Brits have their reservations about Americans mainly about their politics. This of course makes one wonder why these politicians got there in the first place. There is a feeling of "We are the centre of the world" It seems there are less floating voters amongst the population and when someone like Sarah Palin almost gets to become the vice president, the rest of Europe shakes their heads in disbelief. Your love for guns, clinging to the 2nd Amendment and the influence of the NRA doesn't help either. Most friends (almost all of them) in NJ and Santa Cruz agree with me. Some States I prefer more than others...as I do in Europe.
+Kristen225 well yes most Americans from the south are relaxed, like in Alabama (where I live) they are relaxed because they do not understand the necessary intelligence to communicate in this generation so they have made their own way of living and segregated their beliefs into a more simple way of doing things. Which makes me feel foreign, even though I was born and raised here (it feels like your surrounded by incompetent human beings).
Jacob leonard WHAT???!!!! Where did you get that load of crap? What a moronic statement to make based on your tiny, ignorant world. Try traveling to other rural areas around the country and you'll see the same thing. It has NOTHING to do with no intelligence or not being able to communicate with this generation. I know many, MANY small town people who have not one bit of segregation in their beliefs and many city people who only want to be with those of their "own kind". Don't talk about others being uneducated and insult a whole culture just because you believe where you live is that way.
Not even close to what I was saying. Worth noting is that Lee built on the already established US military's ARPANET, which could be considered the "first" large scale computer network. And the Brits are great, but let's face it, most things we use in today's modern society were invented in by Americans.
*Ah America, where they invented computers, the world wide web, radio, television, telephone, trains, jets...oh shit sorry that was Britain.* You think Britain invented all of that? Alexander Graham Bell may have been Scottish-born, but he invented the telephone in the US (Boston, if I'm not mistaken). The US government also invented what became known as the Internet. Not to mention planes, which jets derived from.
lol im a brit and you really cannot deny some of the stereotype is really quite true lmao, some of u guys need to chill a tad, no one really cares, we were just as harsh in his video interviewing brits on americans
I love living in the US because every state is like its own country. Lived in Texas and am now living in Washington state and the change in scenery and people is amazing. You could live here your whole life and not see everything the US has to offer.
yes I know what you mean lived in Georgia, California, Texas, and Colorado all great states I must say everyone (well a lot of people were friendly) and great to meet.
StarScout27: Apart from change of scenery, the various states use the same currency, speak the same language, fly the same national flag and I'm sure have many other things in common. If you want to see vast differences in culture, history, change of scenery and in many other respects, in truly different countries within close proximity to one-another, then you won't go far wrong in travelling through Europe.
+anghinetti Every state has their own state flag that is also flown, and their is a big diversity of culture in California that includes so many different languages. However, you are right their are so many states that are not diverse and pretty similar. I found others to be so boring and I agree European areas are more diverse with a longer unique history.
People here in the U.S. have stereotypes about people in the U.K. Same goes for people in the U.K. having stereotypes about Americans. I don't understand why people are getting so bothered over it.
***** We just like to poke around at each other, the British, Americans, Canadians, and Australians all like to poke fun and make jokes about our weight, teeth, kangaroos, weather, and accents. Its all in good fun but all 4 of us have idiots that take stereotypes as facts.
Love when they talk about British people being proper or having nice accents like they need to go to birmingham or newcastle or South East London and see if they still think that
zod zodd apart from SE london they're completely different to what americans probably expect a British accent to sound like. If you look up video clips from Geordie Shore that's a newcastle accent
Ryann Palermo It's not an exaggeration, American citizens place mediocrely in the mediocre sections of testing and grades. For our civilized country, that's absolutely pathetic. "Stupid Americans have a tendency to also be proud, arrogant, and obnoxiously patriotic (though why this is remains a mystery)" This is purely speculative, but I can guess as to why. Perhaps they don't understand the many things with our politics along with being taught that we're the greatest by far has indoctrinated them to be so hardcore. And when they're surrounded by more idiots, this belief only amplifies exponentially. But I digress. Back to the main topic, most of our kids are stupid. Keep in mind I'm a "kid" as well. Though I hate using fallacious points, this needs to be said. I have encountered first hand many potentially bright children who are taught to remember instead of being taught to figure it out by themselves. This is partially anecdotal, but mainly from excessive study on said topic. It may be a stereotype, but it's the truth. There is not a single valid argument one can bring up to refute a thing I have said. And I still believe that we should make the school curriculum more rigorous. I'm sure we would fall even farther behind. This problem needs to be addressed in the future, but with our future generation, all I see are problems.
