Caesar also knew deep down the Colonel was right. And unlike the other apes, Caesar never necessarily wanted humanity to go extinct or become primitive, so the idea of humans being reduced to animals made him slightly sad. After all, humans raised him and taught him everything he knew.
@@deloreandmc88(spoilers in case you haven't seen the most recent film) Even if Caesar ultimately said that Will (James Franco) was just "a good man" when asked by Malcolm in the 2nd movie, he was still undeniably his father/parent for those first 8 years of his life. In fact, he was such a significant figure to Caesar that even Raka, the "last" living descendant of the Apes that followed Caesar 300 years prior, tells Noa that one of the reasons Caesar wished for Apes to foster compassion & empathy for humans was primarily derived from the fact that he was "reared" by a human. Caesar never wanted to (or intended) to outright "replace" humans. Regardless of the law of nature, his only desire was to achieve a state of balance and stability with his tribe/family in a manner that would've allowed them to co-exist peacefully with humans. But...people are stubborn, often find themselves threatened by any kind of sentience that doesn't originate from "humanity", and like Mae in Kingdom -- they refuse to acknowledge that the world belongs to all that inhabit it, and insist that anything meaningful belongs to them or whatever technology/architecture they've built is indefinitely "theirs". I'm not trying to bash on "my own species", but these movies are absolutely stellar because they highlight humankind's hubris and use it to exacerbate the plot of how we literally caused this outcome, no matter how whimsical or absurd it may seem.
Actually, they don't really need to follow the entire continuity of the original film. These are not prequels to the 1968 film, they're a rebooted narrative. Meaning they could retell the events of the original as a direct sequel where only 400 years have passed as opposed to thousands.
Yup, on top of the fact that it was Koba's testing of z113 in Rise of planet of the apes that infected dude that didn't have his mask on which started the virus that eventually caused humanities downfall
He was literally 100% right, watching that movie was hard for me because I literally agreed with him 100% even if I obviously liked Caesar as he’s our protagonist we have emotional investment in
I think that that's the point, we are preciselly meant to feel that way, of course as an audience, we're gonna want ceasar and his friends to be the ones who thrives and succed, but as humans, we're bound to be able to put ourselves in the shoes of the Colonel's character for a sec, and consider his process of thought, or at the very least take it into consideration in the back of our mind. That's what makes it a beautiful saga to watch imho, these movies are litteral gems of writing.
It's much like the anti-\/\/height propaganda that we're constantly fed today: Those of us who want to preserve and better our own people are portrayed as evil.
@@ucnguyenanh9414agree. The movies after them prove their points. “War” proved Koba’s point that if Caesar had felt as much pain as Koba had at the hands of a human, he’d be just as furious and vengeful (which he was for the majority of “War”.) And “Kingdom” is proving the Colonel right by intelligent Apes now becoming the dominant species of the planet.
Watching War, you obviously root for Caesar and the apes since they are shown to be compassionate, intelligent, and relatively peaceful beings, however you totally understand the antagonist, the Colonel. If the Apes had time to grow in number and build, humanity would be overtaken. You are left wondering who to root for, the main character, or your own race. Of course, if it were real we'd be choosing our own race, but still, amazing movie.
In terms of humanity the Colonel was wrong. The rest of the military he was then fighting was right. There was no stoping the verbal language taking virus, so killing infected human beings was just plain wrong. What humanity needed to do was use their existing resources to adapt to the virus (such as mass learning sign language). Instead the Colonel forced the last of the military to be destroyed. The Colonel’s speeches were self fulfilling prophecies.
"This is a Holy war. All of human history has led to this moment. If we lose, we'll be the last of our kind. It will be a planet... of apes... & we will become your cattle." Edit: Thanks for the likes ! 😌
“It is necessary that I should die for my people, but my spirit will rise from the grave and the whole world will know I was right” My bad, we’re talking about the film 😂
Although when you think about. Humans are apes too. So it was already a planet of the apes to begin with. So it has always been a war between... apes lol.
