I think two of the factors that created Sufism was that most societies had men's and women's orders and that gatherings at people homes after or between prayer services eventually resulted in orders and formal traditions. Another three factors that led to Sufism was objections to the flaws of political leaders, the companions of the prophet, and the limits of the understanding of scholars of later generations.
