Cologne's Cathedral is working on making Notre Dame complete again. With extreme precautions, glass windows of the French Cathedral were delivered to the experts of Cologne Cathedral. Four windows need more than just simple restoring. They need experts with specific talent. We visit them and checked how it is done - from removing toxic dust to replacing surprising and questionable material choices.

Just to set up the Documentation process is a process itself. Best wishes on their success of restoration.

It's heartening to see such care and expertise going into rebuilding the cathedral, even the details like these beautiful windows are being restored masterfully. It really warms my heart to see, thank you for posting this! 🥰 I hope someday to see Notre Dame myself.

Nothing is worse than a RUSH job with a deadline so close, thats when corners get cut and shortcuts taken, its far better to take another year and do everything RIGHT instead of RUSHING it all!

I don't have a problem with the old plexiglass repair pieces, if they are still in decent condition. They add an element of their time to the accumulated evolution of the work. The fact that it seems unthinkable now makes its use a statement of an era.

0:40 Don't worry! Cologne Cathedral can't burn down as its roof truss is made from steel, not wood. In fact, it was the first big steel structure a few years before the Eiffel Tower. Tbh, I find it reckless to rebuild Notre Dame with a wooden truss again.

The original wooden roof structure held up for eight hundred years...

@@dweuromaxx That was pure luck! Many cathedrals have burned down several times.

@@hape3862 Yes, like the cathedral in Cologne which burned in 1248 - which is why the current cathedral was built. 🙄

The steel truss saved the Cathedral from the bombs in WWII. It suffered only minor damage and couldn't burn down.

Yeah, the French have some much greater cathedrals as well. Amiens, Reims, Tour or even Rouen. I never understood the hype aroundthe one in Paris.

It was one of the first real Gothic Cathedrals and is aesthetically very pleasing in architecture (matching towers, fully completed layout, etc.).

@@suchendnachwahrheit9143 I did not intend to state any appreciation about one or the other 🙂 I was just answering to your question : why Notre Dame is so famous. Because it was the first gothic cathedral with such proportions (Saint Denis is the first ever gothic cathedral, but smaller). Reims is indeed very beautiful, no doubt !

Yes, the Germans toured all over Europe and made more than one mess. Perhaps they’ll do Coventry. The Brit’s really screwed up there with their try at restoring the cathedrals windows.
