It's ironic how they grounded the Concorde instead of the. DC-10 which has crashed more times and caused this crash. That's why I call the DC-10 a death trap. Edit: Since I'm still getting notifications 3 years later. I know this isn't the only reason it was grounded. It was meant to be a joke.

When I was a kid in the 70s, there were two things that really stood alone as having a certain mystique and a super cool factor; the Twin Towers and the Concorde. It really sucks, to be blunt, that they are gone and that so many went down with them.

I feel bad for the passengers and crew, but especially the crew that did everything to try and get the plane under control and save everyone. RIP all 109 passengers and crew, and the 4 people in the hotel

A lot of inaccurate things people are saying in the comments. Heres what really happened. A piece of the engine cowling fell of a continental airlines DC10 as it went down the runway. When Concord later took off it ran over the metal piece causing the tire to pop and chunks of tire struck exposed wiring in the landing gear and also punctured the wings fuel tank causing a leak. sparks from the exposed wiring ignited the fuel causing the fire and bringing the plane down.

Imagine being on that plane looking forward to your trip and one minute you are relaxing and getting comfortable. The next minute the plane is about to crash and you only have moments before you are killed 😱😱😱

In the early '80s while playing softball on Sunday mornings along Long Island's south shore, my fellow players and I frequently got to see this magnificent plane making its descent into Kennedy Airport. It reminded me of an enormous pterodactyl.

I see a lot of comments on DC10 issues. Having flown a lot over 45 years and all kinds of planes I can tell you there is litter on runways often. One of the Concorde's issues was it had to be a lot lighter and thus not as able to take a hit from objects. One of its fears was birds and hail would have taken it down. Air plane safety is based on the total hours flown by a model and crashes with and without deaths to see what its real record is in the real world as flown. Safest is the DC3 with some still flying and have been for over 80 years.

Inaccurate view of available seats : That day, Concorde was fully loaded (100 passengers). Inaccurate view of the plane angle and trajectory at the moment of crash : In reality it was about 110° banking left + had more vertical speed than horizontal speed.

A lot of this is an oversimplification, watch John Hutchinson's Interview on the matter. Many mistakes and false assumptions were made that compounded to cause the disaster. Maybe later in the episode they clarify some things, but for starters, there was no engine fire, and the shutdown of the engine probably doomed the plane because it did not have the power to stay airborne from that moment.

I was flying from Greece to Sweden the day after. On our seats in the airplane there was newspapers that had the Concord-crash as the main news. My mate who is scared of flying did not really like to "read all about it".

Aftermath: Only 1 person survived the crash, which was someone staying at the hotel. Everyone else involved in the crash, including all 109 occupants on the plane and 4 people in the hotel were killed.

I loved Concordes. I didnt understand as a kid (I was just 11 in 2000) why they can't fly anymore. Until today I forget it. Thank you for this very sad video. I hope all the people on board are on some happier place now.

Perhaps someone could answer this question. Why did they ground Concord after this accident? The cause of this accident was not directly related to the airliner. The debris could have hit any commercial jet just right and caused this catastrophic event. Furthermore, many commercial airliners have crashed due to their own mechanical and/or pilot failures yet they are still in service.

DC-10, worst plane to ever take flight. Not only has it taken the lives of those on board, it has also taken the lives of those on other aircrafts

When the plane was just 25 feet off the ground, Gilles Jardinaud, the flight engineer, shut down the ailing number two engine. Both French and British pilots say it was another disastrous mistake, which breached all set procedures. The engine itself was not on fire, and as the tank emptied and the fire burnt itself out, it would probably have recovered. The fixed drill for shutting down an engine requires the crew to wait until the flight is stable at 400 feet, and to do so then only on a set of commands from the captain.

*Air France Flight 4590 was heading to New York JFK Airport from Paris Airport, at 3:20PM Air France 4590 requests takeoff from runway 26R, the Concorde engines goes on fire. Because, a Continental DC-10 was heading to Newark that took off from the same runway a piece from the fuselage ripped off on takeoff, soon as Air France 4590 known as AF4590 took off from Runway 26R, then at 3:26PM the plane engines on the Concorde exploded, the flight crashed at a hotel near the airport. Just when you were feeling good about the fact that this plane wasn't a DC-9 or a DC-10, it somehow makes an appearance in a Concorde crash. For those of you who don't know, a piece of a DC-9 popped the tire and caused the rubber to cause a fire. The DC series had the chance to be a truly great aeroplane, but faulty maintenance ruined it's record. You have to recognize that the DC series was essentially a lower cost alternative to a Boeing, and that most airlines using the DC series were poor and were more likely to cut costs of repairs when possible. RIP the DC series.

