I'd love to see a "fan" edition of 40k. No worrying about manipulating the numbers to sell one army or another or shilling hordes of plastic, only concern being balance and fun. One page rules is pretty good but it's not 40k. I hate GW so much its unreal
They just pointlessly excluded all of our melee units from any of faction rules or meaningful buffs. Their is still no viable melee play styles in this codex. Despite haveing 3 melee specialist units and the like 6 other datasheets being melee shooting hybrids
This detachment is such a joke. "One unit gets the army rule" is something that the army rule should do, if you ever write that as a detachment rule you should throw it in the trash and fix the bigger problem. Kastlens don't even really gain much from the army rule. It might be a decent tank army, not really sure.
I'm really baffled why GW continuously writes such highly specifically limiting rules that have been proven suboptimal time and time again. Army rules that conditionally work only with one unit... Or having to roll dice to determine if your army rule functions during a turn... or rules that only function at the end of the game... Surely someone in Nottingham must play the game occasionally to realize these ideas all have shortcomings and shouldn't be used over and over again, yes?
When eldars just straight ignore whole rules of the game, while even in lore THEY CAN NOT DO THAT and it is always a BIG BIG RISK to see through the weeb. Even Ultran has problems with it.
They are not writing an ideal game, they are getting you to buy plastic. That is their whole goal. That is why they shuffle which army is best, it keeps their customers rotating through their stock.
20:55 the problem is this will likely never work for admech in 10th our vehicles have nerf guns mounted on them. Just look at the space marine laser destructor and compare it to any other anti tank gun in the admech roster. They do not come close. And this is AFTER the oath of moment nerf, it was even more one sided before. "Premium shooting army".
I feel like they just need one more robot unit to make this look really playable. Kastellans only really hit a couple of targets, either infantry at range or vehicles in melee. And then your other vehicles will be doing the same in various ways. I feel like they need a fast-ish robot to cover ground for your objective scoring needs. I could be wrong tho.
Doing a whole detachment based on a single unit datasheet is rather dumb. Instead of giving us more robot units to play with this is the slop we're fed.
I'm already preparing a full 12 bots for this detachment. Getting automatic protocols and not counting as Infantry with the Datasmith was all I wanted. I think the new Enginseer giving out Feel No Pain is also very useful to make them more durable.
@@jackcanox4015 While true, it will still make the first model you allocate wounds to every round tougher. Or else give it to a Dunecrawler or something if it doesn't make sense to do it on a Kastelan
@@jackcanox4015 Wellm that one model you selected may have Dam0 from single attack and then FnP. It will be really hard to push that first one. And robots already are tough models with T10 Sv2+.
@@nickbilske8140 I've got four actual Kastelans, and then I have some Castellax for Horus Heresy that I can proxy with. And I'm having a friend print out some cool looking robot models from Station Forge for the last unit of four.
@@jaynexus1639 Unlikely Eldar - I can't imagine anyone at GW actually builds and paints any faction that still has finecast. If the early 10th wraithknight is anything to go off, I doubt they even play tested the index.
Your definition of “buff” is bad and wrong. Making a couple of annoying skew lists way overpowered compared to the other lists is not “good” it’s not a “buff”. It’s awful and unfun. Pushing admech past that 45% win rate because one specific list is over performing is not good game design, and is the definition of poorly balanced.
@@th3summonerGenerally Admech from 9th to 10th we lost a lot of fluff and firepower. Losing a base BS for your army and having most of your decent guns have reduced/halved shots lots AP and less to make up for it just feels bad. Compare the Forge world rules from 9th to these detachments. I am sure you can at least sympathize. I gave 10th a solid shot until now. Ill test these rules and see how list building feels. But for fun I will stick to playing 9th edition games with friends. A shame since 10th DOES have redeeming features. BTW - Our record was 138 shrugged/Saved/FnP wounds on a single lychguard unit without it dying.
i like the skatros but gw you make a detachment for robots and dont give us more robots, like necrons got four models yes one is not a new mini but you could not spare a little time to make a new robot?
Thats my thought as well. They did get shafted really hard for how they handled 9th with the continuous power creep. Here they Tried to reset Quite a lot with a lot of fuck ups, but the goal doesnt Seem to be to buff everything again but to create a middle ground and move every army towards that
@@pauljohannesmierscheidt2671that would be fine if they balanced with rules changes instead of points. It's unreal at this point. Not just admech, but most other armies have more models on the board than seems right.
This detechment, as a name to buff our robo boys, is actually buff every vehicles EXCEPT Kastelan robot😅weird, weird, weird🙈 And what's funny is, there're some buff in other detechment are actually for them🤣
@@FBI_Metal_Slime Well...I can't agree with you in this point🙈I mean, those enhancements are actually build for Enginseers, not really a Datasmith-thing🙈 Unless you REALLY want your robots become a demise 1 machine, other than that, the detechment don't really buff them🙈
@@The_Penguin_8964 Not entirely true. Speed stratagem, reroll full hits stratagem, doctrines(yeah, they should have have it base, but..), necromechanic enhancement, BS stratagem will work on Robots, making them better. Yes, other vehicles also got buffed by them.
You could give the Arch-Negator enhancement to a Sydonian Skatros model with the anti-infantry weapon and he becomes multi-purpose. I love the idea of Ad Mech, but I dislike about 75% of the models and their range feels too limited to get into.
Since they still can't figure out how to make the Kastelan robots good, I feel like AdMech needs to get some really big robots; something knight sized.
I don’t think that’s needed they are supposed to use knights for knight sized things literally that’s why last edition they had Knights of the cog as a rule
Basic movement is still 6, so even if a unit will move 9 with the stratagem, the rest is damn slow. Unless they cost 60/70 points I see no future (at competitive levels I mean!) for these robot boyz. Also: the idea of stratagems inputted in the command phase is nice but it will make us very predictable or massively limit us to use them in a reactive way when we need it the most. Some little improvement then but I fear that my 6 Kastelan will remain unused for other 2/3 years
The only current use for kastelan robots were a rapid ingress smash force. I feel that these changes may give them enough ground to hold a point and actually put some units down in shooting. The issue is almost all the stratagems are better on other admech vehicles. There may be some fun shenanigans here and the 12 bot list might be the best list for this detachment, but i could easily see the other vehicles being the bigger mvp of this detachment
I recently started out Warhammer with admech and I just love everything about them. I appreciate these videos even though I'm getting it's not a popular faction. Thanks a million!
pointless detachment, the tradeoff for what you get in the cohort cybernetica (detach, strats, enhancements) is actually worse than playing a robots list in any other detachment. Like, seriously, I don't think anyone on the development team take a second to assess this set of rules critically.
i really like ad mech lore wise and look, but i really dislike the detachments, i use rad cohort and i do well with it, all the other detachments except for rad and hunter cohort seem either flat out bad or just really really strange all this and also the stratagems are just gawd awful, I dont understand who is thinking some of this up. there are some cool things and i think if they made 1-2 of the detachments skitarii based and the rest more unique and less about battleline it would be cool, also why dont kataphrons have a detachment focused around servitors or something? I wish the way ad mech has been treated didnt bother me so much but it really does.
The repulsive grid rule is cool and makes sense against small arms at 12”, but seems a bit cheesy when it’s bouncing back artillery 100” away from behind cover 🤷♂️
@@ValentineElCarbona Kataphrons got the army rule months ago as part of one of the balance datasheets. Kastelans (and Datasmiths) are literally the only buffed unit.