There is something missing. From all humanity, five continents, only some people form the US would have survived? Ceasars gang were less than a thousand apes based around SF. They couldnt even take over 1 US state. Even after 300 years, they seem to still be a medium size tribe in a region of north california. What about the other regions of the US? What about other countries? Russians, for example, are tought people, they could trhived. There arent many apes in russia, for example. What about people from island places, like japan or ireland or new zeland? What about south america? Considering that only big apes like chimps, gorilas and orangotangos would become smart and if they had contact with humana, the world population of big apes is around 1 million. Maybe only 20/30% of them are in contact with human. Most of them are the jungle. So probably only these population got smart.
no matter how realistic and entertaining the film is, it teaches us a lesson that we should never play with nature and defy it, since humans cannot defeat nature
@@conorcrawford8311 we can't stop tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, we can't know everything about this planet and we don't know what's out there somewhere far away
His methods were not extreme. Or reasonable. If they were either and he actually acted on his belief, he would have lined his soldiers up and done a mass execution of the apes. Instead, he used them for building a wall that serves nearly no purpose in a modern war.
If they so wanted, they could have the next movie retell the events of original movie but within the context of only 400 years have passed as opposed to 2 or 3 thousands years, and even make some changes so it's not a complete retelling. Something people tend to forget is that these are not prequels, they're part of a rebooted narrative so they don't have to be held to the continuity of the original film.
What a fantastic series of movies. I can't help but feel they are somewhat underrated. Not in reviews, from critics or viewers (rightfully positively reviewed) but the overall movie audiance. Don't seem to hear much about them, i get a sense they are somewhat overlooked.
He also mentioned how if Ceasar's son was meant to rule his holy "Kingdom' he is glad he killed his family. 300 years later movie is called Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
What i love about this trilogy is that all the « bad humains » all want humanity to be save and i think that’s beautiful in this movies there is not bad or good people but species that fight for there existence and that’s why there are great movies and stories
Fact of the matter is we have no damn reason to keep fighting. The cause of the later conflicts all stem from a cycle of hatred, fear and trauma that neither side can learn to move past in the end. Be it Koba, the Colonel or Mei.
In the original continuity it was a gorilla named Aldo who lead the great Ape uprising when he publicly said "No". Though even within the original series when they went back in time, this is retconned within the narrative with Caesar leading the uprising. Though instead of him first openly saying "No" against oppression, the first ape to publicly speak "No" is Caesar's wife Lisa, who says so as a plea for Caesar to not turn into a monster like the humans. This franchise has always had a super deep relationship with the cycle of time
I think what I find most interesting about the Colonel is that he didn’t necessarily hate the apes, but he certainly didn’t pity them either. He was just someone who stuck to the mission and didn’t get emotional over things. He knew the apes were the result of the arrogance of man, and was just trying to rectify it. He was a ruthless, merciless, and extremely cruel human being. So cruel in fact, that Caesar was more human than he was morally and even called him out on it. But he was loyal to his overall objective which was to save humanity. The scariest part about him I think was that deep down we all knew that he was right. The world was in a desperate state and as a result created someone who was to be the tool to balance it. Someone without morals, someone without personal ties, someone who sticks to the mission no matter what. He’s like a machine that has been programmed to accomplish a task by any means necessary. And it’s why nearly everyone became his enemy in the end. He didn’t care what people thought of him or if they hated him. He just cared about the results of his actions. Overall a very simple yet interesting villain!
The human race will self delete itself and the entire world with nukes or triggering super volcanoes. Our egos are just too big to understand we're part of nature.
The Colonel reminds me a lot of Thanos in a way. Both were individuals that truly believed in their mission. Both saw what they were doing as righteous and for the good of all. Both believed in their cause so much, they murdered their own children to see it fulfilled.
We root for the good guys(the apes) but if we were in the movie we would have joined the cornel. As much as I hate to say it, he was right, he was just trying to save humanity
If Colonel would have been able to see what the future looks like, he would have been flipped Colonel: You gotta be fucking kidding me! Ape society, Ape ruler and even a fucking kingdom!
That’s due to humans need and greed to dominate based on a false “theory” of evolution and putting ourselves above all other lifeforms which is inherently out of sync with nature
Why can't we co-exist with apes. One sentient being living harmoniously with another. You seen that with lord of the ring, star trek, star war and even with human history
Its impossible, people are already pos’s to other people that look different, and those people are still human. Imagine if it was other species? The amount of animosity from both sides would be insane
@@mrxzie1273The only reason its not the case now is cause we dont have another species equal to us on this planet. Its safe to say this is all fair game, Though humans wanting to see it as an US or THEM situation in context of the virus killing humans and benefitting apes, and the still remembered loss of human civilization where apes now have grown and thrived is probably an existential crisis.
