In these unprecedented times, many more teams are having to adapt to working remotely, together. The Huddle is something our team uses to connect more deeply with one another. This is a short demonstration of how we Huddle on a weekly basis.
Here’s how we Huddle:
- Pick a facilitator or two
- Show up on time, turn notifications off and get ready to focus
- Conduct a quick grounding exercise
- Share High Fives - see more in the tips below
- Ask a Question of the Week for everyone to answer
- Check In - everyone gets the opportunity to share what’s on their heart and mind so they can be fully present and we can support one another throughout the week
- A volunteer closes with a story of WHY we do what we do
Want to learn more - discover how we huddle here: simonsinek.com/commit/huddle-...

Thank y'all for "pulling back the curtain." This is a good example of the vulnerability leading to trust that Brene Brown talks about. My wife is a school educator and she and her team are now working remote. We're also now working remote to build community in our apartments through our family job with Apartment Life. It's been a tough change with a new baby at home. So thank you again for the "remote" encouragement. My wife and I have been big fans for several years now.

Great teams talk more together than mediocre teams. And they talk better together. Conversations that inspire, engage and energize? You can tell from the faces that they enjoy being in the team. One of the great challenges of teams: what energy does the individual player bring on screen. What ideas? What constructive contribution? And the role of the moderator is crucial. Keep up the energy and spirits of the team. Very interesting to watch your example.

Proud to be a member of such a great team, at AMF in Richmond...We do a small Engineering Huddle every AM as a quick check-in....as we're transitioning to remote work, I see this as a helpful tool to assure our focus and energy is directed in the most effective direction...especially considering the distractions taking place around us! Thanks, Simon!!

I rarely comment on here but this video is so raw and real I’m so impressed by the team’s openness and showing vulnerability to each other. I feel like there’s a genuine connection between you guys and I even did the breathing exercise in the beginning. It goes to show that creating a safe space is the foundation to building a strong team. Thank you Team Sinek for sharing your huddle with us.

Hi dears! Thank you for sharing this with us. I personally love the principles on which Simon works and lives by and how he and his team share them. Today I am having a team meeting and I intend to propose this approach of building the trust within a team to my manager and my colleagues as we are quite new in this completely remote work. Cheers to all of you and keep up the good work! Sending love to all of you.

I love this! Deep down in my heart I've been looking for a power team, I have 13 persons in a group, but the mindset have been of a follower's mindset, like I am a leader and I want to be a great one at that but I also don't want to be the one to tell people what to do, even though I tell them my vision, it's like I'm suppose to do all the work and then tell them what to do and thats the time they would do. I am sooooo depressed because of that. But this is an awesome idea and I am definitely going to try this! Thank you Simon!

I also conduct weekly calibration with my team (remotely) but I realized that it's always serious so last year since the pandemic I started to start our huddle with a game. It's so fun and the team is always looking forward to what the game would be for the week. I thought it will not work but they love it, we laugh a lot.

DEAR FRIENDS.....Your huddle, is really cool! Thank you for sharing. What a wonderful way to connect with each other. I get the feeling that you are more than just a group of people working for a company, you are friends from the heart, who really care about each other. You are the essence of a true family! More companies should embrace this type of practice. So many larger companies will say, "Well that's really nice but, it's not practical or it's too hard to get everyone together." BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! Yet, all of you are successful at it. I feel that comments like "it's too hard" or whatever, are just an excuse for not trying hard enough to put in the effort. Many times people get lost in these larger companies and feel disconnected. They feel like a number and that they and their opinions don't really matter. That they're just there taking up space. These kinds of feelings cause LOTS OF DISCOURAGEMENT and FRUSTRATION and ultimately brings company moral down. I think the ultimate goal in making a company stronger, is by first making the people, who work in it, stronger. YOU DO THAT, BY VALIDATING THEM. If you focus on your interactions with your people and show them that you really care about them, not just as an employee, but as a real person, those same people will give their loyalty and their fighting spirit to the company. No one wants to let down the team, because when you let down the team, you ultimately let down the company. I believe, if the team really wants to make a change, THEY WILL DO EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER, TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. It doesn't matter how big or small of a company you are. All the more reason to embrace it and do it. Could you imagine how AWESOME that would be, if every company in America got on board with this idea?? Just think? ALL OF OUR COMPANIES NATIONWIDE, working together to make our nation strong again, like we were years ago. WE COULD TAKE ON THE WORLD. Tammy Lynn Schulz. 😊👍❤🇺🇸

Lots of great takeaways. Had to furlough 3 of my team members and was forced to hire some freelancers from the Philippines to save on labor costs. I’m running my first weekly all hands meeting where my w2 staff is out numbered by our freelancers (team of 15, 5 w2, 10 freelancers) tomorrow to preserve our close knit culture, improve morale and foster communication and trust with our new team members. This video is showing me that it’s possible to make remote teams work whether or not we’re in the same building, city or continent. Thanks guys.

Totally agree with this need to have human moments together in distributed teams. I’m wondering what additional sensitivity is needed for multicultural teams in such cases. People from different cultural groups have different preferences for ‘public’ positive recognition or emotional transparency. Inclusiveness also means adapting to each other’s personal style. This format may work in the US but while the need for appreciation is universal how it is implemented (appropriately) changes across cultural contexts.

I’m inspired, as ever with Simon’s work. But I imagine this is wooden because this team knew it would be published. The primary issue I see with this is that it is not interactive. A series of broadcasters is NOT social interaction. And that is the challenge for us. 1). Have sessions like this. 2). Get the banter going, the back and forth. Sometimes that is easier in a chat room than a VC.
@ryasmi
@ryasmi 3 года назад
Do you think there could be benefits to the lack of back and forth? It seemed that it was perhaps more important to listen than to say anything in return, hence why people were simply putting the thumbs up in reply rather than saying anything in response. It seems likely that the things that were said in this huddle were discussed after the call in smaller groups.

Looks like a cult. I'd like to develop trust in my teammates without having to listen to their eating and health advice and giving forced virtual high fives. Respect for your coworkers and the work they do and trust in their ability and willingness to do it is paramount, sharing some jokes and good nature is also positive. Actively encouraging the sharing of emotions and family matters is unprofessional and in my opinion, manipulative. You are paying employees for their skills, their experience and their time, not their emotions. By making your team "a family" and encouraging home-life emotional expression you are making them dependent on you as a source of comfort. You are an employer, not a psychotherapist.
