As a beekeeper I can tell you the two biggest problem is the small hive beatle and the varoa destructor mite. Ive had good luck trapping hive Beatles with swifter sheets. The Beatles have barbs on their legs that get tangled in the fibers of the swifter sheet trapping them but bees don't have barbs and don't get tangled. Ive tryed traps like the one he uses but found them messy often spilling the liquid on the frames and comb, most people use some kind of cooking oil to drown the Beatles. In oil the Beatles sink to the bottom but in a water based liquid the Beatles float and new Beatles avoid drowning by walking on the bodies of the dead ones and climb out.
