have to be pretty insane.

I like to think that when Tobirama said his Shadow clone's flying raijin is too slow, he's referring to how the clone would take too long to initiate the jutsu. I think Swag is right in saying there shouldn't be varying degrees of speed when it comes to teleportation so, I imagine that Tobirama is talking about how using the jutsu will take too long to complete.

The scene in the war arc where the hokages came to battlefield. Minato actually got there first, teleported a bijuu bomb from the ten tails and even chatted with Naruto and Sakura before the other hokage got there. Also hiruzen got there before tobirama then hashirama. So i think tobirama's teleportation skill made him the fastest in his time and not his body flickering technique.😅

I am confident in saying that quote from Kurama is only about his sealing prowess. It's a similar quote to Madara complementing Gai's physical prowess.

I just figured that what he meant is while he can use perfect Sage mode he just can’t use it for prolonged amount of time and only in bursts. It’s wild to think he did all that training with the toads and semi mastered Sage mode but realized it wouldn’t help his overall fighting style so he just gave up on training it more to last longer

Easily the strongest Shinobi of his era. Which could already be somewhat gathered beforehand, but after his one shot it's not even a question. Even if you just want to say that Minato had talent akin to Hashirama's, that still implies he could have one day reached similar levels.

Only thing I can think when Minato says that he's not good at sage mood besides being modest is that he has unlimited chakra while in edo so sage mode might be easier to do

People forget that in order to seal someone’s soul/chakra through the reaper death seal you need to at least equal the amount of chakra of the being you’re trying to seal. That means hokage Minato in cannon had the same amount of chakra as half of kurama AND THATS AFTER defeating obito, teleporting a full powered kurama biju bomb AND spamming flying rajin all night . The dude was a fucking monster

As strong as Kishinoto needs him to be. Seriously, my one complaint is that Minato totally feels like a DMPC capable of anything.

I’ve always personally thought the main reason hiruzen didn’t want any conflict with Minato is that his kit and specific skillset just really hard counters hiruzen at this stage of his life. Hiruzen at this age struggles with making more clones, which divides his AP even further. That extra clone could be devastating. Also, minato if he tags him kinda just ends the fight with his lack of durability and speed disadvantage. Orochimaru clearly made them a lot more brain dead so they would even fight hiruzen, but the downside of this is it makes him way harder to use tobiramas advance raijin kit. It’s a weaker version then minatos and it’s just easier to spam aoe attacks that force hiruzen to waste chakra. Minato though since his base speed is higher and his kit is just an easier flying raijin into rasengan and that’s a real wincon vs hiruzen at this age is simpler to execute.

whats crazy about the Hiruzen part is that I believe in that chapter, both Hashirama and Tobirama were actually at their peak and was alluded that Hiruzen was stronger than both of them and then Minato was stronger than Hiruzen. Then I believe that was reconned to where the revived Hashirama and Tobirama were at half their peak during the anime. I would've been pretty cool if Hiruzen was that strong, but then again Hashirama cell is a great meme

Fun fact in the 9th databook, minato was stated to be hokage level by age 14 and highest battle iq in the history of shinobi world. Go look it up.

It's very hard to believe that with the firepower that Minato is shown to have in his manga as a teenager, for him to be unable to one shot teenage Obito as a Hokage.......something ain't adding up.

Swag, if you rememberz the statement about him being in the same calibre, I think he means potential, because minato, even as a hokage, he wasn't at his peak. He was still pretty young, if I remember correctly, he's barely even 30 years old when he died. So he could've grown even stronger because hashirama reached his peak looking at the timeline, seems like in his 30's to 40's like madara

I think there are a few things about Minato's feat that you are overlooking when it comes to how strong Minato is. The first is that the half of Kurama that Naruto was fighting was fully unsealed, as in Kurama was able to use his full capabilities. The Kurama that Minato fought was still sealed, the seal was just weakening. The second is that the Kushina that helped Naruto was only a portion of Kushina's chakra; a dying Kushina that was using a significant amount of chakra to chain down the full nine tails. Minato had a fully alive Kushina with a full chakra supply, and she may have had more than normal amount of chakra in her state because she had Kurama's chakra. Lastly, Minato didn't need to defeat Kurama. He only needed to push back against Kurama enough for Kushina's seal to tighten. Naruto had to defeat Kurama, as in completely subdue Kurama to take his chakra from him and return him to the seal which Naruto undid. I believe you have taken this feat greatly out of context to overstate the strength needed to complete it. The feat was impressive, but all conditions must be properly examined. Also, Kurama's statement may have meant skill. Skill and power are very different in Naruto. As many shinobi were more skilled than a young Naruto, yet he could beat them with his superior power.

As far as the "Clone flying raijin technique not being fast enough," maybe the delay is a matter of "sending the command and the chakra needed" over the air to the clone to perform the jutsu. Kind of like if you're connecting to a remote pc via parsec or something, if you try to open a program the opening of the program itself won't necessarily be slower just because it's a remote pc, but the act of "sending the order to open X program" is an additional (albeit small) delay between the time of wanting to open the program and opening the program. That small delay would be a bigger deal in the precision of timing for executing jutsu

I’d say he’s Kakazu level definitely doesn’t have that RAW DURABILITY

I personally always interpreted that ressurection scene as three things. Hirozen wasn't so much worried because it was the thrid but because he knew he wouldn't be able to handle all three given Mineto’s speed, two had to keep the secret about Naruto, three the author wanted to keep Mineto in his pocket for the time and build hype.