In Rugby, most tackles aren't likely to so much as even injure a player. In American Football, most hits have a high chance of KILLING a player. American Football players are a lot more powerful than Rugby players and the American Football players build up more momentum when tackling. So if they played without pads there would be more deaths and lawsuits. And the term "Soccer" originated in England.
***** But who the fuck cares? Why do people get so offended? I say let him say whatever he wants. Hes saying it in a youtube comment and you're crying 😂 Besides, didn't the term "ain't" originally come from the Cockney english? Therefore, the BRITISH? :O Ps: I live in texas (idk if that counts as southern? well we're the southwest for sure) And i don't really hear people say "aint" unless they're like thug/gangster wannabes from my school lol
He was listing off stereotypes and then giving his personal opinions. Like, I know a huge stereotype is all Australians say G'day and I'd list that as one but my personal opinion is of course they freaking don't.
I'm a Brit who's travelled to America and I have to agree with some of these stereotypes, especially about being stuck up with strangers. Our public transport is a good example. In America I had so many conversations with strangers it irked me at the start but I got used to it, that's very rare over here.
rbeck3200tb40 I really don't know, British people just mostly want to get on with their business undisturbed, and love it that way. It's weird and sad. People here can be neighbours for years and only say hello to each other.
jazzyjeth I don't know but I heard so many Europeans complaining about how American are fake because they're way too friendly and bubbly when they meet new person. Turns out after they know them for a while, they're just not a person they thought, like they use mask 24/7 just to impress other people. Also, they think American relationship (friend/partnership) are really superficial and they always avoid 'sensitive' issues like race, religion, and politics. They talk more about superficial things, like celebrity gossip or just 'what are you doing tonight?' even to a total stranger. This signify the fakeness (that's what they said), because it seems that American actually don't really care about what other people going to do, but still they ask what they're going to do. I mean, they just do it, not because of curiosity but because of pure politeness and it's dull and shallow for European. Also, those European guys complain about how American only text/call each other once in a while, like they don't have any intimacy at all. I don't know though if these things are true or not. Maybe some Americans or Europeans here could give me some insights :).
jazzyjeth What do you think though? I mean, do you agree with the point I've said above? Because I'm not American nor European and never been to any of those countries. I just say this based on what so many European think about American from various sites. Is that true?
@james woop congratulations you're the next Einstein I hope you make it far in the world you absolute genius you are just so intelligent and grammatically correct that it blows my mind.
funny how the Americans all were skinny when in the UK one they claim Americans are fat. As a native to San Diego I prefer living in SD but most other states kind of suck due to vibe.
+Nicole snow As a fact, Many Americans are obese. So the British are factually correct. Just because the Americans in this video aren't overweight it doesn't mean the British are wrong.I can tell you this as a fact though, "British people have bad teeth" This is an opinion I'm afraid.
+Nicole snow i liked how the fat chick in the british version was mentioning fat americans. all the bitch needs to do is look in the mirror to find a fat british person.
Lol I'm British and I found this funny. Stuff like this interests me, like how they see us and stuff. And I can confirm some of those are true and some aren't xD Well for me anyway don't know about anyone else. Also it wasn't as bad as I thought I would be, Got some really nice ones! So thank you :D (Also American accents are awesome.)
Wtf is a San Fransisco accent? I'm from the area and I hear no difference from the rest of California. Only difference is more gays, Asians and homeless here.
