We went to an alternative High School and i remember riding the Marta w/ him and Yung Won talking about making music w/ X and Jay-Z and ppl was laughing when claimed producer credit. He left for a few weeks came back talked to the teachers and wasn't seen again....that is until Eve 1st video single dropped showcasing Swizzy loud and clear. Proud for all your accomplishments.

Ruff Ryders anthem was huge in the South. Swizz, knowingly or not, produced a record that resonated down here. And it was probably due to his GA links. I remember thinking it felt like a Southern type of record but soooooo New York. DMX was that dud from 98 to 00.

I worked on this video. I was a new intern at Big Dog Films, Hype Williams company, and was trying to get my feet wet as a P.A. I didn't have any idea what to expect, no experience besides driving a cube truck on a music video directed by Director X. It was also the NBA All-Star Weekend in NYC and there were parties, private parties, all sorts of events in midtown Manhattan. After a night of performances and rubbing elbows with NBA stars in the hotel they were staying in, I came the next morning dressed for more partying but, before I knew it, was manning the V.I.P. entrance, helping with setting up, and eventually crowd control for when DMX finally performed. While in the back, waiting to start with the rest of the crew, DMX was distraught. I asked him what was wrong, and he responded, "They killed my dog!" Apparently, it was a hit and run. It might've happened that morning, or the day before, but DMX was truly still hurt. I appreciated him sharing that with me and it didn't stop him. By the time we thought we had the crowd at bay, most of whom came for just a Sunday night of clubbing, we start hearing him growl over the mic. He was being a professional, performing no matter how he felt. The crowd blitzed our wimpy barricade as if there wasn't one and stormed the stage where he came out rapping, "Where my dogs at," had me twirling in place like a revolving door for the hysterically charging crowd. I found my way to the stage where we created another barricade between the crowd and stage, and I watched Hype Williams on the stage with a camera shooting DMX for the music video. It was memorable. I'm glad I was a part of it.

A big thing you don't really hear in a lot of hip hop documentaries and even less concerning things from the city itself is that Atlanta was really an integral crockpot and weight station for an enormous chunk of hip hop. You'd never know that from listening to the radio there now, but it really was the epicenter for a lot of hip hop artist from all over the country, and it seems like very few people highlight that. Either way I'm loving this documentary.

I remember reciting DMX's Prayer #1 for a poetry assignment in 2000 English class. While everyone else was choosing the likes of Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, and others, I chose X; and moved the whole room! X was that dude and I don't think he gets enough appreciation from the Hip Hop community for his impact.

Now I see why the second Dmx album didn't sound nearly as good as good the first. That sound on the first album was ground breaking, much respect to Dame Grease X should've stayed with him