As sad as this was if I'm not mistaken I believe debris from a fight that landed before this aircraft took off ruptured the fuel tank. It was another plane that caused this accident not Concorde. Loads of planes are still flying after multiple accidents. What makes this any different to any other aircraft that crashes but still flys? Rest in peace to all those that perished.

Expensive, cramped and unpleasant. But the Formula 1 car of the skies. London to NY in under 3 hours. But plagued with faults and malfunctions for more than 2 decades. And this accident was one of the things that also sealed the deal that Concorde, as a business, was finished. 9000 dollars per ticket and at that time... Guess what you would have to pay today for a 3h ticket. No matter what airplane you can construct, that is capable of that speed or beyond, that is insane prices. I have a fictional Concorde crash that I’ve been working on for quite some time and would like to share it with you. British airways 7635. Passengers: 113. Crew: 5 Total: 118 people. First part. *THE CRASH* The British airways Concorde was newly introduced into the fleet and took its maiden flight January 21 1976. However on its 10th flight on February 12 1976. Things went tragically off course. The plane is taxiing to runway 27L at Heathrow airport. Captain Douglas Sween and F/O Fred Dublin check if the plane has enough fuel as it is a gas guzzler. The plane preps for takeoff and Captain sween lifts the jet into the air. 2 hours into the flight. An hour before they reach New York, the plane’s wing catches on fire (af4590 refrence) and both engines catch on fire, leaving passengers at the sight of Fire and land coming closer. Captain sween says “What’s happened?” F/O Fred Dublin states “we’ve lost engine 1 and 2.” Captain sween says in horror “it can’t be!” He notifies jfk tower about the situation and the ATC is terrified. “Cleared for runway 4L.” In a panicked voice. The plane follows a up down left up down right up pattern. A bit similar to jal 123 although that hasn’t happened yet. Passengers freak as the planes left side of aisle 24 blows off and causes rapid decompression. Passengers are told to wear their oxygen masks and seatbelts. However the pressure was very strong that day so seatbelts disconnected from seats and sucked passengers out. 2 were sucked out and killed at 30,000 feet. The captain began to descend the aircraft but then, the rapid speeds they were going at (Mach 2 at the max ) made the nose incapable for the speeds and it ripped off. The cockpits pedals were ripped and sucked out. The pressure felt like the captains were being pulled down and they tried to get their masks on but tragically F/O Fred Dublin is sucked out. Captain sween is terrified and the sight of it made him freeze. He forgot to wear his mask and unfortunately died in his seat. The supersonic jet went for a dive until it crashed into a road in New York near wtc. All 118 people died. And killed 9 people on the ground making the total 127. Second part. *INVESTIGATION* Investigators tried their utmost best to try and solve this horrific case that killed 127 people. They had checked gate 5 where the flight had been and checked top to bottom. They found nothing but a 1 foot piece of engine. Investigators start baffling this piece of metal and started to look into what may have happened. Some of them thought it was the piece of a previous Concorde that had been there and sucked the piece into the engine and made it loose control 2 hours into the flight. But that would’ve been impossible due because it would’ve already crashed during takeoff. They start thinking maybe the piece was from a plane passing on top of the airport and caused a malfunction in the planes engine but that would be impossible aswell due to the engine being covered by the wing. They later went with that the engine piece fell off due to the plane not being fixed that well properly after an engine strike incident by the pilots so the plane flew without the piece and eventually the pressure of air in the engine stopped it and caused an explosion in the engine. 3rd part. *GRIEF* The families of the victims had sued British airways about the loss of the victims on British airways 7635, they had to pay 1 million to the families of the victims and an extra 20 mill for damages of New York property, British airways couldn’t handle all the pressure being pushed onto them as after the crash lesser and lesser people started booking flights and were more interested in virgin atlantic. British airways eventually had to shut down buisness and file for bankruptcy leaving a few lot of people without flights and thousands or hundreds without jobs, the final flight was British airways 54. Which was a 747 that took off from gatwick and touched down in LaGuardia airport. End of Story. Keep in mind this is all fictional and made up. If I offend anyone I am truly sorry. - me

That’s why the DC-10 is criticized a lot. I remember there was an AA flight that crashed due to the poorly-made parts of the DC-10.
