I think George Martin was possibly the glue for the sound and evolution of The Beatles. Not only as a producer, but played on countless songs throughout their career. It’s still amazing that Eleanor Rigby is the only song which no Beatle played on, but the strings were phenomenal.

Oh, I so agree with you, Elvis! That string arrangement is so awesome!❤👌🤔🎧

There is no doubt that George Martin was more than a little responsible for the Beatles success. His influence on their music was huge and cannot be dismissed. Because none of the Beatles could write music, arrange complex instrumental accompaniment, or produce sessions they were heavily reliant on George Martin's guidance. There were many songs where George Martin's suggestions helped to make the songs better. From "Please Please Me" to "Yesterday" and "Eleanor Rigby" to the entire "Sgt. Pepper's" sessions George Martin's influence is there.

Another fantastic video, Michael! It's so very true that the Beatles were surrounded by talented people. Each of them, in their own way, contributed to the overall success of The Beatles. As you point out, they paved the way not just for the Beatles but for other rock bands that followed. The Beatles team were innovators. They basically invented the idea of music videos, arena rock, the concept album, musicians having their own record label, putting lyrics on an album, and so much more.

Tony Barrow, "Tone", never gets the credit he deserves as their publicist. He was pretty much the guy who sold The Beatles to the media. He coined the term "Beatlemania " despite many others taking credit. He was responsible for the liner notes on the early LPs. He organized and orchestrated all of the now famous press conferences. He wrote a good book documenting all of this early side of their career. It's a must read. It shows how the early development of the Beatle organization happened. It's called "John, Paul, George, Ringo and ME".

In case you doubt my opening prophecy [That the beatles will be talked about with respect in the middle of 1973] you should know that Messers Lennon and McCartney have written enough songs to keep them in singles and albumbs from now until 1973, even if their composing talent were to wither and die in the immediate future."

Great Video. There's just one inconsistency I picked up on. At about 9:20 you are talking about George Martin's reaction on the day that he first met the Beatles "...they had this qurky kind of atitude tha just seemed to manifest itself when all four of these guys got together"... but at that time they were not "the four", as Pete Best was still in the band. You could even go as far as to say that the reservations that GM had about Pete Best on that day that led to him being replaced.

Thanks Michael. I have recently watched a rare Deep Purple live video. In my opinion, Ritchie Blackmore is at least as good as Page. He's not nearly as bluesy, but his speed and dexterity are amazing. I gladly agree that Jon Bonham was an incredible drummer but I think that Ian Pace was better. His single bass drum was just as fast and he played it with even more power. Robert Plant was a great singer but he couldn't come close to the notes that Ian Gillian reaches. Especially in "Sweet Child in Time". Zep didn't have a full time keyboardist but they could never have topped Jon Lord' (rip). I will always feel that he was the greatest Rock Keyboard player. As for Bassists It's difficult to hear either of them on recordings. But, in the end. Nobody can hold a flicker of a candle to The Beatles. I'm 68 years young and I've loved them with all of my might ever since Feb. 9, 1963. My life changed that day and I never tire of seeing LIVE video of them or official or Bootleg recordings of them. I'm one guy who was convinced of this a long time ago.

@richardweed9727
@richardweed9727 Год назад
@@goplad1 ahah!! You are way too funny. You don't really know so much about musical technical ability. Ringo was one of the very best drummers in the history of rock/ pop; you wouldn't grasp that because you have no idea what you're running your mouth about. Go watch some videos about Ringo by Rick Beato, SyedRewind or Otis Gibbs (just for a few brilliant and storied musicians - who are obviously about 500x more knowledgeable than you). I know a ton about music but don't profess to know things that others know MUCH, MUCH more about, and I've watched at least a dozen videos where musical giants have said that Ringo is THE most under-rated drummer ever, and that he did things that many of the greatest could NOT do. They are still blown away, amazed and dumbfounded as to how he did many things. Most people have no idea how his stylings, fills and many other 'tricks' were incredibly genius. I'm not saying he's in the top 10 or even 20, but that is the absolute best ever. You are ludicrously trying your best to say that he is only ok. This makes it too obvious that you know nothing, you are full of it. Countless?? x2?? BS x2.
@goplad1
@goplad1 Год назад
@@richardweed9727 Ah yes. A Ringo fanatic. Blindly convinces himself that Ringo is a virtuoso drummer, king of the drum kit. What a laugh. As I stated Ringo is a good serviceable drummer who kept good time for the Beatles, with occasional flair, and always dependable. However he was not a great drummer in technical terms. In fact he was very limited in his abilities. Just ask Quincy Jones who had Ringo on a jazz session. Ringo couldn't keep up and his drum track wasn't used. George Harrison once said that Ringo never practiced. He showed up to the studio, did his job, and off he went. Ringo never ascended beyond his innate abilities. He was the same on "Love Me Do" as he was on Abbey Road. As I said, steady. To suggest Ringo is anything more than a good drummer is hyperbole and just plain ridiculous. Can you honestly say he belongs in the pantheon of great drummers? Earl Palmer? Hal Blaine? Buddy Rich? John Bonham? Ringo couldn't cart their drum kits. So just stop with the Ringo worship. It's absurd.
@robertfmorton
@robertfmorton Год назад
At the time, none of the Beatles were virtuoso musicians. But they were a tight unit, except for Pete Best. It's not the Best was a bad drummer but that his drumming didn't fit the group style. Sadly, neither did Best's personality fit with the rest of the members. Happens a lot on life. However separately, George Martin had concerns about Best's ability to keep time. Back at the ranch, the band wanted Best out and replaced by Starr who was a long standing and popular drummer on the Liverpool music scene. Starr was currently drumming with one of THE most popular bands on Merseyside and even had a solo spot in their set, known as the Starr spot. The three Beatles were friendly with and had already played with Starr who's drumming style AND personality fit into the band much better than that of Pete Best. So, it's simply not true that any other drummer could have become the successful Beatles drummer because in terms of both musicianship (as has become blatantly evident) AND personality, Starr fit the bill perfectly.

Mark Lewisohn's research identified documents that prove the Beatles were going to be signed regardless of what George Martin thought because music publishers wanted to secure the songwriting due to their being impressed by McCartney's Love of the Loved (I think, maybe it was Like Dreamers Do). The story that George Martin had a say in the matter is a popular fiction that's been repeated for 60 years now.

While I would agree that the Beatles ruled the world of music I would have to argue against them ruling the world. Beatlemaniac baby boomers love to say the Beatles changed the world in every aspect but clearly they did not. That is hyperbolic. The world is an ever changing place and it takes many elements to make change. Yes the Beatles had influence on the youth of the world and certainly when it came to music they were influential. I've always seen the Beatles as a catalyst for many cultural things but beyond that society was changing due to many occurrences on the world stage.