@@kennethsatria6607 Yup All I know is this is purely logical and very realistic. Imagine how happy the US would be if there would be a species almost if not equal to us. They would be using all their crazy gun power , nuclear power etc to destroy them. Not only the US though , russia , NAVO… Luckily this is all fiction and there will never be anything superior atleast on this planet. Only thing that can genuinely drive us out are viruses where we can’t find a cure from.
I wish noah turn more like ceaser ... Because ceaser is like damm smart, strong and had the mentality, ceaser had the aura of leader... Noah is not that strong and he donst have the mentality he's just smart... I wish noah would be a more evolved ceaser ...because if theres a war against humans, he is not gonna win the way hr is now... And i dont wanna see he win the war( if there is one )just because he is the protagonist
@@logicman4837 yeah i'm HOLPING that noah grow as a caracther and PROTAGONIST in the next movie ... And not just as the "next" ceaser but also as a "better" version of ceaser if u know what i mean ... But the movie make look like he is gonna go to a diferent path than ceaser, as he fix the eletric stick ... I think hes gonna be more of a leader that evolve/fix the tec for the apes in the war against humans ( if the war is realy gonna hapen ) ... But lets see what the director and writes decide
@@anitabonghit7606in the first planet of the apes movie (the reboot not the 1968 one) there were some astronauts that went to mars, they might do something with that it the next movie
How the apes apes fight against sophisticated humans resembling half-human Terminators from another universe, the future of 2599, the invasion of earth
Yk something always annoys me about these posts where they’re like “What the colonel said came tru” of course it did! We’re watching a prequel called “Planet of the apes” what were u expecting chihuahuas?
something i noticed was that by rise of the planet of the apes there were scenes that signify humans have made it to mars, in the original movies they land on earth in the first movie
I feel like instead of trying to regain dominance of the planet and continued practicing their human attributes things would have been different. The only thing that really went away was the speaking part
If I remember correctly they say in the movie that they don’t just lose their voice but they also lost their intelligence and regressed mentally to a more primal state
@@lucascasaletta-holmes3993 I think some of their intelligence stayed. In the OG POTA, Nova recognized Taylor’s name. And the War, little girl Nova was aware and knew what was going on and how to help. So not all of their intelligence went away.
That's optimistic. Generally there can only be 1 spot at the top of the food chain. Anything below that top spot can only hope to be a pet at the very best
@@thejuniors5345How? Humans were already losing the ability to speak 300 years prior and this virus was shown to be extremely contagious. The colonel caught it just by touching a doll.
Exactly. U get it. I’m kind of worried about humanity based on the comments from the rest of the people because although this is planet of the apes it’s like avatar, Naa’vi = Apes = indigenous peoples
Well simply put, humans haven’t been replaced or extinct, they simply swapped places with other apes. The colonel thought humans would literally be replaced by chimps
He’s talking about humans losing thier power iE thier iron grip and control of the world and history. Apes can be seen as indigenous people which historically speaking have been way better stewards of the earth and more in tune with nature, didn’t go around destroying nature for profit but we don’t dare let them gain control again out of fear of losing our place and everything we built which really is all bs
@@makeshift307No, the Colonel said the virus would destroy humanity, but in his own words "Not by killing us, but by robbing us of those things that make us human" so essentially humanity would regress to a primitive state and become wild animals while the apes become what we used to be. The colonel knew humans would still exist, but again he said "We will become your cattle" which does eventually end up happening.
I am still at a loss how a satelite dish array that did not have a reflective surface was able to work and turn after 300 years, let alone connect to satellites that would’ve de-orbited themselves when there was no one to control the trajectory. Don’t get me started on the damn telescope. How is the lens clean after 300 years? How does the turning mechanism still work? It’s made of steel and aluminum, which will start to rust and degrade in environments with low humidity.
Well when he said that apes were getting smarter and humans were getting wiped out by an incurable unavoidable regressive disease, so you don't have to be Nostradamus to guess how it was gonna go down.
So are we just going to forget about the astronauts trapped in space during the pandemic in the first movie? In the originals we know what happens to them
I mean the characters that survive it in the end are the most hateful ones I suppose. But obviously this guy is blatantly the worst example of human pride and agression seeing the apes as an enemy to be conquered and humiliated before they are exterminated. This is not a rational human being. The girl in Kingdom might have also been raised under a similar mentality. Its chilling commentary of human nature and our choice to hold grudges over things beyond individual memory.
Meanwhile miles away at my reservation...We are wondering what's going on out there because like mainstream America even the apes and simian flu forgot about us.😂
