HOW THE CORONAVIRUS RUINED MY SEMESTER AT SEA 

Hey y'all! Let me just start off by saying how HAPPY I am that RU-vid put my comments back!! I am seeing a lot of repeat comments, so I thought I would address it here. In the Semester at Sea Contract, we signed, as long as we finish our academic classes, their obligations are fulfilled and we are not eligible for a program refund. We are finishing our classes online, so, therefore, we will not be receiving a program refind. However, Semester at Sea decided to provide each student with a prorated refund for room & board, food, and fuel consumption that was lost within the last month, so we are getting a little bit of money back. Also, it is so sad, yet so comforting to read that everyone is experiencing tremendous disappointments with this awful virus. Like I said in the video, I am praying for y'all & I sympathize with each & every one of your situations! Just know we are in this together & we are going to get through it! Sending all my love

You can tell she’s really sad about not being able to experience the rest of the world but at the same time she’s so grateful for what she did get to experience. I hope you gain more subscribers and you get to go to a semester at sea in the spring again.

Take the time to grieve. Your feelings are valid. Your sadness doesn’t take away from anything else going on in the world. Isolation will give up sometime to decompress and reflect.

You're allowed to be upset about your trip being ruined Gracie! Even though there are people experiencing worse as you said, your lost trip matters too and was important to you and you don't have to feel bad for being upset about that. it's perfectly valid

So sad. So many things are getting canceled because the virus the rest of my volleyball season is canceled. I hope we can try to get everyone healthy though. Also I love your Videos Gracie ( :

When I heard how serious Covid-19 was all around the world, I instantly remembered about your SAS experience. I prayed and hoped that everyone on the ship was safe, and I was sad to realize that it would most likely get cancelled because I genuinely enjoy your videos. SAS is something I’ve always wanted to experience but I probably won’t. I just want to say thank you for bringing so many interesting videos for us to watch, and I hope you can experience this again soon!

I so hope that they are able to help accommodate you and your wishes to go back and do SAS another time. I am off work until April 19 thankfully paid but we will see how it evolves.

I'm so sorry gracie! There's so much crazy stuff going on right now. The entire east coast of Australia is basically in lockdown and my first semester of my freshman year of college is bust but after seeing this and hearing other people's stories, I guess i should be thankful that i'm not suffering too much and my friends and family are healthy! It's like i said to my cousin: You have every right to greive. You're not selfish for missing what you've never experienced, and if you want to lie on your bed listening to Ribs by Lorde on repeat, do it. You're allowed to be upset, and you're not alone.

My heart goes out to you. I can’t imagine the heart break you must be feeling. At least you were still able to make amazing memories!

I'm so sorry! I literally know exactly how you are feeling! I was studying abroad in Zambia and our time got cut short too. It's hard with not knowing exactly what is going on due to lack of wifi/not being at home. Just remember all the amazing times you had and try not to think about how your time got cut short. You aren't alone in what you're feeling because me and I'm sure many others feel the same way.

I feel your heartbreak. I was doing the Disney college program this semester and it had been a lifelong dream for me to be able to participate in it so when I was told I had to go home I was completely shattered. But I’m glad you’re staying safe and doing your part to keep you and everyone else safe

girl i am so sorry this happened! my spring break trip to new york with my theatre class got cancelled a day before the flight (and we still havent received refunds), my prom got cancelled, my high school graduation got cancelled (rip class of 2020), and i have online classes for the rest of the academic year. i also cant even work because the last time i got sick with a simple cold, my asthma got so bad that i had to start using a daily inhaler again. i feel u so much and im sorry again bc this really sucks. what matters is that we quarantine and get this virus under control asap to protect everyone, especially high risk ppl. i hope u get another opportunity to experience this trip again!

I’m glad you addressed that this is a serious situation as it does suck that your trip got cut short but so many people are in such less privileged situations and being impacted by this. Roll Tide Gracie! Here’s to praying for the whole world to get passed this quickly.

I just wanted to say I know exactly what you're going through. I was doing a semester studying in the UK with 18 students in my business class. We also got sent home to Canada, as ordered by our Prime Minister. I am missing out on trips I had booked to Portugal, Germany, Czech Republic and Iceland. We went from having 6 weeks left, to 8 days to 2 days to pack everything and flee, all in the span of 48 hours. I understand every emotion you are feeling and this video honestly helped me process some emotions and give me comfort I am not alone in my situation!

Sorry to hear about your trip however I’m glad you understand the magnitude of what’s really going on. Stay healthy, stay at home and take all the necessary precautions and hopefully you will be able to finish your voyage around the world someday soon. I appreciate you sharing your life travels, triumphs and challenges with the rest of us and wish only the best for you.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this, girl. I’m in kinda a similar situation. I started an amazing job that I loved in January, as a substitute teacher for a few daycares near me. I had one month of training, and only got to work for 11 shifts. And then, a couple days ago, they had to let me go. Along with the 1,200 other substitutes that work for this company around the country. I’m completely heartbroken, because not only is it my job but it’s a job that I LOVED! I’m so thankful for the opportunity that I had with it though, because I learned so much and discovered my passion for teaching. It just breaks my heart to see how this is affecting pretty much everyone around the whole world. 😔

Maybe next year you can get the complete semester. Love you, Gracie. :)

Im so sad to hear about this. I loved watching your videos while you were at semester at Sea. I do want to let you know that I have been praying for your and your classmates safety. Sadly I still have to go to work bc we're considered an essential. I hope that you enjoy yourself being back at home and good luck in this months to come. Hopefully everything will go back to normal in a few months bc personally im getting tired of it. But im glad to see that you are back at home safe and sound! Love you girl!