As a Brit, I really am confounded by the bad teeth idea. Genuinely, I know no one with bad teeth and on the odd occasion they do, they just go to the orthodontist (for free) and get braces. #NHS
+TimeWarp66 well no, because if they're bad they get fixed, unless they're awful (then you're on your own ahahahaha) and the tax is substantial but it does mean than were not put into debt like under some medical circumstances in places like the US can. But point taken. :)
I think they have it stuck in their minds that it was a stereotype of the older Brits. I do see older Brits with jacked up teeth but that was most likely before the public healthcare came into being and they didn't get braces like so many Americans do
TimeWarp66 I don't think wealth matters, it comes down to what people think are important and having straight teeth wasn't a big deal to Brits until the last few decades
TimeWarp66 Nominal GDP does not take into account differences in the cost of living and the income inequality is more severe in the U.S. than it is in nearly all of West Africa, North Africa, Europe, and Asia. And it's getting worse. So it's better not to use the word "WE"
P.S we don't hate Americans. these are just responses from people who don't know what the word stereotype means, so they just attacking you by using stupid responses as a defence mechanism. I loved living in the states and the people were very warm loving and great fun. as like all countries.... we have the exceptions lol
+JUST GTA V www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/12054216/Americans-do-not-have-better-teeth-than-the-British-study-concludes.html Go to the Appalachians and see what Mountain Dew can do to enamel.
I think it's because it's so big and has a place everyone can love, Englands tiny, it's so small that the weather is pretty much the same all over and there's some nice places by beaches, countrysides and as for cities, Londons a big city if you like that. But everything like that, that we have can be beaten in America because it's so much bigger they just have so much more going on and because it's big if you could choose anywhere there to live you can pick what has the nicest weather, then the type of place you want to live and keep going till it's pretty much perfect.
These videos are supposed to be fun and carefree and everybody takes everything they hear some person in another country to heart. We all act as if all other countries are the same. The United States is a HUGE country. Being from New York I can say that the people far west in the United States are WAY different from us in the east. Same with the south. Southern people have way different culture than us in the north. Not bad just different.
As a Brit I thought this was hilarious. Watched quite a few of these and some people need to chill out on these threads and look up the meaning of stereotype.
I'm British, hate tea, I do brush my teeth twice a day, heck my fathers even a dentist, we eat many different foods, and not all of us sound posh, in some cities there are different accents to other cities in the UK
+Seth Bergman we like different songs (pop etc), we are average people like you, but we are all different. lots of the stuff we watch (TV, movies) come from america, so we watch the same kinda stuff :)
I mean this really shows something. Uk is nice to visit and I love so many things from uk but if someone asks where do you want to live My answer is definitely the US. You can already compare both UK stereotype and US stereotype videos, people are more positive and chill in the US 😅
sorry, but if the UK was so great, there wouldn't be such a huge number of brits leaving for USA, Australia or NZ. Homes are small and the weather sucks big time. I am not american, but I recognize that the U.S lifestyle is much much better, even though americans are too stubborn to drop their gun habits. Nothing against the UK, I just think you can live better elsewhere. On the positive side, as I said, the british and the rest of the Europeans are lightyears ahead in education than americans. So you are right, there are many americans who would think that England is the only country in the UK.
OLA Pharm The NSA thing doesn't really effect people and the police brutality is mostly just people blowing accidents wayyyyyy out of proportion so no he had it pretty right..
Chris Hardy accidents is when you choke someone to death and they scream I can't breathe or when someone dies in police custody. Enjoy your privilege my friend.
Chris Hardy yh that is the issue. You see no issue with the choking but the blame is shifted to his health condition. WE MAKE EXCUSES FOR POLICE BRUTALITY.
I'm a Brit and am kinda loving this video. It really is just putting us into so many boxes that don't hold enough of us to be real. Apparently, they like our accents, but there's so many others than just the typical posh stereotype, including my very common, toned down Essex accent, which I'm almost certain they wouldn't like. Btw, my teeth are white and straight, along with most other people of my generation in Britain.
To be honest, I don't know why people from the UK commenting are feeling so offended, these are STEREOTYPES! There's another one of his videos where the British people were stereotyping the Americans too saying how we're stupid and fat so get over it.. it's not that serious man 😒
What a lot of people don't realise is that most people wouldn't think these things realistically, and are just stating stereo types. Nobody said any of these are true.
I love when that guy was talking about how are telephone boxes are cool and then the image of the ones in my town that reek of piss and aren even red floats into my head..
I loved reading the comments on both videos cause people in the US are all like: Haha that's so me or these are so fun. But then there's the people in the UK like: wHAT THE HELL DID THEY SAY OH HELL NAH BLOODY HELL NO THATS BAD. BAD AMERICANS BAD.
