As a programmer I suspect the behavior can be explained the following way: Note: I didn't test this, its just a guess When the attack hits the first unit it makes a list of all the other units that are in range in order of angle. Targets directly in the back are on top and targets in front are on the bottom. If 2 of them are on the same angle, the attack will favor the first unit spawned or something like that. The inconsistency in number of targets is the oddest one for me, and is probably the result of some janky programming, oddly shaped range detector, or some invisible process marking the houses as already hit by the lightning. For example if the function that makes the path for the lightning is copy pasted in multiple parts of the code and are inconsistent from one another, there could be an invisible path with different rules marking the targets as visited and generating the weird behavior. These are bugs that are very hard to detect and could have been generated in the balancing phase of the game.

The thing about The Son is that it comes with Mummies, an Egyptian myth unit with an insta-kill special. If the Egyptian player is booming well, Osiris would IMO be a solid Mythic Age pick.

Good video! Nice to have more AOM video as AOM is my favorite game in my childhood and one of my most memorable game. Can you do more video about the use of editor, especially the setting of ai. I really want to know how to create a new ai programme in AOM such as summoning units from any building etc.

2:50 That's because unit-line upgrades in AoM aren't like unit-line upgrades in AoE1/2 where they become a wholly different unit; in AoM unit-line upgrades are effectively just a stat boost with extra flavor. If you set the trigger to have Champion Hoplite Researched, you're just giving your Hoplites the bonuses from the Champion upgrade, which does *not* implicitly grant the Medium/Heavy upgrades. As an AoE2 analog, it'd be like creating a trigger that researched Blast Furnace at the start of the game, but not setting Forging/Iron Casting to researched.

You left out the most interesting aspect: the blessing mechanic... is he better at blessing than a pharao? And how much better is a pharao in blessing compared to a priest

On voobly players, have 2 rocs above son of osiris so they can protect him, also use son of osiris as soon as you reach mythic because son of osiris is too powerful vs non upgraded army. If your enemy already have upgraded army then osiris of son will be kind of useless

Son of osiris is the best egyptian miracle and super effective in defence of city also he can increase favour income with 2 pharaon upgrade significantly.

I was thinking the bolt chooses whatever enemy unit or building is adjacent wich for some reason ends up being "adjacent and next to" wich causes the L shape and it is also applied when the bolt prefers diagonal targets. I've recognised the same effect in other games (Dota 2, Rubick's Bolt; MU Online, Lightning Bolt). Note that the map grid is a bit tricky too as it is on AoE. The 5 house effect may be a bug, as houses are not really intended to be built in that order, this is my opinion.

SoO is squishy but powerful, a good glass cannon unit, my only issue is that he is only slightly better than Mythic age Greek heroes who can be respawned. If the Son of Osiris could be healed or respawned I think it would be a much better god power, because at the moment he is a Pharaoh with a stronger chaining attack.

fully upgraded son with the isis, anubis, nepthys, osiris path gives you the best pharaoh upgrades and with the yon you have 3 pharaohs 1 boosting food intake 1 boosting whichever other project son boosting/defending construction of fofward buildings and special project (cannot boost titant production, but can protect/heal workers)

The bounce decision is very clearly based on angle. You didn't perfectly line up the middle house and the 4th house was more in line with the current lightning trajectory, so it skipped the middle one.

What about building boosting? Is it same as from pharaoh?

2:50 Triggers are working properly, it's just that by it's own, the tech of champion infantry doesn't add up all the previous techs you're supposed to have like if you were researching them normally. (Visually it'll look like so, but you'll get "inferior" champions). Same goes to blacksmith updates. When comparing with greek heroes, Belarofonte (wathever he's called) would easily kill him if you micro him with his special attack Also perseus by his own it's a very bad hero (which is logical if you want to balance out his special medusa attack). His stats may be good but his attack animation is veeeeeery slow

bolt is my favourite troll power. i was playing against someone who chose the power that summons a dragon(forgot which god grants it). as soon as the dragon got to my base, i bolted it, and completely demoralized my opponent :)

To me the lightning strikes just look like seeded random based on the last hit target position. That's why the same units are always hit when they don't move. There is no pattern. (EDIT: I mean, I don't have a clue, but that's how I would have coded it :D)

Kinda disappointing, especially when you consider the other late game god powers you could be missing out on by using this. Also the fact that you're losing your pharaoh to empower things (although at this point you're probably going in to fight and don't need that anyway except as a backup)

Son of Osiris lose a lot of it's value due to his "random" chain lightning: in a fight, how much attention can you pay to where the lightning is going? Ok, you will hardly left SoO out in the open to be attacked, but it is still not a consistent area damage dealer to be worth it being a God Power. Still pretty fun, though.