Gracie I’m soo sorry!! That’s is terrible. I feel your pain. I run track and the whole season is canceled and we worked so hard. So many people have been affected by this and I was thinking about your SAS and I saw this video and it truly made me very heartbroken for all of the people that have been affected by this. You got really close with Sydney (it seems like it) and now you have to say goodbye and that seems terrible. What also is so sad about this is no one was expecting this. 2 weeks ago I was clueless that schools and so much would be shut down. I am truly soo sorry!!!

Gracie I have loved following along with your semester at sea. I’m sure it has been an experience that has changed your life forever!! I just wanted to say. ... those of us here in Florida, USA are very well aware of the Pandemic we have on our hands. I know it must be hard to cut your trip short but know that semesters for college kids everywhere have ended abruptly. Seniors are leaving the final years of high school and college with tremendous sadness and disappointment too. So 1) know you’re not alone and 2) you may have been out of touch but please remember .... we’ve all been right here living through it while you’ve been bungee jumping and skydiving in South Africa. My two college age nieces have just been diagnosed. Please pray for them. Hope you get home safely and that you find your family safe and well.

ive always wanted to do semester at sea for as long as i can remember but never had to opportunity because of money. ive loved being able to watch your vids and live my fantasy through them. i am so sorry you cannot experience the rest of your voyage because of this horrible pandemic. stay safe and healthy

You are allowed to be sad that you’re missing out on something you were so excited for. Everyone is!! Grieve for as long as you need, your feelings are VALID. I’m sorry this pandemic messed it all up for you, that semester at sea sounds like a once in a lifetime thing.

I totally understand your devastation. I had just received a scholarship this year to live in Europe for a year to learn a new language and study + volunteer there, set to leave in September. However, now I'm not even sure if I'll be able to leave on time or ever get to experience this at all. It's been really devastating to think about, and I'm praying so hard for a miracle. Hey there! I just want to start off by saying I am so sorry this semester was completely uprooted and changed. I am a fellow SASer, fall 2018, and I was following your voyage all semester tracking what was going on and I feel so bad for all of you. I know how painful it must feel. However, I also know that even having only gone to a few places and only getting 2 months on the ship you all have changed so much. Some of my greatest moments came from my time on the ship (yes in country was great) but on ship time was where I made the real connections. Stay close with those friends (have skype/zoom hangouts together and when this is over try and meet up), share your memories with others (even if it seems like they don't care, its good to talk about the voyage and not keep it all bottled up, I made that mistake) Coming home from SAS under normal circumstances was extremely hard, I can imagine coming home for you and the rest of spring 2020 was harder since you all got thrown into this craziness. The SAS community is here for all of you the saying used on my voyage (not sure if it was on yours) "SASers lookout for SASers" holds true. You are all so much wiser and stronger for taking this journey in stride and positivity.

i am so sorry that this happened. i had a two week exchange trip to france planned for this month that i have been waiting for since my freshman year (i’m a junior now) and after 4 days in paris we were rushed home. it was very scary being so far from home in the midst of this all, as i’m sure you know. so glad you are home safe!

So glad your comments are back! I’m also so sad this was cut short for you, your excitement and getting to see everything with you was amazing, but it’s so hard to see you lose this. semester at sea has been a dream of mine since i was a little kid. at least 7 or 8 years old. i’m now a sophomore in high school, and i’m really hoping to be able to do a semester at sea once while i’m in college. when you have time, or you are comfortable with talking about it, you should do a q&a video! some questions : 1. since you apply, does your sat and everything matter? if it does, what were yours? 2. how long did the application process take? 3. do you have to be majoring in a specific thing to be able to go? 4. do you know if any large(known) colleges that don’t allow it?

i would be so heartbroken if this happened to me :( i hope everything works out for another semester at sea !

I was honestly in tears watching this and seeing how sad you are to have had to leave something you loved so much. Coming from someone who has wanted to do SAS my whole life (and hopefully will be able to before I graduate), I am so sorry that you didn't get the full experience you expected this semester. Sorry you had to go through this. I know, it really hurts. I had a study abroad this summer to go to Germany, Poland, and Ukraine. Of course that got cancelled and now I know how you feel. This was my last chance to study abroad and its been taken away. I hope you're able to go on the voyage again!

I’m a junior and got sent home from Italy after only 7 weeks abroad! I was and still an absolutely crushed. for me the worst part is that I will never get a chance to do it again since I’ll be a senior this year. I hope you get another chance next year!!