As a brit i actually find that true...but yeah i actually like america and want to live there one day since i reallly want to live in places like brookyln or alabama but that could be just me because i never heard any sterotypes around where im from(minus the people who were in my class thought our teacher was rascist because whenever someone white will do something bad they get warned but when black people do something bad like talking in class they get sent out but thats just my friends but srsly they thought that)
oh wow..well nice to hear that since im mixed...so i might to the best city with the least ignorant people(aka racists)bt i might go up there for..idk laughs
Ngl when we my college went on a trip for 3 days we ran out of milk for the tea and my friends were so annoyed they went through the kitchen window to get some milk for their tea 😂😂
The bad teeth stereotype is one of the most untrue stereotypes ever lool. You'll only find a few like that which is commonly seen among the lower class folks. Same with America o___o Great video though xD
TheAmandaAmazing A lot of things said on the internet from every country is ignorant. RU-vid is an American website and the USA has over 300 million people so you are just likely to see more comments from them. However, if you glance objectively, people all over the world say so many dumb things online. You mentioned the USA having an educational ranking of 34 (I think it is actually 29) then you mention how it is compared to schools in mud/straw. The USA is just above Portugal actually. Lastly, the USA is the least homogeneous post industrial country, thus having more variations/variables in their educational output. Notice for example that 7 American colleges are in the top 10 best colleges in the world according to various publications. Your comment in itself is ignorant, thus proving the point that people all over the world say stupid things online.
+English_Rose First of all, I'm not sure where you get your numbers, but they aren't correct. You seriously think that 25% of Americans can't pick out the United States on a map and don't know which testament came first? That is complete garbage. As a matter of fact, I tried to find those statistics, and, not surprisingly, they don't exist. I did find a study done by the National Geographic, in which they gave over 500 Americans a blank map and asked them to find the United States. In that study, 94 % had no problem finding the U.S. The United States is not ranked 34th in education. According to Pearson, who puts out rankings, it is currently ranked 14th. You have to understand those numbers rather than just take them at face value to use as fuel to insult Americans. Rankings are based on more than just testing, but the way that countries test is not the same everywhere. I won't go into all of the differences. You can look them up for yourself. However, the Northeastern states consistently score very highly, even against their international peers, while states with poorer and non-English speaking students consistently have low scores. The bottom line is that your rant is nothing more than biased vitriol. By the way, universities are ranked by far more than how many people graduate. Seriously, Ivy League schools admit less students than a public university, so why would they rank so highly if the basis was graduation numbers? With the internet, it's first use was by the U.S. Department of Defense, who funded the creation of ARPAnet during the Cold War, which used packet switching. It has evolved over the years, with contributors within and outside of the U.S. All your hate-filled rant tells me is that you are perfectly fine regurgitating the stereotypical nonsense that you've gathered from other pretentious American-haters.
Ummmm....no it’s not. American going on living three years in the U.K. And the bad teeth here is very distracting. Anyone who has come to visit me is the same. British Bad teeth is definitely a spot on stereotype.
There are many things I love about America, but just like any country I dont like how unhealthy we are, I dont like how theres lots of discrimination, its so expensive. But I love how everyone says what they feel, Im relatively reserved but I love honesty and Americans are usually very honest.
The Xzibitor But how come the US has the most people in prison for every 100,000 resident which is about 900. It's almost twice as the 2nd place, Russia who only have about 500. Isn't that crazy for a country as advanced and civilized as US to have that extremely high number? Just ban the gun please! I heard a mother killed by her 2 years old kid because her kid accidentally pull the trigger (a 2 years old kid can't think quite logically yet), not to mention all of those school shooting and stuff. Seriously, I'm so confused why don't you ban that gun already just because of that proverb by your founding father "a nation who can't trust its citizen without a gun is not democracy enough" or something like that. Just ban that, there are thousands of proofs that it creates more problem than it solves one.
The British got off easy in this video. Bad teeth, tea and fish & chips? Is that it? My god, dont let these people see our version AHAHAHA! We sound like everything about American is annoying and bad apart from food and the landscape.
+Nemesis_Reloaded-Icbal I saw it. Fat chicks calling Americans fat. I think Americans are happier with themselves in general and don't feel the need to downgrade others.
Yeah, American's big themselves up to try to live up to the hype, or to cover up a flaw. While Brits self deprecate so as not to boast, or to not disappoint. The outcome is that Americans appear positive in nature while Brits come across as negative. It's a double edged sword though. That positivity of Americans can come across as false and the negativity of Brits is what feeds out humour. But as Ricky Gervais said "I'd rather someone said "have a nice day" and not mean it than someone ignore me and mean it".
Agree. The most irritating comment by the Brits about Americans is the judgment of "fat" people. I was like, "K." And most of the people who mentioned it weren't exactly thin.
weather and complaining is my specialty. Where I'm from we get a few days of snow a year however as I'm not living near mountains anymore I saw about a day in December 2014 and a tiny bit on the car a few weeks back. in terms of summer, it's not much better. We don't warm up. we get warmer from about 5 degrees in January to about 15 in July. so no shorts, sun cream or pools for us. It's always cloudy and a 50/50 chance of rain outside
I dont get the "Free" thing? Why are Americans always banging on about it. You're just as free in the UK as you are in the US. If you're talking about communist China or North Korea, fine...
ExistentialLance That's funny since the UK ranks higher than the US on the World Press Freedom Index. Did you honestly pick the most stereotypically American response...guns? Seriously? Shooting is a country sport in the UK, you shoot clay pigeons, discs or targets, like Archery or Fencing, it's a sign of culture and class - owning your own firearm for no reason shows no class whatsoever. 90% of this country is anti-guns, it's one of the things we hate about America actually...if you think you need to own a gun to feel free, I feel sorry for you guys. I don't see what is "confining" about British society, I'd say all the racial tensions in America are much more confining, none of that here!
The bad teeth stereotype is the most common one I heard for a very long time and I honestly don't believe that. That stereotype has also been engraved in old cartoons and few new cartoons this day and age. Twitter and instagram have proven that wrong, also the internet. Hot british girls and accents, and humor I do like :)
i get the feeling that one of the main stereotypes of england is that i feel unless you're educated and have been there then you could possibly see it as everyone has the london accent, which is either cockney or quite received pronunciation so how they talk on the bbc and the upper class, same applies to america really where people will picture america sounding as California because it's were all the tv and film from america comes that as a different country is usually peoples first point of observing the culture of another country, yet both the US and UK is littered with very different regional accents and social dialect which are interesting, personally i feel travel broadens the mind so i really advise people doing so if they ever get the opportunity
Right. What I was trying to say was that the person criticised something he then said he didn't understand, which is stupid. It's like saying "Quantum physics is stupid, I don't understand it."
I'm British and I really wanna move to america because almost everyone there loves the British and it's got much better weather 🌞 I don't like their accent that much though 😂 I love the Australian accent
Jade Palmer When that one guy said that about the Brits "liking our accents" I was like, WTF? We know that the Brits hate the way we talk. I think he was dreaming.
whutzat Interestingly enough, Australians love American accents, especially Southern accents. British people, not so much ... Although, I don't see why they are so afraid of New York accents, considering they're very similar to British accents ...
Man this is some mad video. Some mad ting, bruv. So bait how these Americans don’t think we’re hardmen, bruv. Always thinking we leg it down to the local chippy. Although, I do fancy a little bit of Premier League on the telly and a cuppa. These stereotypes are bare dry, bruv. Why don’t you come down into South Oxhey and show you what Britain is really like? - Random Roadman, 15, South Oxhey, Bushey, United Kingdom
We went to play soccer to against different college inside Pennsylvania from our college. After game we went to subway to eat and we were like ”what place is this?” where are we?” ”what this place called.” felt like we are in a different country or world. USA is Big.
I'm laughing at all the offended Brits in the comment section when they are getting a taste of their own medicine. Don't worry a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down plus some biscuits. #ProudAmerican
I am from San Diego California and I have a couple of English friends. I would never trade them for anything in the world they’re awesome people. They’re very nice they love their country to and they’re warm and sweet and I would just love to go to England. I think English people are just some of the nicest people I’ve ever met in my life.😍😍😍😍😍
I like american accents I don't know many different types but some of them sound very friendly and conforting if that makes sense. Oh I have a question for americans and canadians, I heard from somewhere that what us brits call rugby, americans and canadians call football and you call it football because the ball that you play with is a foot long, is that true? sorry if it's a stupid question.
I have wondered for a long time if one of the larger reasons Americans don't drink much tea is because of the Boston Tea party incident. Our anger over being taxed for tea & the Boston Massacre. Because of the anger behind it, we chose to, for the most part, leave tea to the Brits.
Tammy McMillan Tea was a relatively "new" popular drink at that point in British History (when comparing it to the totality of British history that is). Tea had only been introduced by Charles II's Portuguese wife Catherine of Braganza. Portugal did a lot of trading with China and was well known at that time as the "tea drinking" nation circa the end of the 17th Century whereas Britain did not at that time. Catherine popularized tea drinking in the nobility (but it didn't really extend far beyond the highest classes in her day), and the Georgian aristocrats who came after the end of the Stuarts made drinking tea a science with fancy tea sets that made tea drinking a much more social occassion to show off how well-bred or how well-mannered you were (three things Georgian Englishmen loved to do) as the practice began trickling down into more Bourgeoisie homes. Still though, most Georgian English would have associated tea drinking with the nobility--which the Americans didn't really want to associate themselves with over here. So in all honesty it was less than a 100 years old as a popular drink in Britain at the time America split off, primarily associated with the aristocrats whom the Americans sought to cut themselves off from. Besides coffee was much more readily available with trade from Latin America and the West Indies. Also up until Catherine of Braganza introduced tea drinking to the British, they were primarily known for drinking lots and lots of beer,--which they still do--in fact when Catherine asked for a cup of tea upon arrival in Britain, she instead was offered a mug of beer to her displeasure.
The one I'm surprised none of them pointed out the plethora of outstanding British (also Scottish and Irish) actors playing American roles so well that people never know they're British, where most American actors just completely obliterate the British accent. Actors you may not know were British; Hugh Laurie, House. Most of the Walking Dead cast. Most of the Game of Thrones cast. Damian Lewis. Many more.
If you couldn't tell, I'm an American. Also, to discount the quality and great number of British actors implies that you either have no interest in film or just don't know much about it. I apologize if it stings your patriotism, but there aren't many American actors whom can pull off an convincing British accent. You may not concern yourself with portraying a character accurately, although I believe the majority of actors from all countries do in fact "give af" about doing their jobs well. Your wit and rhetoric astonish and amaze. Oh, and I'll take that to go.
British movies are boring asf. British actors transfer over to playing american roles because then they get the big bucks. When you want to make it in show biz you don't go to Europe you go to Hollywood. All those British actors up there big break came from playing Americans. Except for the game of throne cast but hell the people who came up with the production are for the most part American and the people who created game of thrones are in fact I'll let you fill in the blanks. You wouldn't know who the hell those people were if they didn't run across those american roles. So back to my point why tf would I want to play a British role there's not enough money in it. Maybe just maybe that's why we haven't had any emergences of great American actors playing British roles because at the end of the day money talks and BS walks!! And then you act like american actors are some mediocre bunch like what are you saying now your discounting american actors!!?? Shouts out to my boy Harrison Ford, Mark Wahlberg, Samuel Jackson, some of THE highest paid actors in the world just to name a few. N o look they are American born and bread. And no you cant have this to go!! Sit your ass down at this table and finish your meal....
+Kenneth Denson Not only British actors, but British bands... they are light years ahead of the US music scene, and they don't have to go to the States to prove it.
Actually, we have less rainfall in cm annually than most of western Europe. This is because we have less showers, instead we have a lot of "drizzly" days
that might be true, but that is still a lot of grey miserable drizzly days... you can't really compare the uk with somewhere like southern california for example, or the med. comparatively speaking, they have great weather, we have shit weather.
When people ask the questions like what do u think of americans I hate it when they say stupid!!! Since I am Filipino american yes Filipino parents born in America I am smart in things! Some pure Americans at me school are smart and straight A's! But also if I were to choose America or the UK like england, northern ireland , wales or Scotland I will still choose america! Why? Well in america there are states which also have stereotypes make America unique! Each state has it's own accent it's own personality! Its like a bunch of countries! And each person in each state make a person which is the state and the state is 1 person that there are 50 that make 1 giant happy loving family or person! :D
Would like to see this segment in a place where you'd have a better cross section of the population. Your American Stereotypes video was shot on the streets of London, so you could ask young and old, various educational backgrounds, etc. Why not do this on the streets of Chicago?
